2. Was their ever a war between the five Families dispute over drugs (sound familiar)? If so then who was against it? And who was going along with it? What sides were taken? 1. Masseria and Maranzano fought when Masseria declared himself to be capo di tutti cappi. He was opposed by families from Castellemmmare del Golfo in Sicily who had settled in the US. Masseria murdered an out-of-town Castellemmarese Don, then demanded a tribute from the Brooklyn Castellemmarese Don. He paid, then lost his nerve and fled, leaving Maranzano in charge. Maranzano got support from other Castellemmarese (notably Stefano Magaddino of Buffalo, Joe Bonanno's cousin), while Masseria reached for Capone for support. But Maranzano was smarter: he urged Masseria's supporters to defect to his side. He also flattered, cajoled and eventually tortured Charlie Luciano to betray his boss, Masseria, which resulted in Masseria's assassination and Maranzano's victory. 2. There was never a war among all Five Families over drugs, but there was plenty of conflict. Most notably: Vito Genovese called the famous 1957 Apalachin meeting for three reasons: 1) to have himself recognized as capo di tutti capi;; to have the group bless Carlo Gambino as Albert Anastasia's successor; and to approve trafficking in drugs. Bear in mind that Genovese had arranged for the (unsuccessful) assassination of Frank Costello, and the (successful) assassination of Anastasia, because they opposed drugs. After the meeting, Meyer Lansky and the exiled Charlie Luciano paid Nelson Cantellops, a Puerto Rican drug dealer, $100k to set up Genovese with a drug deal so good that he couldn't refuse it. Genovese was caught, convicted and died in the Federal pen in Atlanta.

I typically don't like when people do this, but: Tunbull, you are the man. You answered this question so quickly and thoroughly that there is nothing that I can add to it. Hell, I can't even disagree with anything, which is rare on this BB . I hate to be another one of the people that just posts Turnbull support messages on here, but I must admit, you are damn good, friend.
