It was the SS Normandie but...: The ship Normandie was sabotaged, and the US government thought that there were German spies who sabotaged the SS Normandie. Actually, the Anastasia-brothers did it. But the US government asked Luciano to protect the waterfronts. He did. It was save. But, it wasn't enough for the US government to let Luciano go. He olny got more priveliges.
Then, the allies were gonna invade Sicily. The US government asked Luciano for help again. He agreed. Luciano's underboss Vito Genovese, who was fled to Sicily because of a murder helped Luciano. It was he who gained the trust of the Sicilians bosses. Because the help of the Siciian mafioso it was no problem for the allies to succesfully take over Sicily. The allies were the mafioso very gratefull. They give them high political jobs. Per example, Don Calogero Vizzini became mayer of Villalba.
Because of helping the allies with the invading of Sicily, Luciano was released and deported to Italy.
Q: He was the man who betrayed Luciano, when he was on Cuba in 1946. He told it to the government. Luciano wasn't allowed to go outside Italy.

Vito Genovese. Q. What was the name of the Italian anarchist writer whom Genovese ordered Carmine Galante to assassinate, in order to ingratiate himself with Mussolini? (BTW: Many writers now believe that the French liner Normandie was accidentally set on fire by a careless workman, whose torch set fire to a bunch of burlap bags. But the US Navy commander of the Port of NY, Capt. "Red" Heffernan, believed it was due to "sabotage" by dockworkers of Italian and German ancestry. This story was picked up by Joseph (Socks) Lanza, boss of the waterfront, who told it to Meyer Lansky and Albert Anastasia. Lansky checked with Luciano, then made a deal with Murray Gurfein, special prosecutor Thomas Dewey's chief assistant. The deal was that Luciano would get better treatment in prison, and be released early, in return for his keeping "peace on the docks." The docks were peaceful, Luciano was transferred from Dannemora to Great Neck Prison, and was exiled in 1946.)

Turnbull...the flower shop owner was Dion O'Banion.
Restaurants always play a major role in "the life"...and often a bigger part in "the death."
Name the suburban restaurant where the driver of a former Chicago boss met his demise.
My first post on perhaps the best forum I've ever seen!

I was probably too vague. I was thinking of Chuckie English, Momo's driver, who was gunned down in the parking lot of Horwath's restaurant in suburban Elmwood Park.
Let's do another Chicago one, also in my neighborhood...I'll be more specific.
This guy survived a mob hit in a theater parking lot because the bullets used on the job didn't fire properly. Name the guy and, for an extra 2 points vig, name the movie theater!

A. Ken Eto outside the Montclare Theater.
Someone else step to the plate with a new question. Clearly I've brought the topic to a screeching halt!
