This was inspired the question from Vendetta. If they did make the much rumored GF4 with the plot of young Sonny and present-day Vincent if money was no concern who would you cast. It is a given that Andy Garcia would return as Vincent and Leo DiCaprio as young Sonny, but who would play:

Micheal, Tom, Fredo, Connie as twenysomethings and
Tessio, Brasi, Clemenza, Carmella and Vito as middle aged.

Why would DiCaprio be a "given" for Sonny? I'd prefer someone else...anyone else.

Michael Corleone- Matthew Broderick (Just watched "Glory" and Broderick is perfect for Michael)
Thomas Hagen- Ed Harris
Luca Brasi- The Big Show Paul Wight, perfect for this role.

Glory is a great movie, Broderick was excellent.

How old would Sonny and Tom be in the movie? I think Ed Harris may be a little too old to play the part. Especially since him and Sonny are around the same age. I'm still not too keen on Leo as Sonny, but maybe that's just me.

Ken Olin as Michael?

He has the mixture of cultured good looks, quiet intellect, with a hint of menace in his eyes....

If it an older Michael what about:
Richard Grieco aka Bugsy Seigel in "Mobsters" or
Jason Gedrick, he was excellent in Mario Puzo's
The Last Don I and II.

Just a reminder. The fourth movie flashbacks was suppose to be about young Sonny. He was the oldest son in the family which would make Mike and Connie like 10 year old! Even Fredo would be to small to be played by Edward Norton like someone said.

If they were in their 20s if would be sad to see all your favourite characters with different faces. Its not really a big difference between 20 and 25 as Michael was in the first film @ the wedding.

I think Pauly Shore should play Vito Corleone. He proved himself to be a phenomenal actor in Bio-Dome and this might be his chance for an Oscar (TM).

What's wrong with Bruno Kirby as Clemenza from GF2? Fredo Prinze COULD be good. Michael Sandler, this is not a F^CKING comedy! DeNiro OF COURSE!

Pesci maybe? Liotta, and Imperioli are good actors! Frank Vincent (Billy Bats, Goodfellas) could be good. Tony Soprano could be Luca brasi, MYABE!

Interesting idea for James Gandolfini for Luca, he could probably pull it off. Some of the other suggestions are good as well but a lot of the people suggested i think are too old. Think about it, one of the most important parts of Sonny's youth would be the war when he was 19, so michael would only be early to mid teens and hagen would also be around 19. I think it would be quite cunning to play tessio and clemenza from part II as this would prevent having so many actors playing the same characters.

i'll make another post with my suggestions when i have thought about it more.

If there was a part IV they could also show paulie rise, because in the book, it mentions that he was beginning to show promise, and had worked his way up through the ranks well.

In MY mind...

Paulie 'made his bones' after the war, when Sonny kicked the repairmen out and then Paulie and Clemenza drove the guys home, and Paulie killed one.

Paulie DID handle the Bonasera issue.

Paulie vs. Rocco would ahve been good, if Paulie had a chance
