I dont have a problem with Nortons acting abilitys, but Fredo has a very round face, and Norton's is very slender and rectangular.
I was taking to a friend the other day about the Avaitor and Decaprio and all that wonderful stuff, and again it came up that Decaprio wanted to play Sonny. I said that he has the personal force of.......not being able to think of anything I said...Fredo. Dont get me wrong, I'm not really for Decaprio being anywhere near GF4, but its another face on the board.
(Sorry its so small. Am looking for a better one)

I can see that round face similarity between DiCaprio and Cazale. However, Leo is known as a pretty boy and I just can't see anyone like him or Jude Law or even Edward Norton, to be taken seriously as the weak, less attractive brother.

Norton's characters, especially in Primal Fear and also 25th Hour (I haven't seen American History) arent' traditionaly hunky guys.

He definitely has a quirky, angular look, which I think would fit Fredo well.

ok here are a few possibilities:

Sonny - Dicaprio - dye job, jerri curl, best range to handle Caan
Affleck - dye job, jerri curl, diet, might be credible
Farrell - ""

Fredo - Ed Norton - think 25th hr. w/receeding hairline, perfect

Michael - Colin Farrell - but can he pull off one of Pacino's speeches

Don Corleone - Rober Deniro


Clemenza - Danny Devito
Harvet Keitel in a fat suit and makeup

Tessio - James Woods
John Malcovich

I have a hard time taking Leo seriously in anything he does. But with everything Ive seen of his, he doesnt have any sort of personal strenght that would be necessary to play Sonny.

Almost all reviews of LDC in The Aviator are very, very good.

Supposedly he is great as Howard Hughes. I suppose I could also see him as Fredo. But i can't see him as Sonny - he just doesn't have the physical presence Sonny has to have.

im a bit confused , how could they use al pacino as a sequel when he died in the end , there is no way unless they contradicted the ending of the film or went back into time . does anyone agree or am i being stupid

He died almost 20 years later than Mary, and as nothing was said about those years, they may do something with him helping Vinnie on the rise.
The best thing about GF4- no Mary.

well he's makin a weird face in that picture so I cant really tell, but if he shaved I can see a similarity in the shape of the face.
