Hey everyone, I have a question: Are the box sets worth it? I really want to buy them (despite the fact my parents keep saying "you're wasting your money" and "you don't need it"), and I can get the first and thrid seasons for $64.49...the second season I can get for probably $54.49...my job gives me a very generous discount on the sets so I think those prices are a steal. I called Electronics Boutique today to see how much their used sets are and the second season used box set was $69.99! Anyway, are they worth it? Thanks!

Hell yes, they are worth every penny. I have all three boxed sets, and they've provided endless hours of entertainment. And DVDs won't wear out.
Those prices you mentioned ARE a steal! I paid between 75 to 80 bucks for each of mine.

Well, I just bought season one for about 70 dollars (with tax)...I didn't start watching the show at the beginning but I really love it, so I'm gonna get through season one, then get season two, then get season three...I have a collection of Mafia movies (Goodfellas, The Godfather Collection, Pulp Fiction: 2-Disc Collector's Edition, Casino, and Scarface [which was EXTREMELY hard to find, since it is out-of-print...I ended up getting it off of E-Bay for like 44 dollars from a guy who lives near me in Newport Beach...it was sealed and had security tags on it, in addition to other telling factors that it was a LEGIT copy, not a fake ass piece of shit bootleg that is usually par for the course on E-Bay for Scarface]) and I think The Sopranos box sets are a perfect addition to my collection...plus I love mob shit, which is what most of us have in common! I look forward to getting season two because I wanted to see Big Pussy's death, but I want to watch it in chronological order, so I'll just have to wait. Anyway, the body count is pretty big in season one as it is, so that's a plus in itself. I was really torn between getting season one or season two first, but I made my choice...I'll have all three of them in no time anyway!

Congrats on a fine buy. Every boxed set of "The Sopranos" is worth the cost.

Yeah, they really are worth every penny...I've only watched the first episode so far but the DVDs are extremely well produced and have GREAT quality (it seems better than a lot of other DVDs...)! Anyway, I can't wait to buy the next season!

Well I'm done with the first disc on the first season DVD set and let me tell you: it was definitely worth it...in fact, I'm going to go buy the other seasons in a little bit...I just can't wait until I finish season one to buy season two!

Well, buying all of the seasons was one of the best investments I've made in a while...pure entertainment, and the DVDs are produced so well! What a great show.

Love mine, too, and wouldn't trade 'em for anything in the world...Okay, maybe I'd trade 'em for a night with Jenny McCarthy, but other than that... I do, however, wish they would've included more special features. The "featurettes" are so-so, but they could've done more interviews with the actors. The David Chase interview from season 1 is MAJOR Yawn-city. Of course, I'd already read most of the stuff he addressed before I saw it, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it. Anyway, another helpful special feature would've been subtitles. There are a few parts where I'd love to be able to comprehend what they're saying (even the Italian terms). Like when Tony is sprawled out drunk on the floor after getting the soccer coach arrested, he says something to Carmela that I can never get no matter how loud the volume or how many times I run it back! But, all in all, I love my boxed sets, for the episodes if nothing else.

Snake: A subtitle feature would have been a great addition...sometimes, no matter how many times I play it back, I can't understand what the fuck someone is saying...I don't know why subtitles weren't included...in all the mob movies I have I always watch them with subtitles because let's face it: some of the shit the guys say is hard as hell to understand!
Don Corpuzzi: I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the ease of finding Scarface in stores. You see, I work in a video store and since SO MANY people ask for it all the time it shows something: there is an extremely high demand for the film. Since it is out-of-print, it makes it even more of a collector's item. Now, I know someplace in California must still have a copy, but it would just be SO hard to find it. In fact, I challenge you to try and find it used or unused anywhere in the USA! I guarantee you won't find very many. Either way, thanks for the offer, I probably would have got it from you if I knew about these boards back then. How much would you have sold it for? It's obviously open right? Can I possibly see a picture of it? And by the way, A Bronx Tale is a great, great, great mob film, that I might purchase sometime in the future. It is at my store for $14.99 and I can get it for $9.99, so maybe I'll consider it!
To anyone: do any of you have The Sopranos Family History book? Is it any good? I saw some at B. Dalton Booksellers in the mall I work at for like $5.47 or something. That's down from $20...it looked like a good book...anybody care to write a review?

howardstern: I will agree with you that Scarface isn't the easiest DVD to find, it does pop up from time to time. One reason that it's out of print is that a special edition has been rumored for a while, and soon all of those DVDs that people have been paying top dollar for will be virtually worthless. My copy is open, of course, but I probably would have been willing to part with it for something like $30-35 (I bought it new for $27.99 at Best Buy). In my opinion, if a popular DVD (like Scarface) goes out of print, unless it's a Criterion DVD, then that means that they're going to make a newer, much better one.
I own the Sopranos book you are talking about. It's an okay book, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I wanted a little more insight about the making of the show and how it was created, but the book is made up to be like FBI files of the family. I also purchased a book a while back called The Psychology of The Sopranos, which is written by a psychiatrist and talks about the sessions with Melfi.

Well, I have the Special Sdition version of Scarface with the extras and everything but it has been rumored that they will be releasing another newer, better Special Edition in the future, but who knows when that will be. Also, what ever happened to its re-release in theaters? It never came out on the 27th of September!
So for $5.47 is The Sopranos Family History book worth it?
By the way, Don Corpuzzi, you do live quite close to me. I live in Lakewood and you live in Irvine...that's like 20 minutes away. We should get together and have a sit-down sometime.

True, the quality of Scarface could be better, especially for DVD. If you look at the Sopranos box set DVDs, the quality is AMAZING. That's the clearest I've seen on any DVD to date. One thing I did notice, however is something I have noticed a few times in movies and TV shows: If you look at "The Legend Of Tennessee Moltisanti", or, First Season, Episode Eight, I noticed an interesting little discrepancy. Right after Chris and Georgie dig up the body there is a scene with Dr. Melfi and her ex-husband Richard talking in a field. If you look closely towards the middle of the scene up until the end of the scene, it looks like a cheap Japanese Godzilla movie. What's up with the bad voice-lip synching? I have seen this happen from time to time in DVDs, TV shows, and movies...it is because the audio track is slightly off for a few seconds?
As for having a sit-down, wherever you want to meet! We should gather some other people from California to see if they want to meet as well.
Don Corpuzzi, how old are you? Do you go to school?

Well I'm almost done with season one of the box sets and I must say, the episode called "A Hit Is A Hit" was fucking hilarious. The height of hilarity was when Chris broke the guitar over the back of the lead singer of Another Day and then the producer comes up and goes "Where are the FUCKING choruses?!"!!! That shit had me busting a gut...also, when Hesh gave it to Massive Genius straight and goes "Look, Tatala..." that brought a smile to my face. Although I am an Athiest now (and my parents pretty much are too), they did raise me Jewish. My mom used to call me Tatala, and I thought it was very humorous when Hesh said it to Massive Genius. Anyway, like I said, The Sopranos does have some of the best writers in the world. I have seasons two and three waiting (I just couldn't wait until I was done with season one to get them), and I can't wait to watch them!

"A Hit Is A Hit" is not the funniest episode I've seen, I just thought that was a funny moment. Chris is such a loose cannon, I'm surprised he hasn't got whacked yet.
