I was wondering why the higher ups in the Soprano family seem to go around by themselves, without much worry of getting attacked.

In a lot of other mob movies, it seems like the important people in the families always have some kind of protection, like a bodyguard or travel in groups.

Is it because they generally stay on "safe turf"?

Or is it not a very accurate depiction of real gangsters?

My wife and I argue about this all the time.

Any opinions on the subject?
