You know, plaw... the "Great White Hope" theory in boxing...

Calvin Booth... you should really pick him plaw, he's really good! :p

He's a backup PF/C that the Sonics gave an extraordinarily large contract a few years back because he had a few decent games in a playoff series the year before.

This ain't gonna be a cakewalk for anyone! Look at Crab Cake sittin' at #3 ready to pounce!

Oh, yeah. That's McIlvaine. I think he was the subject of a movie a few years ago, "White Men Can't Jump"

Speaking of Crab Cakes, I wonder where she's been hiding...

Yeah, McIlvaine was in Seattle when he was making more than Shawn Kemp, who was still good. Remember how great everyone thought he was going to be? The guy was one of fav's to catch on Sportscenter. I'm starting to wonder if I should forget playing She-Mac or Paul Pierce for awhile. They haven't exactly lit it up so far. How about you guys, is there anyone you have had it with during the first couple of weeks?

Definitely McGrady. Anf I haven't been too thrilled with Rashard Lewis, either.

Yep, I agree with the both of you - TMac just isn't performing like he normally is. I don't have a particular complaint about any other player- maybe Jermaine O'Neal when I pick him. What I want to whine about is the seemingly easy task of picking a winning coach. It seems easy enough but I'll be surprised if I'm at .500 for the first two weeks picking winners.

it's easy to pick a winning coach if you choose picking a high-value one over some precious points for your player roster. in this start of season, there are a lot of surprises, so I'm not taking too much care about picking my coach. see that I picked Randy Ayers for the game against the Pacers...

TM 1018 109.7 083 (-26.7) 1101 097.9

Here's a question...

Obviously, if a guy is averaging 30 PPG, it's a lot more likely for him to have a night when he scores 10 than it is for him to have a night when he scores 50.

Since I've kept track of the +/- V. AVGs, we've had only 32 "trials" (4 days X 8 players) so the sample size may not be large enough.

But I'm wondering...Why have we had 24 instances where we scored lower than our V. Avg, and only 7 cases of scoring higher (one tie)?

That the cases in which we scored lower have much larger point swings is explained, I think, in the first paragraph above, but why so few cases of doing better than average, even if only by a little bit?

Even if you throw out the days when someone scored well below their V. Avg. because someone didn't play, I think after 32 trials we'd be much closer to 16-16 (even with wider downside swings, which I understand the reason for).

DB? Anyone?

Plaw, I think a few things can explain the dilemma:

- Although it may be a minor point, the coaching points are a factor. Your coach has to win to even keep up with the average. If he loses, you are already at least 2 - 4 points in the hole. Also, there's no such thing as a 10 point coach win to make up for a loss on a previous night.

- Like you said, I think the sample size is too small.

- In this game, it is a lot more likely for a person to score x points below his average than x points above his average. It's because, by nature of the game, we choose players who are hot at the time, meaning they are scoring as high as they can possibly score given their point value. Therefore, although the game actually calls it their average, a better description is that we are playing them given their ceiling. Who here thinks that Tyson Chandler's average is 25 points a game? If you agree with me, then it makes sense that players are more likely to score below their ceiling than above.

- As you mentioned, not only do injuries play a factor but also mid-game injuries (Tim Duncan) and players being thrown out of games (KG) affects our scoring as well.

I'm sure there are a lot more reasons.

The only things that I know for certain are:

1a) No matter how much a Coach wins, he loses if I pick him.
1b) Teams, too, when I load up on many of their players.
3) Lakers suck.

No wonder, I am not a great writer!

Today's young, what are you going to do with us?

Well, if there is time, there is hope.

Better to have good realtionships I guess.

Regardless, you're a baby (younger than 25). :p Though I'm impressed you looked up both terms in a dictionary. That's a good start!

I thought someone once said it's hard to get minus points in this game? It's bad enough when your kicker in football misses field goals. I can't keep up with this stuff. I might not play next year.
