Wow! Hurt me. Rub it in.

The way I sees it - you are an odds person ('odds', I didn't say 'odd' ) and what did we say...Las Vegas? What are the odds out of 365 days of the year, that we would be there at the same time? I always pay my debts and dinner(s) you will get them - unless you don't like my company  to which I will arrange for takeout :p .

I'd rather shell out the $$ for the Bellagio than to take on bb right now. I've got a pile of excuses. You don't want to hear them all

Boy, Buffy, if this is what he calls "buttering up" I think I'd prefer Parkay.

Borrrrring. I may not play next year. Seriously.
I agree Plaw. It's not nearly as fun as baseball or football.

I didn't particularly enjoy football, if the truth be told  . Once a week is not nearly enough fantasy action for me. Plus, that draft was absolute torture. That I cannot forgive.

But that I will play next year, if only to prove that I'm not as bad as I looked.

POOR, POOR Pee-Lawrence. So moody. Maybe we should buy him a book on how to make new friends and keep them.

Sure, you better butter LDV up, because she isn't going to take any of your crap. That is for sure.

I was going to play the 2nd half, but after this kind of PEE-talking I just don't know. Gee, you didn't see Geoff beating up on people when he ran the baseball thread!

Pee you better get those eyes checked, you seem to be rolling them a lot more these days. It could be that you are over tired and your sugar levels are so high. Cut down on the sweets and the carbs. The strain to stay on top is getting to you old boy!

Probably a lot lower that you think. If you go there three times a year, let's say, for three days at a time (jump in anywhere DB), and I go just once a year for four days (jump in anywhere, DB), then...

Each of the four days that I'm there could be one of the nine days that you're there (DB?). Out of 365 days a year, you're there about 1 out of 40, so the chance of my meeting you if I'm there only one day a year would be 1/40. But if I'm there four days a year, then the chances of our being there the same day is 4/40, or about 10%, or odds of 9 to 1 (DB?)

Something is off in your reasoning there, plaw, because going by your train of thought (which was mostly sound), if you're there for 40 days in a year, then the probability of meeting Buffy is 100%, which clearly can't be true.

I'll try to find where the glitch is.

Here's the way I would answer the question...

The probability on Buffy being in Las Vegas is like you said 1 out of 40.

The odds on plaw being in Vegas is 1 out of 90.

The odds on both of you being in Vegas at the same time for any particular day is

1/40 * 1/90 = 1 / 3600, which seems really small.

However, you can correct it by knowing that people usually go to Vegas on weekends. Out of 52 weekends in a year, let's say 48 are Vegas eligible weekends (correcting for the holidays, etc.)

Therefore, Buffy is in Vegas 3 out of 48 weekends (= 1/16). Plaw is in Vegas 1 out of 48 weekends. The probability that Buffy and Plaw are together at the same time is:

1/16 * 1/48 = 1/768

Note that I'm doing the probabilities as separate independent events. It makes a difference if we know one of the parties is in Vegas to begin with.

Your right. Here's the flaw I think:

My first day there has a 1/40 chance of being one of the 9 days that she's there already.

But, if she's not there, my second day there has only a 1/120 chance of being one of her first days there of one of her three trips.

And so on, or my third and fourth days there. So, 3/120 + 1/120 + 1/120 + 1/120, or 6/120, or 19-1.

I like that answer too. It's different from my answer because it presupposes that you are already in Vegas.

Oh you numbers guys.....

How about this?

I know plaw was planning a trip to Vegas on the next holiday - don't know if that is still on. I can bet odds that if it had been HIM that owed ME, I might've have made the trip.

YOU can bet odds that I will be in Vegas the weekend of March 26. How is THAT for exact?

aw, plaw - you can't make it? What a shame! :p

You know when you guys do statistics like that I go - at least your poems/haikus keep me awake!

But what do I know? I have no business being in this thread, although I AM more charming than FS :p not teasing anyone about their incontinence!

Actually, if you recall, this weekend was the one that I mentioned as a possibility a while ago.

The last 5 years or so my friends and I have been going for MLK Day weekend. But I couldn't make it last year, and couldn't make it this year either because of work committments.

You hadda remind me...they're leaving tonight

The problem with your logic, I think, is that those are they odds of us meeting on a predetermined given day.

Like, "what are the odds that they will both be on there on January 15th, given the fact that they are each there for 4 and 9 random days, respectively.

But that's not the question. the question is "what are the odds that we will meet on any day, given the above conditions.

So we're going with 19-1, right?

Hear that, Buffy? 19-1

A few weeks ago, Bethie wanted to know what the odds were of two people picking the same roster, so DB and I figured it out.

Today you wanted to know what the odds were of us being in Vegas at the same time, so DB and I figured that one out, too.

What we guys wouldn't do for you chicks.

Jesus... No.

(Torrid, yes.)

However, we did 'broke' the record with the Fantasy Baseball thread last year.

But since we all claim we're not playing this year, de nada.

What you guys "wouldn't do for us chicks"???? As it should be.

Carry on, people. I'll check in next week after my trip to Vegas to see who is winning. Go DB!

Buffy, have you not learned anything from reading the past posts? You never ask anyone what odds are for any ratio. You will always get an answer you weren't looking for.

I never go to Vegas. What are the odds of you and I meeting there Buff?

{Sitting back and waiting for the two numbers crunchers to work this one out}.

Aaaah.... Isn't this great, with Buffy here all day. Just like old times. Now if we could just get BDD over here....

Listen Buff, I have an idea. Join the league tonight. Pick a team for tomorrow. It's just practice for you for the next 4 weeks anyway.

No committments...skip a day or two if you like. Just try it. For one day.

This is wierd...

I was trying to find info to see if Ben wallace was facing a suspension after his ejection last night, so I went to the Detroit Pistons website.

They didn't have anything there, but I noticed a link to a message board, so I went there.

What's wierd is, it's exactly the same format and look as JG's. Maybe you've seen other boards like ours but I never had, so it was kind of freaky.

Here...check it out...
