You recognize sarcasm. He was called "the next Larry Bird" when he was drafted. He was a tall guy with a good outside shot, but you're right. Bird was great because he made others better. You can't say that about Van Horn.
I think the reason MJ became a team player is directly related to Phil Jackson. Maturity of Pippen helped too, but as soon as MJ decided to be more of a team player and let his individual stats slide a little was when the Bulls went to dynasty status.
