Originally posted by Don Marco: Actually, it's virtually unheard of for a center to have a triple double. Centers almost never have enough assists to qualify. I'm sure Chamberlain could've done it, but none of the others. I agree with you, Don Marco. I think that guards are usually the ones with the BEST chance to have a triple double. Usually getting double figures in points is a given, and since guards have the ball in their hands for most of the game, then they're the ones most likely to get 10 assists. A lot of rebounds happen by accident or by being in the right place at the right time, so it's not unheard of for a guard to get 10 rebounds every tenth game or so. If the father of the triple double was Oscar Robertson, then the next generation was Magic Johnson. More recently we have Jason Kidd and sometimes Kobe Bryant posting them. Do you notice that they're all guards? In the rare instance that a center will get a triple double, it's often because they have a really good game defensively and end up with 10 blocks. Wilt Chamberlain is the only center to ever lead the league in assists, and he did that in his later years with the Lakers. Wilt is the only player in history to have what I like to call a double-triple-double. In one game he had over 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 20 assists. That's like two triple-doubles for the price of one. He's probably also the only guy to have 20 blondes, 20 brunettes, and 20 redheads all in the same night!

Man it sucks that "The Admiral" was once a dominating player then went downhill. I mean he once a quintuple-double (pts, rebs, blocks and assists) and scored 71 points on last game of season to beat Shaq for scoring title. It used to be that you could build a team around the cete, but now it's all about the flash and pizzaz. I think the fact that high schoolers are skipping college to go to the pro's. Just about all of these high schoolers are tall and could put on some muscle in college and maybe turn out to be decent centers on the next level.

A quintuple-double would be double figures in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. Although it's an amazing feat, it wasn't the first time it happened. Nate Thurmond, who was the center for the San Francisco Warriors in the 60s and 70s had the first recorded one. Thurmond was a hall-of-famer, but unfortunately Russ and Wilt were the dominant centers at the beginning of his career, and Kareem was the dominant one at the end of his career. If he had played in a different era he would have probably been remembered as one of the greats. And if I remember correctly, Hakeem Olajuwon also posted a quadruple-double once in his heyday.

Right, that's what I meant a quadruple-double. Hakeem must have done it awhile ago because I can't remember. What I do remember is him schooling "the Admiral" on those 2 pivot fakes.

While on the subject of the Rockets, Yao Ming had 30 points but lost to the Mavericks tonight. It's the second straight impressive game for Yao. Although the season is less than a month old, I'm surprised at his recent success.

I feel, in general, since he's won the NBA championship 3 years in a row, he's getting kind of an ego. I mean, it's a great feat to win 3 in a row, but that shouldn't change your attitude or who you are! Michael never really changed (at least I don't think). I was too young to really remember him winning his first 3 championships in '91, '92, and '93. In '91 I was only 8, and I NEVER watched sports center or read the paper, so I didn't really know what was going on in the world! Same thing really until Mike won 3 more in '96, '97, and '98!

He has every right to say what he's saying, but just because he does have the right, doesn't give him the right to do it! Also, what do you think about MJ & this whole affair thing? If it's true, I'm TOTALLY surprised & disappointed in Michael. I'll still be a fan, but it will hurt me a little bit. Just like when Britney Spears said she wasn't a virgin!

He's a very public figure and he's idolized by thousands and thousands of young children. Hell, probably about 95% of the current players in the NBA grew up wanting to be like Mike. On the other hand, MJ's business is MJ's business. It's unfortunate that celebrities lose all of their privacy. Not that I'm condoning such behavior, but there are a whole lot of people out in the world who are having extramarital affairs. But because MJ is famous, we have to air his dirty laundry to sell newspapers and get TV ratings.

I agree, that I feel bad that celebrities loss their privacy, but still, as a Christian I don't condone what he did, and I lost some respect for him! I think it's unfortuniate, but it may have happened. The reason that I'm kinda disgusted is as before I'm a Christian & don't approve of such behavior, but also, as you said, MJ is 1 of the biggest role models in sports history and he should be setting a good example! I know men who are faithful only to their wives, so it can be done. And I know when you're on the road & you've got all these women wanting you that it's hard to say no. But, you can still be a man & say no!

Jazz fan right here, and even though we don't have a ring to show for it, I'm proud to admit I've had the pleasure of watching Malone and Stockton playing flawless, fundamental basketball for many years now. Unfortunately, all good things must end and we'll have enough trouble getting the 8th seed this year.
Personally, I've been a basketball fan for a long time, but I like watching the game from a fundamental standpoint, the way it was meant to be played (/cliche). I love to play basketball more than to watch it (sans the Jazz) these days because the game is being spat and urinated on by the Houston Rockets of this world. Once Stockton and Malone are gone, as long as Jerry Sloan and/or his successor(s) stick to the system and play the game right, I'll stick with the Jazz. These young guys are starting to grow on me. Once that changes, though, I'll part ways with a game that has come to be dominated by the "hip-hop, dollar dollar, bling bling, pass me da rock, I'm a thug, holmes" generation I am ashamed to share an age bracket with.

The Grizzlies played a fine game and are accepting Hubie Brown's new system. Don't worry though, it isn't the end of the season for Washington yet.

Yeah, the Bucks didn't have it going at all tonite after Ray Allen rolled his ankle of Shaq's foot. Another triple-double for Kobe, geez what is that like 4 already? I'm confident that the Bucks will take care of business, if Allen is ok, in Phoenix tonight.

He is playing great thus far in the season and is shooting an incredible percentage. I know my Jazz and about 15 other teams tried to go after him this offseason but you guys made the right move by not letting him go to Dallas. Gilbert Arenas (another former 2nd rounder) is also turning a few heads in Golden State. He works his ass off day in and day out.
