Man, has it been a rough weekend... Friends of mine were at the Chicago "porch" party, which was literally 2 blocks from my apartment. Luckily, most were inside when it happened. One was outside (on the second floor porch) but she only sustained scratches and bruises and had to get some stitches. Unfortunately, she was outside with a close friend of hers (who I didn't know) and he wasn't able to make it. The way they describe it to me- it was just complete nightmare and chaos. I was in the hospital 3 AM Sunday morning making sure everyone was alright. I guess the best I could do is be supportive- giving people rides when they need it or just listening. JG... you were a counselor, right?... Any ideas on grief counseling?? Thanks.

P.S. Sorry to get off-topic from Fantasy, but I figure you guys are the ones on this board that I would think of telling anyway.

Hey DS - With the news reports and reading about it, what a sad story that is. 12 people died in that accident and when I read the story it was just so sudden and chaotic that unfortuntely there was so little anyone could do. It might seem like you didn't do much - but for those that you helped or assisted, your presence was greatly needed.

My sympathies to your friends Don Sicilia. I'm sure it was a nightmare. What makes me mad is some of these things can be avoided. What the f*** were 50 people doing on balcony. That's just plain idiotic. Sorry, it's a sad thing, but only a tragedy waiting to happen.

You did a good thing by just being there for your friends, Don Sicilia. Offering them rides and other "things" of normalcy had to be comforting to them in a stressful time.

Its sad when anyone dies, but to use Katharine Hepburn as an example (who was 96) one knows its just a matter of time and is expected. Its really tough to hear about someone very young dying (unexpectedly).

I was very saddened when I first heard this story, even more so now because one of my BB friends is directly touched by it. My thoughts are with you and your friends, DS.

Wow DB, I admit when I read that story, your name flashed through my head as someone I know lives there but I NEVER would have DREAMED you would be personally affected. I echo the sentiments of all your fantasy bb friends here...Such a horrible catastrophe and often times we feel we are useless,like we can't do enough, but your friends are VERY lucky to have you and your support during this time and in the future as the memory of this tragedy will most likely stay with them for a while. Hang in there. Don't forget to lean on YOUR support system when YOU need to. I know we are all a pretty good set of ears around here.....Of course PL is the one with the pair of burning ones....
