Anyone interested in playing ESPN's Pigskin Pick\'em is welcome to join the GangsterBB league! ( Here is the general address in case that link doesn't allow you access before joining)

Standard weekly football picks, against the spread. I've created a private group, so encourage anyone and everyone to join if they're interested (max of 50 players).

1) Sign up with ESPN's site if you haven't yet. Create your own user name and password.

It'd be helpful if you used your BB displayed name as your Real Name or Team Name so we know who's who. If you use your real name, it will be visible to everyone else. If you don't want that visible, put a fake name in, like, your user name on this board. You can change your name and team name at any time, just be sure it's easy for the rest of us to know who you are.

2) Go to the URL above to activate the game (MAKE SURE YOU CREATE YOUR ENTRY WITH A POINT SPREAD!), and make your picks for Week 1.

3) Join the following group (use the search):
Group Name: GangsterBB
Group Password: 8675309

Game Settings:
--Point Spread (MAKE SURE YOU CREATE YOUR ENTRY WITH A POINT SPREAD!)
--Worst week NOT dropped
--NO default picks if you fail to make your picks

Prizes:
--Bragging Rights
--Overall winner will get a Godfather DVD poster (Damn, I still gotta get poster mailing tubes )

Benefits:
--All the smack-talk you can give or take in this thread throughout the season.

***** To maximize your points, please do this before the first game of the season, Thurs Sep 4th (Jets vs Skins) *****

Yeah, I do But decided that Pigskin Pick'em would be more fun and probably more accessible to people here. I don't want one thread about two games, so not sure what to do about Gridiron Challenge here...

Geoff, as you know, I am involved in a lot of games . Heck, my life is one big FANTASY! I am not really familiar with the spread games but I will check this one out. You know I hardly back down from a challenge. So count me ALL in.

Just so you know, if I get myself into one more sports related venue, I may be asked to get my own place. I walk a thin line at home this time every year when the sports overlap .

No idea, K-M... people have been getting in. And you seem to have Jenny's Number correct. All I can say is, try again?

The Member Name and the Password, I believe, is for the account you created, I thought. Once you get in the game with your account, then you can look for the Gangster BB league (and use the password), right JG?

I've always believed that people in dead last just have more of an exciting life than putting everything they have into a stupid fantasy game

I'm sure about 8 others would disagree

Seriously I need to know?

I'm in (of course)

And just let me say that I will be quite surprised if I don't do very well.

Every year since 1987 I've been in an office pool with about 90 people, $10 a week, $250 weekly prize, $2500 first prize at season end, $2000 for second, etc.

I wired the field last year, going 15-1 the first week, winning Season First prize for the second time. (I won it in 1998) I also finished second once, and had several other finishes in the money.

And I back my choices with real money. Nothing big, but I come out on the plus side almost every year.

Remember where you read it first.

All I can say for Mr. pl: an appropriate quote from the Bible:
Matthew 23:12
"Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, but whoever humbles himself shall be exalted."

I'm in a pool-which must remain anonymous- $50 entry fee. Every week you pick one team to win. If they win you move on. If they lose you are out. Once you pick a team, you can never pick that team again. Winning pot is $80K. Two years ago I made it to week 7. Last year, out after week 2. Last year there was a tie - 4 winners split $80gs. Two years ago 1 guy walked away with all of it after week 14. He was the last guy left. Amazingly about 40% go out the first week. Talk about nailbiting.

Well Joe Bonanno, it's simple. A superb offense, plus an average defense, plus some other factors equals a Super Bowl team.

Priest Holmes is, in many peoples opinion, the best running back in the NFL. It's hard to disagree with that considering he has led the NFL in yards and touchdowns that past 2 years together.
Tony Gonzalez might miss 1-2 games, but he still holds the biggest target on his back. One of the top 3 tight ends in the league, he draws the attention of EVERYONE on the field, opening up the grounds for Holmes, T-Rich, and recievers.
The Chiefs O-Line IS the best in the NFL. This is not up for debate. Willie Roaf, Will Shields, Brian Waters, Casey Wiegman and John Tait are the most experienced and dominating line since Lombardi's Packers.
The Chiefs recievers are hardly a weakness. Eddie Kennison is a solid reciever. Chris Horn and Snoop Minnis have had great preseasons. Jonnie Morton still has a little something left in him. That leaves my favorite receiver, Marc Boerighter. He's burning fast, and always gets the "big play". The one that can crush an opponent's lungs.

Let's move to defense. It was ugly last year. Terrifying. I hated it. This year? It's better. Jerome Woods missed last year. Ryan Sims missed last year. We got some great new players in Shawn Barber, Dexter McCleon and Vonnie Holiday. They won't be top 10, but all we need is a top 17.

Other factors. I don't think we'll win it all just because it's Dick's third year. I think we'll win it all because his past two years have all led up to this year. First offseason--get his offensive players set. Get rid of any unnessary players who don't "fit the system". Second offseason--get his defensive players set. Continue to build up offense. Start getting team focused on Super Bowl. Third offseason-- enjoy Disney World.

We have fine special teams. Morton Anderson, as good as he ever has been. Dante Hall- Pro Bowl returner. Punter? Well, I don't think we have to worry about our punting game (see: offense)

That, my senior Steelers friend, is how my Kansas City Chiefs will make it to the Super Bowl- and win (despite what Dr. Z says). It's also how they will beat your Bus-less Steelers in week 2.

Question- Once you submit your teams can you go back and change them before the games play that day like we do in Fantasy Baseball?
Or is it once in your in?

FS, after you've made your picks, there should be an "Edit Game Settings" link which you can click on. You can change your team name there.

Ah yes. The Survivor League. At least that is what WE call it around here. I have been doing that with peeps here for about 5-6 years. I had talked to JGeoff about starting one here but I have so much on my sports/entertainment plate, I'm not sure I can muster the energy to organize one.

One year there were about 20 of us in and we were ALL eliminated by Week 3 ( Lions beat the good team we all picked or something ) so we put up $10 more and started again. I have made it to 3rd a few times and 2nd once, but never won the whole she-bang.

Maybe this year?
