Its arabic origins is very likely true since Sicily was overrun by so many peoples including arabs. The origins of words is so interesting. How many times have I heard someone say that Ocho Rios in Mexico (?) means eight rivers when it is actually a corrupted spelling and pronunciation of a Mayan word for the location.
