The two newbies seem to have gotten right into the whining mode early.

Guys, it's only the first day. It took us at least a few weeks last year before we were saying how the game sucks and we weren't gonna play the second half or next year.

BTW, newbies, let me add to my comments above, and in all seriousness, the following, to which I am certain that JG, LDV, and DB, who all played the entire season, as well as SC and FS, who played most of it, will agree:

We all had an absolutely graet time playing last year, with the game itself taking a back seat to the comraderie we developed over the six month season.

If you take the time to read through the 5000+ posts in last year's thread, or just go to any page randomly and start reading, you'll see what I mean. You'll find humor, pathos, just plain silliness, double entendres and sexual innuendo, whining, and trash talking, all in the spirit of the fun we were having.

I urge you all to stay the course, regardless of how well or poorly you do. If you do, you'll find that at season's end, you've made some real friends -- people who you will truly want to meet in person some day, as some of us have had the pleasure of doing.

Besides, I want you guys to stick around 'cause I need the competition.

Now that I have a moment, I see that Mike I'm-Really-Not-the-ACE-of-the-staff Mussina (and the bullshitpen) was really responsible for my first game suckiness. Let me bow down and worship the overwhelming, intuitiveness of Grand Master Pea-Law-Rinse.

That's the spirit, MC.

This game isn't about scores. It's about retorts, barbs, insults, and pithy musings.

And, as you see (if you do care to pay attention to the scoring), pitching means a whole lot in this game, as it does in real life.

Plus 19 for Tampa vs. minus 15 for the Yanks. A 34 point swing.

Aw, feel the love. The mush!! It's laid on so thick, I feel I need a shower!!

Friends, schmiends.

Everyone wants to win - and to also inflict non-fatal voodoo curses on their competitors. Don't let lull you into a false sense of warm fuzzies. We all live for the day HE whines!

Even as the token chick, I have a few disadvantages. My womanly charm and powers DO work better in person . That said, guess I will challenge all youse guys in a standard footrace if ever we meet face to face.

Funny...I had so many other adjectives to describe Mike Mussina....but one would expect that from a chick.

But as says, you've already got the hang of it. Expect your PS to let you down more times than not. You may start up letter writing campaigns just as does with the hope that these multi-million dollar players will listen to us little guys and try harder!

Wait a minute, Buffster...

You mean you don't want to meet me in person?
It was all lies?
When you promised me "the time of my lfe" if I ever made it to New Mexico...Not true?
The rendezvous in Las Vegas? The dinner at the Mirage? Watching the fountains at the Bellagio? Siegfried & Roy?

All of those were just empty promises in exchange for the strategy tips I gave you?

I'm a broken man.

You gave me strategy tips? When did this enlightenment take place??

No, no lies plaw. We meet in Vegas - I buy you dinner twice (or was it 3 times? Dammit! I forget!) I wasn't sure if rendevous-ing was ever discussed (in that case, best to leave your camera at home!) But we can walk arm in arm and throw coins in fountains if you want to!!

Time of your life? I have to save my strength for Bethie's visit. I might be a broken woman after she is done with me!!

I wish I had the time to go every other weekend. I barely get to go every other month.

And thanks for the (belated) birthday greetings. I'll forgive you since you were on vacation. But in case you didn't know, in the Jewish religion (which I practice faithfully), the birthday celebration extends for 15 days from the time at which the greetings are first offered, and true friends generally offer the same gift for each of the 15 days that they did initially.

True friend??? I thought that was a TV show. :p

Well, let me tell you a little bit about my religion - Catholicism... You see, every 25th of December, we celebrate the grand daddy of all birthdays and we just give gifts on that day. Lots of gifts, mind you, but only on that day. That's protocol.

However, I broke protocol, just for you plaw. I knew about your custom... I just chose to give it for 15 consecutive days before your birthday! Call it religion-artistic interpretation!
