If the expected value of an offensive player is 2.5 points and he goes 0-4 or doesn't play, you just lost 2.5 points that another position has to make up. It hurts you a little bit.

The issue we run into (and what I think FS is trying to say) is that, relatively speaking, an offensive player doing badly won't hurt you as much as your PS doing badly. We all know that, and we all know that it's really an unfair comparison. We all would rather have a player go 0-4 than have our pitching staffs get shellacked.
