Home-Road for Ishii

This Year, Home 4-1, 1.45
Last Year, Home 5-2, 3.12

This Year, Road 2-2, 5.72
Last Year, Road 4-5, 4.70

However, Lifetime at Bank One he's 1-0 with a 0.00 E.R.A in 2 starts, 11 innings.

Keep your chin up. I still think you'll catch SC and FS. The weather's getting nice, so FS will miss a day cutting the grass or hanging flower baskets or something, and SC is due to miss a day or two soon himself.

Even if they don't, you're the better player. The cream always rises. Why, just look at me and DB.

Sure you do

I've been keeping everyone's pitching records an an Excel spreadsheet. Whee do you think I get our league pitching stats from?

It took me about 5 minutes to figure out the above.

How They Could Make This Game Better:

When we pick a Pitching Staff for the day, we base it almost entirely on the starting pitcher. At least I know I do. Buffy always figures that Gagne is gonna save her Dodgers somehow, and factors that in, but I never even think about a bullpen. Maybe the truly great players in this game look at things like "Did the closer pitch the last two nights and is possibly unavailable tonight"?, and factors that in if he's hung up between two pitching staffs, and maybe I/we should too if we want to take our strategy and study to the next level, but if I'm correct, the starting pitcher is all we really think about.

So here's my idea:

Why not have each starting pitcher carry his own salary cap value? Wouldn't that make for a better game?

The way it stands now, nobody would spend 7.6 on the Cubs when Glendon Rusch or Sergio Mitre is pitching, and we all seem to hop on Cleveland for 4.5 when Sabbitha is on the mound.

Then, they would just list every single pitcher, just like they do with the position players, and it would be up to us to figure out who was supposed to pitch that day, just like we have to do for catchers. If you picked Ben Sheets the other night, and he was a game time scratch, too bad; you'd get no points.

For scoring purposes, you'd get only the pitching points earned by the pitcher you select. If he gets the win, you get 5 points. If a reliever picks up the the win, you get nothing. But if he gets bombed and the bullpen gets bombed for more (see Lopez, Baltimore), at least you would only be minus your starter's points. Or if your starter pitched 8 good innings, and the bullpen gave up four runs in the 9th, those points wouldn't get subtracted from your total.

Maybe they could even add another position for closer, and you could pick one of those each day and get his points too, if he pitched. If he didn't, too bad.

The result would be that unless the pitcher threw a complete game, which, of course, is quite rare these days, there would be fewer points scored for pitching, which would be a good thing since I think pitching is overvalued in this game anyway. We pay 43 or 44 points in cap value for an offense, and usually get somewhere between 20-40 points, and then spend 6 or 7 on pitching and can get 20-40 more. Doesn't make sense to me.

Wouldn't doing it this way add a couple of additional strategy elements to the game and make it better?

The only drawback would be for the people who play the old JG "Set it and forget it" method. Four days out of five, they'd have no pitcher. But people who play that way have absolutely no chance of winning the league they are in anyway, unless everyone in that league plays the same way. I say, let 'em play the right way, or suffer the consequences. Or start a different game for the set it and forget it crowd, with a couple of spots on a disabled list that you could use to replace someone who was injured.

Whaddaya think? About the idea, not whether or not I'm nuts to be spending 15 minutes writing this.

In theory, I hear you. I do think about the bullpen - for sure. Unless you have a good idea your pitcher is going 7+ innings, you think about things like that. Gagne, Mariano (2 of the best closers in the game), Borowski, Foulke, Mantei to name a few.

In my other league, we pick pitchers - not pitching staffs - and hang on to them. DB prob does the same in his rotisserie league. That is a whole 'nother game; whole different ball of wax, whole different strategy.

If you are suggesting we change up the game a little at this point, then no, I am not in favor of that. I think it is hard enough to keep players in this game (all 7 of us )and if you complicate things up they'll leave in droves.

And it would be no fun playing with yourself, would it?

But then again, I am just one voice. I can go with the flow - but remembering, I too will often have to be a member of the "set it and forget it" club. And then your idea would sure suck. Blow chunks. Suck ass.

pl....you're nuts. But you're a nice nuts.
It's all relative to itself, so in theory you can make a Fantasy game about anything. Kinda like poker when One-eyed kings and jack are wild, sevens that follow a black queen and aces before deuces. 15 minutes? Someone is waiting for their limo.

Here in Mayberry, we call that game "Boyz in da Hood"...we play it at least 4 times in a night.

I never deal that though...

I'm not suggesting the way we play. I mean, who would keep track of the scores and everything?

I'm suggesting that ESPN change the way they run the game. I think my way would be better.

In a Rotisserie League you pick more than one pitcher, you pick a whole staff, right? That is a different game. A draft (Ohmigod, I just a had a flash on last year's football draft and got dizzy), keep players from year to year, etc. Like you said, a whole different game.

Some good points there, Plaw. But then it'd be a different game, and require even more time to play...

Hey, DB. Prior looked pretty good today.

6 IP, 8 K's, 2 hits.

Hey, JG. I just realized you took my guy Schmidt tonight. But at Colorado??? Didn't you learn your lesson last year? :p

I figured I'd give him a chance.

Versus Colorado from 2001-2003 he's 4-1 in 6 starts (1.99 ERA) and at Coors Field he's 1-0 in 2 starts (2.63 ERA). And last week he did great agaist them (1 run in 8 innings). And he's given up only 2 runs his past three games (25 IP, 7 H, 6 BB, 30 K). And, he hasn't lost since April (tho maybe after all this, he's probably due now! )

...but most importantly, he's not a Mutt!

-T Helton walked, R Clayton to second.

Yo Yo Yo - Big Daddy in Da House

and I'm giving a big shout out to all my peeps.

So I hope you 'kids' are all behaving yourselves, staying out of trouble. Well a few of you know I that is damn near impossible but we can hope.

I see PL got his first place back - doesn't want to let it go. Personally I think Pork making him a 'mod' inspired him again. He was slipping until that - instilled a new sense of urgency with him. Pork is still in third, technically still my spot or would have been - and NO I'm not a Wuss. :p FS and SC continue to battle, Buffy continues to bring up her rear, opps 'the 'rear. that was close. And MC is evaluating some new strategy by selecting an entire team, seems some days it pays off well and other days, not so well.

A ton of things going on with me luckily all good, and luckily I won't bore you all with the details.

DB, my Chicago trip is looking very iffy or delayed, although if it does go through I expect you to 'hook me up', you know help a brother out.

So just 'dropping in' while I had the chance and giving a shout out.

As you were Peeps.

Ok, so not the most accurate description, but whoa!......my Ishii got the highest pitching score of ALL of us?? The fact that I can count that score on three hands is small consolation. But hey, I'll take it.

Greeting from Lake Conroe, Outside of Huston Tx.

Finally had a chance to get online. Family wedding here. Great trips. Partys all day and night. Hotel told us they had Interenet with computers so I didn't pack a laptop. Sure room was being redone and was closed!

So today I did get to change my team. I left with Boston just in case on Thursday night for the long weekend. I guess it didn't hurt to much. We will have to see what today brings. I did change for Sunday.

Have to run as the wedding is in a couple of hours and everyone to headed out.

What a perfect place here on the lake.

Greetings, FS. Family wedding? I had a couple of those last year. And one of those girls is already expecting a baby at the end of this month. Hopefully your couple will wait until their 1st year anniversary to have a kid. I have another niece getting married next May, on my mom's birthday too. My daughter is a bride's maid again. I think I'm all weddinged out. Hopefully yours will be more fun. There was no liquor at any of the ones I went to. zzzzzz..

Have fun on the lake. Take your own advice. There is life outside this box.
