10 Things I Think I Think (ala Peter King)

1 - The Cubbies better step it up pretty soon. If they can only get into the playoffs, I would take that pitching staff over any team in a 7-game series. Is there anyone who is more over-rated than Sammy Sosa? Ugggghhh.
2 - Very strange second half so far. I wouldn't have guessed that my trouble would be PS picks.
3 - I've never seen 4400. Any good, BDD? The only show I watch is Last Comic Standing. Don't laugh - I like stand-up comedy.
4 - Saw Spider-man last night finally. I liked it a lot. Action sequences were great (despite the fact that it was all CGI).
5 - I'm not feeling too confident about my team for tonight. I didn't spend more than two minutes picking a team.
6 - I just had my last golf lesson yesterday. I must say, it really helped. My golf instructor basically re-did my whole swing. It's going to take some getting used to (I still flubb every 3rd shot), but I know in the long run, it'll help.
7 - I feel like going to Vegas.
8 - First Celebrity Poker, now there is Celebrity Blackjack. Nothin' like celebrities betting $50,000 and hitting on 16 when the dealer is showing a 4, because, you know, "I gotta make sure". :rolleyes: What's next, Celebrity War?
9 - I know Buffy reads him, but I recommend all of you to read The Sports Guy on "Page 2" of ESPN.com. He's my favorite sports writer...

#5 - I hear ya. On the weekends, my picks are pretty much a crapshoot and normally made late, late at night when I am desperate to just fill in slots so I can busy myself with something else. All you can do is cross some fingers and hope for the best.

I like Celebrity Boxing myself. The best one was when they paired Arnold Horshack with Screech Powers from Saved by the Bell. It was brutal. Arnold got the living Sweathog beaten out of him!

#10 - I just finished Mystic River. If you haven't seen the movie yet, read the book. It is excellent. I usually don't read alot of fiction, but every now and then something drops into my lap.

Double check you alignment. How many times I hit an errant shot only to look down and see I was aligned wrong, or have someone say "you were pointing that way."

"Takedown" by Rick Cowan - good non-fiction account of an undercover cop infiltrating the mob in New York City's waste management business.

Probably out of print and hard to find, though, but worth the search.

Any baseball book by Bill James (specifically "The Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract" or "Whatever Happened To The Hall Of Fame?")

Any baseball book by Roger Angell of The New Yorker Magazine.

Any baseball book by Thomas Boswell of the Washington Post.

Any travelogue by Bill Bryson (His recent bestseller was "A Walk In The Woods", about his experiences hiking the Appalachian Trail, but he has 4 or 5 others that are equally terrific and hilarious).

"Double Fold" By Nicholson Baker. How our libraries are systematically destroying rare books and newspapers in the name of "saving space". Sounds boring, but it's not at all, and if you're a voracious reader like I am, you'll be outraged.

"The Caine Mutiny" by Herman Wouk. A million times better than the crappy movie with Humphrey Bogart, it's my favorite novel of all time.
