Man, what a waste of 27 pitching points. Only 31 on offense...Had a chance of putting up a big score there.

Hold your horses, Mr. Law... I got on a conference call... :p

I want to thank you and everyone for their book suggestions/reviews. It sounds like you're an avid reader, plaw. I bet I'll like your suggestions - I think we analytically think the same way.

Buffy - Yes, I've seen Mystic River. I thought it was an excellent movie. Kind of depressing though. I'll look into the book.

MC - I'll go look up the reviews on your suggestions on Amazon.

Plaw - I think I'll pick up The Devil In The White City this weekend since it came so highly recommended.

As for what I've been reading lately, I've been trying to read more lately - The Da Vinci Code, The Sicilian, LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring... mostly mainstream stuff. The book that I'm almost finishing now is fascinating (for me, at least)... The book is The Man Who Knew Infinity... It's a biography on an early 20th century mathematician, Srinavasa Ramanujan. For those of you who've seen Good Will Hunting, there's a scene where Robin Williams and the professor were in a bar discussing Will's genius. Anyway, the professor compared Will to Ramanujan, who, self-taught and with simple algebra books, proofed out some of the most original math in centuries. Groundbreaking stuff.

Yes, as you all know, I am, in fact, a nerd.

Really????!!!!

I had NOOO idea! :p

If being a nerd means always having a book or 3 handy...then allow me to carry the pocket protector today.

I would honestly rather read a book than watch a movie any day of the week. I am always way too critical of movies and not many people like to watch them with me. I am the quintessential movie snob. At least with a book - in fiction - alot is left up to your imagination.

Sometimes with non-fiction you can just use your imagination alot too!!!

Thanks DB for the gift although it appears it will clash with my outfit today. Will have to wear something to compliment it tomorrow.

And since you (and others ) took cuts in front of me in the line - here is MY gift to YOU for later:

For Schmidt - a get well fruit basket. Heard he has 4 broken fingers and stomach cramps :p

(Ok, maybe not, but maybe he will play like something ails him!)

Some guys have all the charm like you. I don't have a nice, sweet, innocent bone in my body. So don't worry. Hang with me long enough and I'll toughen you up.

I better watch it with all this sweet talk to you. I might make Bad Daddy jealous.

B.J. Surhoff hasn't played in 5 weeks and his first at bat he hits a 2 run homer. What a guy.

I'm perplexed as to how this game is not rained out. At my house the rain's coming down in buckets.

587 is larger than 570. So give me my damn * and move me up a notch! :p

Stick with me guy, we'll be allright. Offense seems to be my problem THESE days!

EDIT: WOW! SC edited the scores and I posted this message AT THE EXACT PRECISE MINUTE! (Then he edited 5 minutes later.... )

Scary - were you reading my thoughts? Thanks SC, it is so seldom I ever move up in this game!

Simultaneous posting. It's been a while since I've done that! Perhaps I need a smoke!

Yeah, well I just spent 10 minutes figuring out the official scores and where the discprencies came from (one more ER charged to DB's Schmidt, CC's and MC's two and one point from Balt-Bost game washed out, SC's 11 point Boston PS loss washed out), and I come back and it's done already.

Speaking of which, I could never understand why the stats shouldn't count in a game that was started and then washed out.

I know it's not an official game in the sense that there's no win or loss to count in the standings, but the hitters hit and the pitchers pitched in an officially scheduled game. Just because the game wasn't finished, what's the logic in not having their stats count?

Forgive me, please. I don't do this often, especially because I'm usually in first place and don't think that whining becomes the guy who's winning, but this was disgusting:

Cubs 9th inning last night vs. Milwaukee, costing me 11 points:

-Top of the 9th inning
-M Alou walked.
-D Lee singled to shallow left, M Alou to second.
-M Alou safe at third, D Lee safe at second on throwing error by pitcher D Burba.
-A Ramirez fouled out to first.
-C Patterson intentionally walked.
-M Barrett hit for P Bako.
-J Bennett relieved D Burba.
-M Alou scored, D Lee to third, C Patterson to second on wild pitch by J Bennett.
-M Barrett hit sacrifice fly to right, D Lee scored, C Patterson to third.
-J Macias hit for K Mercker.
-C Patterson scored on J Bennett's wild pitch.
-J Macias struck out swinging.

3 runs, 1 hit, 1 error, 2 wild pitches

Simple....if the game isn't official, the stats don't count. Reminds me of my favorite Norman Rockwell painting:

Oh, I was up. From 2:30 until 3:00, checking my various sources to make absolutely sure that there wasn't gonna be a Balt-Bost DH today.

Working the hours that I do, I don't have that luxury (of checking rainouts being re-scheduled). I was relieved to see the rainout had not been rescheduled for today.

What difference would that make to you?

OK, guys and gals, just in case anyone thought there was a plaw impostor (that suddenly grew a bladder last night and didn't need to post the update) you can rest easy now. The real plaw is in the house.
