I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

I'm just wondering why you didn't take advantage of picking one of the d-h PS's... I don't know who's pitching, but, I *always* go for the potential, but you chose not to... interesting....

I wrestled with that one a long time. The pitchers were too crappy, the wind is supposed to blowing....

I couldn't find even one guy on SF who I was sure was gonna play both games, so I wound up with more Montreal hitters.

Couldn't take the SF staff with more guys from Montreal on offense, couldn't take the Mont PS with who they had pitching....

Well, all I gotta say is... I hope I don't get too burned by this fundamental error. OMG, this really (I think) is the first one I missed in 1+ years... and, it's been on my calender!! Ah well, we got some time left...

I wouldn' fret too much over missing this one.

Like I said, who on SF will play both games? Probably one of their 3 outfielders, since they only carry 5, but which one? Bonds (age 40), Grissom (37) or Tucker (35)?

The only SF guy I think will play both is Feliz (one at 1B and one at 3B) 'cause I don't think Snow or Fonzie will play both, and maybe Dustin Mohr, who could fill in in both games for one of the outfielders who gets rested. And I didn't even take Feliz anyway, thinking that Wilkerson was the better pick.

The only reason I took Bonds & Durham is because they're as good a pick as anyone, DH or not, and who knows? They could get into the second game if they don't start by pinch hitting or something.

Aside from Wilkerson, and Batista at 3B, the other two Mont guys who I picked because I thought they would play both games - Chavez & Gonzo - aren't such great hitters anyway.

This was the worst DH to try and pick from an offensive POV that I can remember.

Yeah, tough call yesterday but of all the offense I chose for today, all but one (and my catcher, of course) played both games in the prior DH's in June.

I look at it this way - ANY game is a crap shoot to whether or not a player plays.

I screwed up last time I took a non DH team on a DH day - thought I was being smart. That too is a crap shoot. I agree with Pork - you sometimes just have to go for the "potential" and hope any runs scored against your PS is by the opposing offense you have.

And Pork - you have to write these down???? You can't tell by the probables when a team is listed twice??? Maybe you need a palm pilot like DB has to keep track!

Palm Pilot. Pork. There is a good joke there, I just know it! :p

The website JG found (and Plaw linked up above) is awesome. For the computer experts, how do you think the creator links his site up to ESPN? I wonder if he got permission or he hacked in somehow.

Grissom (no surprise) and Bonds are not in the starting line-up for Game 1.

Will regroup later....

Smelling like a rose, as usual - good call (so far)...

Game 2 SF SP is shit, and who knows who's pitching for Montreal... I feel a bit better with my Woody now. Tho I'm gonna miss that offense

Let's see how the offense faired in Game One:

10 pts - Vidro (LD, CC, CB)
6 pts - JT Snow (CC, SC)
5 pts - Wilkerson (PL, DB, LD, CB)
4 pts - AJ (JG, LD, CC, CB, SC), Deivi (no one)
3 pts - Gonzalez, Chavez, Schneider, Rivera
2 pts - Durham, Nick Johnson
1 pt - Ledee, Batista, Mohr
0 pts - Tucker

DNP - Grissom, Bonds (1 AB), Alfonzo

Woody vs Hancock - and Hancock is prevailing

Way to go you Giants! 11-1 already, and only half-way through the game! I guess those who picked SF made the right choice after all!

It ain't over 'til it's over.

How many times have we seen some late and meaningless runs kill a good PS performance?

It was possible to pick all the right players to get the maximum number of points from the DH, and still be under the cap

Code:
 C Torrealba 2.0 5 Pts
1B Wilkerson 6.1 5
2B Vidro 5.1 10
3b Batista 5.5 4
SS Cruz 3.3 9
LF Bonds 7.2 11
CF Grissom 4.5 9
RF Tucker 5.0 6
DH Mohr 3.3 8
PS San Fran 4.4 20
-
               46.4 87
Great job by Buffy with 80. She only missed at catcher (Pierzynski 4) and shortstop (Gonzalez 3)

It happened here....Montreal got 3 runs and 5 hits (meaningless) in their last three innings.

Yeah...I had the right idea, but the wrong staff. Santana (27) was my second choice, but I hate to pick against the Yanks offense.

The Slippery Slope
PL vs DB: The Battle For First Place -- Analysis

Phillips - Johnson at catcher
With two lefties going for Colorado and Piazza on the DL, Phillips should play one game at first, and catch the other. Zeile should play the other at first, with Wilson catching. The only other first baseman the Mets have is Eric Valent, a lefty, who doesn't figure to start either game. Looks like PL has the edge here, if you assume that two games of the crappy Phillips is better than one of Johnson

Miles - Garcia at 2B
Mets only carrying three middle infielders (McEwing, Delgado, Garcia), with Matsui and Reyes both on the DL, so one of them has to play two. But will it be Garcia? Miles is no lock to play both games either, but if the each play only one, or they each play both, PL would seem to have the edge. DB has the advantage if Garcia plays two and Miles only one

Holliday - Floyd in LF
Mets carrying only two spare outfielders, Gerald Williams and Valent. Against two lefties, Floyd, who is battling nagging injuries, figures to sit one out in favor of Williams. Holliday may not play two, either, but he has a better chance to do so than Floyd does. If they both play only one, or if they both play two, the edge goes to DB. But PL has the advantage if Holliday plays both and Floyd only one.

Cameron - Burnitz in CF
See above. Who's gonna play center instead of Cameron? Williams can, but that would mean he plays both games, since I'm assuming he'll replace Floyd in one. Burnitz could play both, but I htink he'll sit against the lefty Leiter, since the Rockies have a bunch of no-name outfielders on their roster that they may want to give some playing time to. Burnitz is getting kinda old to be playing both ends of a DH, also. Of course, if both Cameron and Burnitz play both games, which is entirely possible, then DB gets the edge, but I think that Cameron is a lock to play two, and Burnitz isn't.

Of course, the DH matchup (Morneau vs. Sierra) and the PS matchup (Cards-Yanks) could negate what I perceive to be my advantage, and turn the whole day upside down.
