BTW, JG, I meant to ask you....

What was the logic in not taking Helton?

If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

First off, I don't think I could afford him.
Secondly, he had a .154 BA against Benson.
Third, lefty-lefty against Leiter, tho he has better numbers against him (at the same time, Leiter is a better pitcher).
Fourth, while Helton's BA is hot, it's all been like 0-3 pts/game.
Fifth, Daryl Ward had a great couple games after getting off the DL, and has good numbers off Lefties (tho at the same time,Perez is a good pitcher).

But I think it basically was what I could afford, having the Cubs PS. And I didn't do the math, but, if I could've afforded him anyway, I guess I just went with the hotter bat at the time. I don't know...

Good reasons, but Helton is still Helton.

Whenever I look at a Rockies hitter against a pitcher, I always subtract something in my mind if the game is on the road, and add something in if it's at Coors.

You could have saved some cap room by taking Cameron instead of Burnitz, BTW... :p

I saw that on the news today. Pretty bad when a has been band without a lead singer can't even get a gig at a stadium. It would have been a blast going to that concert just for the contact high.

Second Game.....

No Burnitz, no Garcia (and no Sierra, DB) :p

No Phillips

I can't believe how I missed the mark on Phillips. I figure he'll start both games, and he doesn't even start one.

Art "Howe Did He Ever Become A Manager" has Wilson catch both games (unheard of), and uses 45 year old "Todd 0-6 in the first game and 8 for his last 49 Zeile" at first in both.

Sheesh.....

Which?

"Howe did he ever become a manager?" or that he has Wilson catching both games?

Or both?

Mr. Art Howe
Manager
http://www.NYMets.com]www.NY]www.NYMets.com
Shea Stadium
Flushing, NY

Via E-Mail

Dear Mr. Howe,

I am a 9 year old baseball fan who plays in a fantasy
league and hopes to someday manage a real baseball
team.

Anyway, congratulations on sweeping the Rockies today,
but I have a couple of questions about strategy.

I told all my friends - Geoffy (Porky), Ronnie (Douchey),
Buffy, Hermie (Crabby), Mary, SCie, Mikey, Neri -
that Jason Phillips would play both games of the
doubleheader. I figured one game at catcher, and
one at first base.

I know he's been in a slump, but so has Todd Zeile
and you let him play both games. Also, why let Vance
Wilson catch both games? Now you have to rest him
Friday anyway, right? So if he's only going to
play two games out of three, why make it two games
on the same day?

Same thing with Zeile. San Fran has a lefty going
tomorrow, but I don't think you're going to play Zeile again,
are you? Not after his brilliant 0-10, anyway.

I have to go now. My daddy wants to use the computer
to look at porn, and it's way past my bedtime.

Yours truly,
Paulie "Pee" Lawrence

P.S. You can write back to me if you want to at

Don't know. Could go either way.

So could this one

Wilson vs. D. Cruz at shortstop:
Can't tell

Actually, I do have something to say (what a surprise)

In all of the above match-ups, two games of one of the players is better than one game of the other, regardless of who those players are.

So altho the matchup at catcher could certainly go either way (I'll even give Wilson the edge, altho there's always the chance that he might not play at all) if, as expected, Matheny only plays one game, there is a chance, albeit a tiny one, that Matheny could play two, or at least pick up an extra at bat or two as a subsitute or a pinch hitter. Edge DB

Castillo/Womack is the same story as Cameron/Burnitz yesterday. If they both play two games, Womack has the edge. But if one plays both, and the other only plays one, then the guy in both games has the advantage, and with these guys, who knows who will play two? Both teams have backups (Anderson & Hill) who get a fair amount of use. And the way Pittsburgh has so many guys who play different positions, it's always tough to figure out what their lineup will look like. Wigginton, Nunez, and Mackowiack also play second, so it's even a possibility that Castillo may not play at all. Edge DB

McCracken/Sierra could obviously go either way, but with the Yankees having the Bernie, Lofton, Sierra triumverate filling two spots (CF and DH), it's hard to figure who'll play, especially against a righthander (Ortiz). Against a lefty, you can be pretty sure that Lofton will be the one to sit, but against a righty it could be Sierra. McCracken has been playing every day, at least against righties. Edge PL

As far as Wilson/Cruz goes, I gotta figure Wilson has the edge. There's no reason to think he won't play both games, and even if he only plays one you gotta give him a big advantage over Cruz. Edge PL

Maximum Points Using All Doubleheader Players

Code:

 C Wilson 2.7 7 points
1B Helton 7.1 7
2B McEwing 2.3 7
3B Wright 3.9 12
SS Clayton 4.9 5
LF Williams 2.7 10
CF Cameron 5.9 17
RF Hidalgo 5.2 15
DH Zeile 2.3 0
PS Mets 4.6 34
-
             41.6 114
All those points for only 41.6

Even without the Mets PS, there's still 80 offensive points there. Basically, we all did crap.

Maybe with Buffy hating DHs as I do, she's skipping them on purpose??

BTW, I hate this game and I may not play next year.

Me neither, DB. By looking at my PS the last few days it doesn't look like I'm playing this year either.

Not only did Buffy miss the DH but she has the exact same team as yesterday. I guess she's taking MC's point of view and just keeping one team and sticking to it.

Here's hoping it works for her. *crosses fingers behind my back.*

They only calculated 2 earned runs. I'll take 22 ps points.

Good luck with The Diamondbacks, Geoff. I reaaaalllly mean. Honestly, I do. I'm not as spiteful as the other folks around here.

Why does it still say 22 on the site?

Now I know ESPN is run by men. They promise you more, then take it back.

The site often screws up, hence every day the -15 JG and +30 PL adjustments. I calculated 16 pts from the official box score (4 ER)

Don't worry. I won't kill the messenger. Just to show what a real angel I am I'll still wish your boys well in the second game.

Where the heck is Buffy?? She's gonna be REALLY PISSED when she comes back to see she missed two DH's and dropped to 5th (at this point)! And it's not even the weekend yet!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

ESPN and Yahoo sports lost their feed a few hours ago, apparently. Fox Sports is working, however.

Cards won Game 2, 5-3.

From my calculations, Game 2 is 24 pts for StL (+16 for Game 1 = 40 pts total). Pitts, -1 + -2 = -3 total.

Cubs and Texas PS scores were also calculated, and posted above.

I really do not want to calculate all the offense, so, hopefully it'll "come back" ...
