Playing with Wood in the afternoon, and not having any fun. He had a hard day, and didn't last very long.

Fat lot of good it did, since the top three all have him.

I guess that's why we're the top three....

I did an interesting bit of research today.....

When we pick a PS, we all look, of course, at who the starter is that day.

But starters hardly ever complete a game anymore, so I thought it would be interesting to know which starters averaged the greatest number of points per game by themselves (Which, as you may recall, is how I once suggested this game be scored: Pick a starter every day and get his points, and pick a relief pitcher every day and get his points).

If you pick a solid starter that only averages, for example, between 6-7 innings per start, you're not getting your money's worth like you are for the guy who averages 7-8 innings per start.

Anyway, here are the guys I looked at:

Martinez, Schilling, Santana, Mulder, Pavano, Zambrano (Cubs), Wood (Cubs), Carpenter, Oswalt, Clemens, Perez (Pitts), Sheets, Schmidt, Peavy, and Johnson (Ariz).

I figured their individual point totals for each of their starts, added in 5 points if their team won the game, regardless of whether or not he got the decision, and got an average number of points per start.

There were some surprises.....Unfortunatley though, I'm not going to share the results until the season is over.... :p

Sure. When the season is over, I'll share.

The predictive value of this information is suspect anyway. 25 starts or so isn't such great sample size, one or two bad games can really skew the results, and the bottom line in picking a PS is the match-up against that team in that park, etc.

I did the study more out of curiousity than anything. Still, some of the results were interesting.

Out. Or was it in? I forget.....

You want to think I'm a sick fuck, go right ahead. That's your perogative.

But coming from someone who finished last in the first half (just barely ahead of someone who wasn't even playing), and is headed for a last place finish in the second half because he's too lazy or disinterested or both to play the game right and pick a new team every day (even sticking with his team on a day when they aren't even playing), calling me an anal retentive sounds like sour grapes

The guys at the bottom always like to make up for thier shortcomings by poking fun and hurling insults at the guys on top.

You don't hear my MWA insulting me, do you? He's trying to catch me, so he shows the proper amount of respect.

Not like you and FS and the other cellar dwellers. :p

Thats not true. You never see anyone hurling insults at DB or JG or LD (but then again, you never see THEM denigrate a lower positioned player).

Not everyone shares your passion for this game, or takes it as seriously as you. That equates to "shortcomings"??

Anyway, thats my 2¢ on this, but I guess since I'm in next-to-last position its only worth 1¢.

Well, let's see......you called me a windbag once. OK, it's true, I'll give you that, but still.......

Actually, I had FS in mind when I wrote the above. Even though it was directed at MC, he's been a gentleman until recently when he basically gave up.

As far as hurling insults at DB, JG, et al....They're seldom in first place, so if you want to insult the big dog on any given day, you have to move quickly to get to one of them. :p

And I don't take this game any more seriously or treat it with any more passion than DB or JG does. I'm just a little bit better at it.

It's lonely at the top.

OMG, KC already scored 3 runs and the second game just started!

[/b][/quote]Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

A wise man sees it all.

There is a difference between trash talking fun and mean spirted remarks.

I resemble that remark.

I never say anything "mean spirited".

Unless it's to you :p

As far as hurling insults at DB, JG, et al....They're seldom in first place, so if you want to insult the big dog on any given day, you have to move quickly to get to one of them. :p
 Come on, you know the real reason, but you keep telling yourself that this is the reason. spin it around and you will feel better about yourself.

Stop kidding yourself! There is a great difference between playing a game and being arrogant.

For as good as you are in this game, you lack good sportsmenship for ALL your fellow players not just DB or JG.
In fact, many times you make the game less fun to be in. Some of us have no problem being near the bottom of the ranks and STILL having a great time playing. BUT you do. Maybe we handle life better at our age. Shit, it must be tuff to get old and cranky. Lighten up we are people too.

Maybe if you let the hot air out of yourself, you may just come down here from the clouds and be with the rest of us and join the REAL party.

Hey Bethie, Thanks for the heads up during the week. I really do appreciate it. It has been a busy time in so many ways here.

MY tag line says it all Plawrence,
You know what I find hard to believe, that at your age that you haven't figured out how to get more out of life instead of taking pot shots at those of us that are.
