A question of ethics.....

My discussion in a couple of the football threads yesterday with Buffy touchd on a few questions of ethics in poker playing as well as fantasy sports, the desire to win at all costs, etc.....

So here's the question:

I am fairly certain that in last years fantasy baseball game you were able to see the transaction logs of the other players. I remember that, because one of my discussions with FS prompted me to look at everyone's to see if there was a correlation between a person's score and their number of transactions (there was, BTW. More transactions generally led to a higher score).

Anyway, this year only your own transaction log is viewable and you cannot see it for the other players.

However.....

If it was, and given the following circumstances

1) That it is an advantage for the person in first place to know the picks of the person in second place before making his own selections.

2) That there was a doubleheader originally scheduled yesterday (Tuesday), and it's quite possible that DB made his selections on that basis early Monday and then changed them later in the day.

3) That all of those transactions by DB would have been visible yesterday, and I could have had a pretty good idea of what his team would look like today, when the same doubleheader is scheduled.

Of course, I'd be gambling that he was aware of this and might deliberately change his team from his original DH selections, seeking to throw me off the track, but the question is:

Would it have been unethical for me to look?

I say "No", for the following reasons:

I usually make my picks arounf 8:00 or 9:00 PM, after I check the weather in the East and Midwest.
Someone who makes their picks earlier assumes the risk that something like this could happen (altho this was a highly unusual, and perhaps unprecedented occurance).

Also, another player's transaction log is public information and therefore a legitimate research tool.

Yeah, I know. I'm the only one who's mind works like that, I'm the only one who thinks like that, I take this all too seriously, yada yada yada.

"Difficult....not impossible"
