Just watched the GF1 DVD with FFC's commentary w/ subtitles turned on...

Here are my notes...

> "two gabbagool, gabagol and a proscuitto"
> Luca shown practicing his lines was actually filmed after the main scene where he messed up. He couldn't do a good take, so FFC showed him practicing to explain it, and make it comical. Previously, it was said that his practicing was real and caught on film.
> Woltz' mansion was filmed in LA
> The horse's head was obtained from a dog food company. Eww. Dogs eat horse!?
> Day 1 of shooting was outside Best & Co. and Polk Hobby Shop. Day 3-4 was the Sollozzo/McClusky murder scene. Day 5 were some exteriors at the hospital. Many of the exterior hospital scenes were actually shot in LA later. Most of the film was shot in NY.
> Vito leaves the office at 4:30, the day he gets shot.
> Vito asks for 3 oranges, but gets only 2.
> Sonny writes "8:30" on the kitchen cabinet.
> Castellano wasn't in GF2 because he wanted a private writer for his lines (?!!)
> "Paulie, I want you to go down 39th Street. Colosanto's." (Gotta look that up)
> The [A] sicker on Clemenza's car was a WWII gas-rationing coupon.
> The "we can't wait" speech was at 7pm.
> FFC's father, Carmine, played "This Lonliness" on the piano during the matresses sequence. He was a major composer for the films.
> "Vaffanculo"
> The boy on the bike in New England says "Hi Miss Adams!"
> The New England scene was filmed A YEAR LATER!

Those're my notes. FFC's commentary was good, but much was repetitious from other sources. It's mosty about shooting the film; it'd've been nice if he included trivia and goofs and such as well...

Tomorrow - GF2... grin

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

I liked him relelling his past stories, but for a few of the great scenes of The Godfather I wish he would of talked about them more.Very good though.

The "new England scene" was actually filmed in Calfornia Yes that's right, it is the very last scene to be filmed.

GF III michael sobbing at Tommansino's casket is the last to be filmed only 2 months before the theorical release

Don,

What about FFC revealing that when Tom and Woltz are walking around outside in Woltz's LA mansion - they had doubles to stand in to film that section in LA - and Tom and Woltz filmed the horse scene in NY.

I actually wacthed it in Slow Motion last night - and you can actually tell that it's not them!!

Isn't it weird, that you watch a movie thousands of times - and each time you watch it you learn somehting new??

FFC says in the commentary that the film was made in 62 days on a 6.5 million dollar budget.

WOW!

The fact that he was able to capture so much emotion and so much detail in that movie is incredible - and to do it in 62 days!! My hat goes off to FFC!!

I loved the personal touches FFC made - such as including the bottle of Annisete in the Solozzo meeting the Don scene, and the scene where Tom, Sonny and the Don discuss Solozzo and the possibility of entering the drug market.

Complimenti a tutti quanti!!
Great Commentary by FFC!!

I cannot wait for the trilogy to come out on DVD!!

- What about a book, or autographed card in the next DVD collection??
