No excuses. I f***ed up.

When I got home, I even checked the baseball scores real quick. When I saw the zero next to DB's Andruw Jones, I just figured he sat. A rainout never even occured to me.

What also kills me is that I cracked the top 100 again on the leaderboard (#98), and I'm only 40 something points out of 50th.

Of course, that could work both ways. Assuming that most people above me have the Atlanta PS, a big day by the Mets offense could help me there and against DB.

Trouble is, the Mets don't really have an offense.....

Good Morning All!

How is everyone this morning?

Had bowling last night. I had one of the best nights that I can remember. I had a 225, 256, 244 for a total of 725. A guy a few lanes over also thru a seven hundred series, but he did better as One of his games was a 300!

You all have a good day now.....

Picking that DH was tough because of what Plaw said - I don't see any of the players on either the Braves or the Mutts (at least the players that we care about) playing both games.

Here's hoping...

Sorry to hear about your car trouble, plaw. There is nothing more aggravating (and yet inconsequential) than having car trouble.

Also... excellent scores, FS.

Thanks for the kind words, DB.

We'll see how inconsequential it is after the DH is over.

I'm a man of routine. A creature of habit. I pick my team in the daytime, just in case I have a problem with my computer later, or something else comes up.

I check the scores after dinner, and before I go to bed. I also check for rainouts, and do any last minute tweaking that might be necessary. I'm usually asleep by 9:30 or so, and I usually wake up between 1:00 and 2:00, when I check the scores again, and, if I remember, check to see if any of my players got injured that night.

But, disrupt my routine, and I get all f***ed up. Like last night. I was so pissed that I wasn't thinking straight. I was focused only on the football game.

So, DB, if I said I'll give you 30 points right now, and tonight's games don't count, would you take it?

Fathersson, all of these 300's and 700's mean A LOT less than they did when everyone was throwing danger zones and quantams. I could go to any lane in a house and as long as I have the right equipmemnt I can shoot 700. Technology has ruined the game.

Hey, I was a strike away from throwing a 900 series once......then the damned cat jumped on my head and woke me up.

Seriously though, I once threw a 696 in league bowling (with a 244 in my practice game). I couldn't do ANYTHING wrong that night, but a 700 is quite an accomplishment.

I used to bowl with Mark Roth (since grade school) and he'd pound out 750's regularly (long before turning pro).

Good going, FS.

Yes, DMC it sounds like you know alot about bowling. Almost as much as NASCAR. Do they have good bowling lanes in PA? I would love to Bowl with you sometime. It would be a honor to watch a man of your skill bowl that well, that often

Small world SC, Mark Roth and my dad have eatten together years ago. Pop also had a friend who ran on the tour for a few years. Not a super big name as Mark, but it did give him the chance to hang out and meet so many of the greats back then. The tour did stop here in Syracuse for a number of years and Don (my dads childhood friend) and his traveling roomate back then would stay at our home while here. It saved them some money that week on the road and they enjoyed a home vs a hotel.

I used to bowl in High School, but I never got my average above about 165 or so. My all-time high game is only 233.

Bowling was a sports staple in TV's early days. Cheap to produce I guess.

The old-timers here will remember guys like Ray Bluth, Don Carter, and Ed Lubanski.

The thing that always fascinated me about bowling was that there was no other professional sport in which, even on my best day, I could out-perform a pro.

But even with my crappy 165 average, let me bowl 100 games against the best bowler in the world, and I bet I'd beat him once or twice.

Do you remember an old tv show called "Make That Spare"? It was a 10 minute show on Friday nights just before 11:00 p.m. and was televised from Neptune Lanes (where Emmons Avenue becomes Neptune Avenue). They had 2 lanes set aside for the show, and the gutters were painted black. The premise of the show was for a bowler to try to make different spares (ie. the 7-10 split), and if he was successful he'd win $10 (or something like that).

Andy Varippapa used to appear on the show occasionally.

Welcome to the GBB Fantasy Bowling Thread!

I enjoy bowling, I have my own shoes and ball, but I wouldn't say I'm very good. I average around 140 (that's with bowling maybe, around, 9 games a year - on a good year).

My best is 181, I think.

Sure!

Andy Varipappa was the short guy with the kinky hair who used to make those trick shots, right?

It used to be on Friday nights, after Gilette's "The ...Fight...Of...The...Week". That show started at 10:00, but a ten round fight with a minute in between each round usually ended around 10:45 or 10:50 or so.

The winner got to go for the "Big Prize" spare, the 3-4-7-10.

I didn't know it was done at Neptune Lanes, though.

Memories......

I guess you lucked out a bit, concerning those not playing both games. I, too, figured many wouldn't (not THIS many, tho!) but figured what the hell. I figured everyone would pick everyone as well, so no loss, no foul. You and others who didn't load up on DH offense may pick up some points... But I still prefer to start a game with 18 PS pts than 0

And as for not putting last night's scores up, it was already after 3AM so didn't have them available. :p

Atlanta is carrying 17 position players, so with everything clinched it would have been strictly guess work for me as to who would have played both games.

As it turns out, DeRosa didn't get a start, so Chipper is playing both games at 3B, and Thomas both in the OF.

With Hidalgo, Cameron, and Floyd all out, and the Mets with only six outfielders, Diaz, Valent, and G. Williams pretty much had to play two. I don't think ESPN is even listing Diaz, and I probably would have gambled that A. Jones would start both games and taken him over Williams.

Who knows?

But I absolutely would have had Atlanta's PS. I wasn't kidding when I offered DB 30 points and tonight's scores wouldn't count.

Meanwhile, Wright just got hit on the leg with a line drive, and left the game in the third.

Aaargh....

The whole day wouldn't have been so bad with a decent 15-20 from Oakland's PS.

Kills my chances to crack the top fifty, though.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day.....
