Four weeks left. No, wait. Make that four days.

And yes, you are leading the Pigskin Pick 'Em game, altho it's still early.

And yes, you did win it last year. And no one can ever take that away from you.

No one. Ever.

Thanks. I was almost afraid to go with them thinking that Toronto could have had a big night, but I was more tempted to make the pick figuring YOU wouldn't and I'd gain some ground on ya. I think it did decide the race. There's only one scenario that it couldn't have decided the race.

I win big - I live to fight another day. Race still not decided.

You win big - Race decided. Not enough days.

We score about the same - Race decided. Not enough days.

I still consider you very much alive, especially with today's PS matchup.

Hell, with these two staffs anything can happen.

That notwithstanding, eradicating a 60+ point lead with four days to go is certainly within the realm oif possibility.

Just look at the last four days of the first half... :p

True, those last days did have huge swings - but if I was playing conventionally (not in "Unpredictable" mode), it would have been closer.

Yes, one of the things that has changed this last week or ten days is that teams that have clinched or are getting ready for the playoffs may rest up players and give the bench more playing time.

So was today's Detroit pick "unpredictable"?

I figured, when in doubt go with the home team and at least be sure of starting off with the +54.

You know, it looks like it is an unpredictable pick but it's weird... Detroit and Tampa are practically the same team - similar overall records, similar home and away records - the pitchers today were even similar.

Looking at the line-up, top to bottom, I found that I wanted more Detroit offense than TB offense, so I went with the Detroit PS.

That's funny, 'cause the same thing kind of happened to me.

I decided on the Tampa PS, then when I did my offense, I found that I had 5 guys from Detroit and only 2 from TB, so I switched Monroe for Crawford.

I think I'm gonna regret taking Higginson, though. I shoulda taken Cruz also

The game is easy. Pick a pitching staff, then use your remaining cap room on offense.

Yeah, there are a few finer points to the game also, but the hard part is, like in the real baseball season, showing up every day ready to play, picking a team, and not missing any doubleheaders.

It amazes me that DB, JG, and myself have played this game since the beginning of last season, so we're talking about 360 days apiece, times three guys, or about 1080 days of playing.

And out of 1080 days, I don't think that one of us has missed changing their team every day even once.

Here are the supposed first game lineups:

Detroit:

Infante ss
Higginson rf
Rodriguez c
Young dh
Pena 1b
Monroe lf
Inge 3b
Smith 2b
Granderson cf

Tampa Bay:

Crawford cf
Lugo ss
Huff 1b
Martinez dh
Cummings lf
Cruz Jr. rf
Cantu 2b
Fordyce c
Upton 3b

Looks like everyone's picks are playing except Baldelli, and since FS & SC are the only two to have him.....

I missed once last year. Picked Colorado at Colorado one day (Chacon was pitching - hey, he was good last year ). I couldn't get to my computer the next day (effectively letting my team ride) and it turned out that the next day was a Colorado doubleheader that EVERYONE avoided. I would have avoided it also if I got to my computer. Of course, it turned out for the worst with KC sweeping Colorado - lots of earned runs to boot.

The things I remember...

I remember that, now that you mention it.

So we missed once out of 1080.

Should we count the day that Pork was over the cap?

Yes, but you change your underware? (ok, underwear)

That is so true. You have to be willing to do this EVERY FRICKEN day of the season. Don't let anyone bullshit you either. You really have to spend some time on it also. Even if you do know alot about baseball. So many things change everyday. Matchups, injuries, weather, away or home, left handers, right handers, switch hitters, who is mad at who, who is having a baby, a breakup with their wife or lover, who wants a new contract and who has a bug up their ass or a boo boo on their little finger. Who like to play with who, will the weather blow over or stall, can you believe the site and who will change the pitching staff around, or the batting order, or who may have gotten hurt during the late night game on the other coast after you went to bed.

Hell you have to give up so much to be on top of this game. You have to give up your friends, your hobbies, your favorite TV shows, your extra hours of sleep and maybe even your lover. ARE YOU READY FOR ALL OF THAT! ARE YOU REALLY READY!

if so, we will see you next season then!
