Well, DB, my Most Worthy Adversary, here we go.... I chose a pitching staff yesterday and tailored my offense around it. You went "counter" to the accepted wisdom, selected an offense, and then picked your PS based on that. Good thing for me that TB scored those three runs in the bottom of the 8th and pulled out the second game win, otherwise you'd probably be sitting at the top of the pile this morning. If you wind up losing this thing by less than 15 or so, we'll be able to point to that half-inning as the key to the whole second half. You clobbered me twice in the last three days to get right back in this thing, and I'm looking forward to an exciting finish. Maybe we'll finally get one of those "It will come down to the very last day" deals. I'd love to look at our whole history and figure out how many three day periods there were when you beat me by more than 16 points, but that's probably a full day's work and, sadly, I won't have the time. So, here's to 'ya, MWA . I'd say "May the best man win", but as I said at the end of the first half, who wins proves nothing, as we seem to be incredibly evenly matched. Now, we each have three opportunities left and I predict that the winner will be whoever has the highest diaily score the next 3 days, or the loser will be whoever has the lowest. In other words, one of us will put it away with a really good day, or one of us will blow it with a really bad one. Which? And who? Tune in Sunday night, sports fans.

10 Things I Think I Think (ala Peter King) 1 - Suddenly the Baltimore-Boston matchup becomes very important today. You got some pretty big guns playing in that game today, plaw - Mora, Tejada, and Gibbons to boot. 2 - Picking last night's offense was painful. 3 - Top 4 has jumped on the Mirabelli train. SC picked Varitek. (very quietly to SC "Wakefield is pitching today." ) 4 - The last few days have been, in a word, interesting. 5 - If I do lose this game by 15 points or less, there's a lot more we can point to than just that half inning, plaw. 6 - The Cubs still stink. 7 - Congrats SC on your ascension to 5th place. 8 - Houston game is also very important. Biggio/Kent vs. Beltran/Ensberg. 9 - I must have missed the memo on Mora today. 10 - Well, Plaw, it's come down to this. After my performance the last couple of weeks, I wouldn't be underestimating when I say that I am totally shocked to be even in this position. Shoot, I was buying your champagne for you. In any case, here we are. May the best man of the next three days win.

Damn, I wonder* if I can finish Round 2 at the 99th percentile... I'm at 98.4 going into today. I finished Round 1 at 99.3 %ile. Oh wait. I thought I was doing worse than last year but I guess not. Last year I was 97.6/96.4 %ile. Never mind. Anyway... *Damn, I didn't even notice that Peavy was pitching tonight -- against Arizona yet. What a lock that is! And here I am stuck with Lopez from the zer-O's against Boston?? WTF was I thinking??!

Well DB, my MWA, we both live to fight another day. We both escaped with horrible performances from our offense, as. neither one of us had a homer between 14 diferent offensive players or a total higher than 5.
I figure that going into yesterday your chances of winning the whole thing were on the high side of 35-40%, and have now dropped to the low side of 30-35%.
But I'll tell 'ya.....
Man, am I glad that you took the Balt PS. I agonized of the Ariz-Balt choice for a while, and finally figured that you would take Balt, since the upside was greater than that for Ariz.
Regarding today's matchups.....
Roberts vs. Walker: I figure I have the edge since Roberts has at least a chance to play two, and if Roberts plays one, it's pretty much a toss-up
Bigbie vs. G. Williams: See above, but if Bigbie only plays one, I think I have a slight edge.
Anderson vs. Damon: I figure if there's one guy that's not gonna play two it's Damon, since Boston has a legit back-up in CF (Roberts). But if Damon does play two, then, obviously, you have a big edge.
Gibbons vs. Nixon: A toss-up, except I think Gibbons has the better chance of playing both. He's been playing RF, DH, and filling in for Palmiero (the old man who might not play both games) at 1B.
Pickering vs. Ortiz: Big edge for you, even if Ortiz only plays one. And If he plays both and has a good day, it could be a difference-maker.

I'm glad you took the Balt pitching staff as well. I would be a lot more comfortable having this thing decided over a span of 9 picks instead of 1 (and since you've been killing everyone based on that 1 pick). Roberts vs. Walker - That's if Walker even plays... Bigbie vs. Williams - See comment on Walker... Anderson vs. Damon - Play two, Captain Caveman! Gibbons vs. Nixon - I think Nixon has a good chance of playing 2. He's not one of their "big" starters, so he'll find a way to fill in one of the positions after the superstars sit. Pickering vs. Ortiz - It might come down to this one. ONE DAY LEFT!

No Nixon the first game. I think a man belongs with his wife when she's just had a baby. Especially if the games are meaningless. They should let him stay at the hospital. No Ortiz the first game, either

Why'd you guys pick Balt PS again? 5.9% took Boston 0.7% took Baltimore Funny... with my Boston PS, I only have 3 Boston offensive players -- and not one is playing the first game! (Nor did I get the memo on Nixon trotting home  ) And only Tejada has given me a point from my 4 O's guys. Looks like 3rd Place may just be determined tomorrow as well!

[whine alert]
Bottom of the 9th for Baltimore. First & third, nobody out.
My three guys coming up: Gibbons, Bigbie, Roberts.
OH boy! Here come some points! Extra innings, maybe, and a few more ABs for my guys.
So they all strike out.
