does anyone know what happened in the minnesota vs Cleveland game I can't find any information on it. After Morneau grounds out in the bottom of the 11th there is nothing else.

The game was suspended because The University of Minnesota has a football scheduled for later and they had to clear the place out and get the field ready.

So they all strike out.

Oh, quit your bitchin'! As soon as I heard that Fuck (errr, I mean Foulke) came in to pitch I KNEW there'd be trouble. Sure enough, he immediately gives up a double and a single..... the fact that the next three batters struck out is a miracle.

stupid question alert:

Since you all know I have problems with the inning rule ...does a pitcher have to pitch a certain amount of innings to get a loss??

Well, that was a stupid question. I will give you that. Thanks for the alert.

Short (two word) answer: Um, no.

Longer answer: As long as he faces at least one batter, and leaves the game trailing, and his team never ties the game or takes the lead, a pitcher can be charged with the loss.

He can walk the first batter of the first inning, be removed, and if that guys scores, the run is charged to him.

If the relief pitchers goes on to give up 9 more runs, and the score is 10-0, and the losing team comes back to make the final score 10-9, the first pitcher who only faced one batter and was charged with only one run is still the losing pitcher.

Are you sure about that?

That would not be true if the SP was lifted for an injury after walking the first batter. Even if he was charged for the one earned run, if the next pitcher gives up 15 ERs, I'm certain the reliever would get the loss, not the starter.

But, I'm too tired and lazy to look that up right now.

Why, simply cuz the home team is guaranteed to pitch 9 innings instead of 8?

Well, there aren't too many things I would bet my life on, but I'm pretty certain about that.

I don't think injury has anything to do with it.

If the starter allows the first batter to reach base and then leaves the because of an injury, and his team goes on to lose 15-0, the starter is still the loser.

If a SP leaves a game with his team trailing, regardless of when, and his team never ties the score or goes ahead, the SP is the losing pitcher.

The official scorer does, however, have the option of awarding a win at his discretion, though.

Let's say the home is trailing 2-0 after three innings. A relief pitcher comes in in the 4th, and gives up 3 more runs, so it's now 5-0 going to the bottom of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 4th, the home team pinch hits for the reliever, scores 6 runs, and takes the lead, 6-5.

Those 6 runs belong to the relief pitcher, and if the home team goes on to win without ever giving up the lead, he is technically entitled to the win.

But if a second reliever comes in and finishes the game, and shuts out the visiting team for the 5th thru the 9th, or pitches 2 or 3 shutout innings or allows only one or two runs, the official scorer may, at his discretion, award the win to the second reliever because the first one did not pitch effectively, even though he left the game on the winning side of the ledger.

1) Pedro Astacio. He did get rocked early.
2) The games meant more to Balt than to Bost
3) It was still a close call, so Balt being the home team was a factor
4) I figured that since that was what I figured, that was what DB would figure, so he would take Balt, so I would too.

Umm... How??

O's are out of it, doesn't mean shit to them. Not one game meant shit to them all season!

Of course, Boston was gonna rest some guys cuz for them it didn't mean anything - for real. That's what made picking Sox offense so tough, cuz hardly any were destined to play two games. Hell, even O's were gonna get some rookies some at-bats...

This late in the season, if October isn't in the team's future, it's all a matter of getting the rookies some work. And for October teams, that AND keeping the regulars sharp; and, not wearing out your good pitchers.

But, to actually pick the O's PS over Boston, to me -- even on the road -- was kinda crazy.

So maybe that's why I'm always 3rd... I'm not crazy enough!

All I know is, I should've taken The Big Unit tonight. (1 ER out of 6?!!) Two more PS points than Boston's TWO games combined... but more importantly, I would've had more $ for offense.

Damn.

Yes, a couple of us thought that way. I would have went for Boston but changed my mind to the Big Unit and taking some extra $$ for offense.
Still SC pulled his size out and stayed ahead of my. THank God he is ahead of me, with that size I wouldn't want him behind me!

DMC - I didn't check the offical box score, so I don't know for sure right now... The only thing I know for sure is, yeah, you're dead last!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

I just went through the recap of it and it was because of a throwing error. that was weird that they gave the earned runs then took them away though.

If I come in first for this weeks scores it will be my own personal victory lol

Loretta got on w a throwing error with one out and went all the way to 3rd. He scored on a single by Rich Aurilia. That run was unearned (since he got on by an error)... then another single followed by Nevin. Then Ojeda followed with a fielders choice ground out. That should of been the third out and every run that scores after that are unearned.

After reading thru the play-by-play, it looks like 1 ER to me. MAYBE 2 ERs at the most (it does get confusing sometimes).

Ojeda's homer in the 8th is obvious. (That name sounds familiar )

But the 4th inning is such:

SAN DIEGO 4TH
-F Guzman flied out to center.
-M Loretta safe at third on throwing error by shortstop J Gil.
-R Aurilia singled to center, M Loretta scored.
-P Nevin singled to left, R Aurilia to second.
-M Ojeda grounded into fielder's choice to third, P Nevin out at second, R Aurilia to third.
-X Nady reached on infield single to third, R Aurilia scored, M Ojeda to second.
-J Payton singled to right, M Ojeda scored, X Nady to third.
-A Gonzalez tripled to deep right center, X Nady and J Payton scored.
-B Sweeney grounded out to third.

5 runs, 5 hits, 1 error
San Diego 5, Arizona 0

TO ME, that was a terrible inning. While, personally, I see the first run being unearned; I wouldn't be all that surprised if they rule the subsequent runs earned after all those hits.

We'll see for sure tomorrow. But yeah, FS sounds right (for once)
