Welcome to the 2004-2005 Gangster BB Yahoo Fantasy Football League! The league is free, will be Head-to-Head with a live online draft on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:45 PM Eastern (good date - it's before the season starts yet we know who is injured or not).

It is on Yahoo, so you have to get a Yahoo ID and password before joining.

To get to the league, click on:
Yahoo Football League

Go to "Join a Custom League".

League ID #: 432030
League Password: corleone

The settings/point system is currently on default and I'll let you know if I make any changes.

The league will have 12 spots - first come, first serve. Anybody can join (even those already in "other" leagues! ;\) )

If you got any questions, post or PM me. \:\)

I posted this on the Yahoo board:

Here're my 2 cents...

Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (-1)

Missing an easy one should cost you, not missing a diffult one. How about something like this:

Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (0)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (0)

...MAYBE also Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-1)... but the rest should be zero I think.

As for Points Allowed:

Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

I don't think that's enough points taken away for shitty games, and too many given for good games (tho a lot for a shut-out I like):

How about something like this:

Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (4)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (2)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (0)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-2)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-5)

Just my opinion, tho I could be right The rest looked okay to be at quick glance. We should get more input from the others...

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

I'm very interested, but I'll be at practice while the draft is going on. Is there anything I can do?

Rank your players before the draft (there is a link, I did it too just in case) and it will pick the highest rater player available for each round by default. The only bad thing about this is that if there is a *better* player available than the one you have ranked, the one you have ranked will be selected.

Question: What is happening with Jamal Lewis? Wasn't he indicted on pot or something and with the NFL drug rules? Is he going to play or not? Probably would be a good choice to move him down if he isn't going to play, but I don't know :p

In your case what we need first is a note from your girlfriend letting us know you can play. :p

And Turi - you wanker, that is what is known over here in the States as talking some smack. This 'stick' stuff you talk about - nobody knows what the hell you mean.

The pre-ranking shit is stupid this year. I did a live draft already for Yahoo, but it's really dumb this year. If you pre-rank and show up for the draft, you aren't allowed to view your pre-ranks. The only good thing they have this year with the live draft is that they list when each player has a bye week. -Pat

Probably good idea then for us all to print out hard copies of our pre-ranks

Like you hadda ask... :p

I think an interception or a fumble lost should be worth half of a touchdown, since it either deprives the offensive team of a good scoring opportunity, or sets up the defensive team with good field postion.

I'd make each of those worth -3 instead of -2.

I agree with JG about the missed FG's. I'd even go further.

Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-3)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-3)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (-2)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (0)

Given the efficiency of pro kickers, missing one under 29 yards almost always costs their team 3 points, so the penalty for missing one should be the same.

The other negative values reflect the opposite of what I would think the positive expectancy would be for an attempt of that length (I know I didn't put that exactly right, but I'm sure you know what I mean )

As far as points allowed goes....

Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

I'm thinking in terms of how many points a defense allows which really puts their team in a good position to win, and how many they allow which will make it almost impossibe for their team to win.

I'm also keeping in mind that in these kinds of games, the offense is a lot more important than the defense.

That said, I'd go with the following, altho what it really comes down to is "how important do you want to make defense in this league?"

Her's how I figured it:

The maximunm number of points should be 14.

At each level, I estimated what percentage chance the team had of winning the game if their defense allowed that many points, and assigned that value, as a percentage, or close to it, of 14.

Once the defense gives their team less than a 50% chance of winning, the point value should be negative.

Code:
            Percentage
Points Chance of
Allowed Winning Value
-
   0 100% 14
  0-6 95% 13
   7 90% 12
  8-10 85% 11
  9-12 75% 10
 13-16 70% 9
 17-20 60% 8
  21 50% 0
 22-24 30% -4
 25-27 15% -8
 28-31 10% -12
 32-34 5% -13
  35+ 0% -14
OK.

First of all, I understand that this system places more importance on defense than these games usually do.

I also realize that my percentage chances of winning are not necessarily accurate, but merely guesses on my part, and that the point values do not exactly correlate to the chances of winning percentages.

Maybe you want to tweak this a bit, or a lot. You could collapse the values from +/- 14 down to +/- 10, for example. Or increase the increments.

But I definitely think that when a defense gives their team a great chance to win they should be properly rewarded, and when they give their team little or no chance to win they should be properly penalized.

All points taken. I'll wait for a few more comments, before I make my last changes.

Also, plaw made a good comment on the posting. I expect we're going to have a lot of stick, ummm I mean trash talking, around here so lets try to keep it here on the GBB. If anything, we can use the barf emoticon here that JG likes to use for his constant third place finishes. :p

Freddie C - Pre-rank your players. You'll just be on auto-draft, but if you pre-ranked, then the computer will just pick the best available on your list.

Double-J - When you have player questions (e.g. Jamal Lewis question), make sure you ask Plaw directly. He loves answering strategy questions. :p Take into account that he finished dead-last last year.

BDD (Formerly My #1 Fan) - Mandatory THIS! :p

As long as the scoring MAKES SENSE, it doesn't matter. It makes sense to add points for a good thing, and deduct points for a bad thing. That's the important thing.

How MANY points isn't as crucial, as we're all in the same boat. But hey, I'm not the commish. I suggest you consult w/ last year's commish (from whom you've usurped power this year :p )

You guys didn't know I was a power-hungry fiend??

Haha. I've been in discussion with last year's commish about my reasons for starting this (supposed to be) 2nd league and I fully expect him to join us as soon as he sacs up and asks for permission from his Filly from Philly to join a 2nd league. :p
