Well done Skipper. I saw the Broncos game and Plummer was killing me. The Falcons had a great lead but Plummer still had to put up big numbers and score.

Man I left a lot of points on the bench. How was I to know the Steelers were really going to get it done defensively against the Pats?

Right, it's DJ next week. No more errors, no more byes and more importantly no more Jamal suspension when they have Cleveland (forget that Cleveland limited him to under 60yds last game) he's going to torch them.

Commissioner Douchebag, Sir.

If at the end of the year two teams are tied in W-L and Team A has 500 points and Team B has 450 points BUT during the year Team B beat Team A.

I assume the first tiebreaker off of the W-L record is Head to Head, followed by points.

Is that right ?

According to the Yahoo rules, here's the tie break system:

Overall winning percentage.
Fantasy points scored.
Fantasy points scored in Week 17.
Fantasy points scored in Week 16.
Fantasy points scored in Week 15.
Fantasy points scored in Week 14.
Fantasy points scored in Week 13.
Fantasy points scored in Week 12.
Fantasy points scored in Week 11.
Fantasy points scored in Week 10.
Fantasy points scored in Week 9.
Fantasy points scored in Week 8.
Fantasy points scored in Week 7.
Fantasy points scored in Week 6.
Fantasy points scored in Week 5.
Fantasy points scored in Week 4.
Fantasy points scored in Week 3.
Fantasy points scored in Week 2.
Fantasy points scored in Week 1.
Random "coin flip"

It actually makes more sense to have it head-to-head first, but there's no way to change it on the system (that I know of, anyway).

Head to Head should defintely be the first tiebreaker - this is a head to head league not a points league. You are the Commissioner - at the end of the season if necessary just determine the order by head to head and those people will face each other.

It is possible that RB and I can tie - I could have more points than him - yet he can beat me twice and I would make the playoffs and he doesn't, yet he beat me twice. That's not right if something like that happens.

I have the uptmost faith that in the end you will make it right.

Of course if the scenerio I describe above does happen - that would be ok with me as long as I in fact make the playoffs. :p

Like I said before, although I agree with you - unless you know otherwise, I do not know how to change playoff matchups once the Yahoo system decides who is in the playoffs. Does anyone know how to change this on our league's page? My "Commission Tools" link certainly doesn't have this option.

Unless somebody has a good answer to this question, either we (i) go along with the system as is or (ii) have the matchups go offline.

I'll leave it up to everyone to decide.

My personal opinion is that unless we can change it on the system, we should leave it as is. We all signed up under these rules, we should play under them.

I agree. But who the hell am I to comment since I won't be in the playoffs anyway...

ALL PLAYERS PLEASE READ

Big Daddy and I have been going back and forth on the following situation.

The situation is as follows:

Two teams tie for the 4th best record (let's say BD and PL since they are in 4th and 5th place). BD beat PL in their head-to-head matchup, but PL has accumulated more points throughout the season.

Who goes into the playoffs with the 4th playoff spot?

According to Yahoo's rules, PL does since the first tiebreaker is overall points scored.

Big Daddy's argument - This is a Head-to-Head League, the head-to-head record should be more important than overall points scored - something I generally agree with.

Anyway, Big Daddy has been asking me to override the system and make Head-to-Head the first tie breaker.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Although I first thought that it couldn't be changed, I played around with the system a bit and I found a way to implement what Big Daddy is trying to say. It's a bit tricky and I don't know if it actually works, but I think it does. If you're interested on how I'll do this, let me know.

My opinion: Although I generally agree with Big Daddy, I wish this was brought up earlier before the season began. It's a bit trickier now since we've all been accumulating points and we can see who has more points than others. My thought is to leave it alone because we all signed up under these rules and have been playing under them since Week 1.

I disagree... Points are a good measuring tool to determine which teams make it to the post season. I would stick with that rule.

I hate to say it but I agree with BDD. Look how ties are agreed in the NFL. It's all to do with the divisional record first.

But I disagree with changing the rules halfway through the season.

I am not saying Commissioner DoucheBag needs to do more work or change any rules, my initial question was only to ask about the tiebreakers and throw my thoughts out there.

It might not be an issue at all but with some many teams bunched up now I will be surprised that at the end there is not a tie somewhere costing someone a playoff spot. It is a head to head league - your team is as good as their W-L record. That is why I thought the head to head would be factored into any tiebreakers. If points is first than this could have been a points only league - you submit your lineup and it only keeps a tally of points, meaning there is no schedule.

Again a real example is I play Turi twice this year. He beat me once already yet I have more points. If he beats me again and we end up with a tie record and I have more points - I would make the playoffs even though he beat me 2 times. I don't think that is right but if it is too late to change it is too late to change, I was only asking now before it gets too close and people vote based on where their team is.

The Slippery Slope
When we first started, if you recall, I said that I thought head-to-head should be the first tiebreaker, and if the two teams that needed to break a tie happened to have played each other twice and split their two games, then points scored in those two games only should break the tie.

It would be unlikely, I think, that we would need a tiebreaker past that, but if we did it could then be total points scored.

BUT....

After giving it some more thought, and seeing how much of this game is scheduling luck, in that

a) The schedule is unbalanced (some people play the weaker teams twice, some only once)
b) You can't play "defense" (i.e. you have no control over your opponents scores. You could have the second highest score in the league for the week, good enough to beat the 10 other teams, but just happen to be playing the one team that had the higher score)
c) Who plays who in the various bye weeks (Examples: I play a weak team on Culpepper's bye week and still win but would have lost to a stronger team, or lose a close game on Culpepper's bye week that I might have otherwise won, etc. -- There are many scenarios, but you get the idea)

That leads me to to conlcude that while a "head-to-head" game is more fun because of the trash talking opportunities it offers, total points scored is totally objective and really a much better way of gauging the relative strengths of the teams, since it is not subject to the luck factors involved in scheduling that a Won-Lost record is.

So, on that basis, I say leave it the way it is.

We should presume that the team with the higher total score is the better team, or at least the one with the better manager, regardless of the W-L record, which depends to a great extent on the luck of scheduling, who plays who on bye weeks, etc.

You got me early in the season - I was not on my game - I will be much better prepared for the second go'round.

Hey big game this weekend - Steelers vs. Eagles.

Steelers are tough but I think with their win over NE last week is good for Da Iggles. It will be tough for them to beat two good teams back to back BUT that's why they play the game. Should be a good one though, two good teams, the whole Duce story - Steelers trying to be take out for back to back weeks an undefeated team.

There's still some room left on the Eagles bandwagon though ......

Apparantly it's never been done before at this stage of the season. But so far a lot of records have changed this year, those in baseball and even the Washington link to the presidential race came to an end.

But I don't believe in things like that. Each game is independent of the next.

Did you see the preseason game between our teams? Duce is a class act and is still held with a lot of respect within the Eagle circles. I liked what he did with his touchdown ball giving it to an Eagle fan.

I think this should be a tougher game than last week. We haven't faced a team so far with an air combination as good as McNabb and TO. But watch out for some Joey Porter kicks.

I believe Duce gave the football to the little boy in the stands because his mother was smokin hot and Duce was looking to play 'stepdaddy' for a night while in Philly. :p

Tomorrow is my last ever game under the Friday night lights. ( Our last two are day games)

The team we play beat us last year 35-15. Two years ago they beat us 60-3. They are really big and really fast. They have the best WR in the league, whom I'll be covering. The kid runs a 4.3! I'm fast, but not that fast (4.6). I'm pretty worried about it.

I think points would be a good indicator - it shows whether you were able to put your best possible team on the field each week, regardless of your head-to-head record.

We lost last night 27-7.

Our defense could not stop the option. That's not my responsibility because I play pass first. From day one of camp, we've been told that on option, the DE has the QB and the OLB has the pitch man. But of course that didn't happen.

I called a fair catch on a punt, but the ref said he didn't see it. I got absolutely blown up.

Our record this season is 3-7 with two games left. The team is starting to break apart.

Ummm.... Pat? 4 guys on bye????

It's no fun for the rest of us if you can't finish what you started. It takes 3 seconds to make sure you have a full roster, even if you don't care who's on it or care about your score. The rest of us are still playing -- even me -- and it's not really fair.... :p

(How embarrassing it'll be if I lose, tho)

If a player gains yardage on a play, but it is then called back because of a penalty, will those yardage still count on that player's totals for the day?

Well, good - StatTracker now shows it correctly. It didn't before!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Yeah I had some players on a bye week. But I figured it would be kind of stupid/ plus fruitless to try and pick up a player here and there. That I'd probably only end up using once.

You just wait until next week, then I'll only lose by 50 instead of 70.

Those frozen wings better thaw out for my wrath next week! (Okay, that's the extent of my trash talk )
