Alert to the League

I wanted to alert the league on the Official Yahoo ruling on the Buffalo Punt Block for a TD. As you will read below, it counts as a TD for the Buffalo Defense because for Yahoo purposes, the return team is considered a defense until the ball crosses the line of scrimmage. Because the punt block (and subsequent recovery for a TD) was behind the line of scrimmage, the Buffalo Defense will get credit for the TD.

Because of this, FC wins his matchup against BD and moves on to the finals. I apologize to BD and FC for any confusion.

Yahoo Ruling on my Email

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Fantasy Sports.

The Buffalo Bills defense has been accurately credited with two touchdowns in Week 15. Scoring is correct on all team and league pages.

The first defensive touchdown was scored on a blocked punt. This touchdown was not reflected on StatTracker after games had been completed on Sunday.

Blocked punt returns for touchdowns are unique scoring situations in that both units are recognized as defensive units for fantasy scoring
purposes.

The kicking team is recognized as a defense because the purpose of that unit is to prevent the advance of the ball by the returning team (except in the case of a fake). The "return" team is recognized as a defense until a successful punt crosses the line of scrimmage.

Week 15 scoring is consistent with the scoring for all other blocked punt returns for touchdowns in 2004.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

Regards,

Lloyd
