In the Novel Micheal meets a woman(I can't remember who it was I think his Nanny), during his stay on Sicily. She tells him the story about Luca Brasi. Does anyone know why it isn't included in the film?

I have also found the song "Speak softly Love" and I wonder why it's with vocals, because there's no sung version of the Godfather's theme in the film. Can anyone explain that to me?

it is to tell you about the back history of Luca....she was a mid wife who helped with births.She tells Michael the true blaken history of how bad Luca really was.

But why isn't it in the film?

It's a very long film. Theres alot of things from the book that didn't make it into the film. Also many scenes were deleted to even shorten the film more.

I would have loved to have seen some more Luca and backround on him as he is my favourite character from both the book and film but unlucky for us his role is only short compared to the book.

Luca was the best thing since sliced bread or other sliced things.

Luca couldn't remember his few line...what would happen if he had pages and pages....They just wouldn't be over budget but over the time line....Years in the making..THE GODFATHER!

The sequence in the novel that you refer to builds up Michael's education into the ways of the Mafia during his Sicilian sojourn. Don Tomassino and Dr. Taza ply him with tales of the Honored Society during his long nights. Puzo conveniently introduces Filomena, the midwife who delivered Luca's illegitimate baby and who was then forced to throw it in the furnace, as a way of furthering Michael's education. First, Filomena's tale finally clues in Michael to a story that Hagent had told him he'd never hear until "you're a hundred." Second, Filomena expresses her gratitude to Don Corleone for interceding with Luca so she could escape to Sicily. FFC obviously was intent on treating Luca as a minor character, good mostly for the shock value of his death; and Michael's stay in Sicily only as a vehicle for meeting Apollonia and witnessing her assassination, not as a training camp for his future as a Mafia don.
