Looks like no Unit for Thursday "Unit scratched from first start Associated Press Posted: 3 hours ago TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Randy Johnson will miss his first scheduled spring training start with the Yankees on Thursday because of tightness in his left calf. The problem is not considered serious, and the left-hander is expected to be ready for what would have been his second start next Tuesday. "I'm not concerned about him ... not at all," Yankees owner George Steinbrenner said. "No. Joe (Torre, the manager) knows what he's doing, and Randy is a good man." Johnson first experienced tightness in the calf last week, and the injury reoccurred during fielding drills Monday. "This is not that big of a deal," Johnson said. "If they needed me to pitch, I could have." Torre said Tanyon Sturtze will replace Johhnson in Thursday' spring training opener with Pittsburgh. Johnson was scheduled Tuesday to throw off a bullpen mound, but played catched on flat ground instead. He also rode a stationary bike. "It doesn't concern our trainers," Torre said."

As long as were on the topic of MVP this year, allow me to toss up my nod for Matsui. Yes, I know I'm on a Matsui kick lately. But if he can continue being the RBI machine he was last year, even if Sheffield hits 40 HR's I still think Matsui has been *better* in the clutch at the plate. That could however be due to a plethora of factors: who the Yanks faced on the mound, Sheff's age/injury, etc.
---
As far as the Blowsox go, they earned the right to talk all the trash they want. The Yanks clubbed them in the preseason split-roster game the other day, and Giambi did very well. And as per the norm, the NY media has been trying to goad players into getting into a hissy-bitch fight with the Red Cocks, and the Yankee players aren't responding. They are there in FL to do one thing: play baseball to win the 2005 World Series.
---
Someone asked about the Tigers? I think they've made good improvements, especially by adding Maggy Ordonez, along with last years addition of Ivan Rodriguez. Percival and Urbina will look to be a solid tandem.
However, I think that Cleveland might be giving them a run for their money this year in the AL Central. The Sox are strong, but I don't think they could beat the Twins, who are likely to repeat their division-winning season last year, especially with that powerful outfield of theirs.

I mean he's right there with Sheffield and A-Rod but again, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Personally, I'd like to see Sheff walk away with it this year, but I wouldn't be upset to see Hideki get it either. He's a great player and truly a great role model for everyone! --- Originally posted by Double-J: As far as the Blowsox go, they earned the right to talk all the trash they want. How many times did the Yankees talk trash after winning 3 straight!? The case of the matter is that the Yankees are a classy team & organization and what happened to Boston last year was a fluke. The team and the organization are a bunch of f*ck ups and don't know how to run that team! They got LUCKY, and this year, they're luck will run out. You would not believe the amount of abuse I've taken since what happened last October (being a die-hard Yankees fan in Texas), but I take it all in stride and once the Yankees win it all this year, I'm going off the charts!
