In one deleted scene, just before Vito and the 3 sons go to Genco's death bed, there are some classic words between Mike and Vito
that say so much.
Mike is in uniform and covered in decorations.
Vito asks 'what's with all the Christmas decorations' and Mike replies 'for bravery'
Vito: "These miracles you perform for strangers"
I think it's a great scene because you can understand why Mike thinks Vito wants him in the family business and why Mike is so resistant. It
isn't until 1954 when Mike has taken charge that
Vito reveals "that I had a whole different destiny planned for you, Senator Corleone, Governor Corleone"
