All makes for better baseball, right?!

It was scary, yesterday, because a loss for us and a Philly win would've left us tied in the WC, but we ended up getting the opposite...it'll still be quite exciting!

Yankees won today, but so did Boston. That means they're still tied for first place!! This is going to be one heck of a week.

Gina, Sorry to hear that your 'Stros lost today. That really stinks.

SB, do you know that Derek Jeter is gonna be on 60 Minutes after the football game?

Definitely a tough loss, considering Philly won.

I was at my friend's house for her birthday party, and she let me check GameDay every so often. We all ended up watching the very end of it, all gathered around her computer - everyone was being so negative, predicting Ausmus and Bagwell to ground out or strike out or something, and I was going crazy...can't stand not being in my usual optimistic environment for a game.

I didn't. I was watching the West Wing season premiere. I love me some West Wing. Would have been a tough choice if I had known!

Flipping back between Godfather Saga and the Yankees game. Since the Ladies Thread was languishing at the bottom of the page, I thought I would take this opportunity to say that the Yankees are playing like poop right now and Boston already won their first of a double header, and this sucks.

Well, SB, Boston already lost, so even if y'all can't pull off a win tonight, you're still tied. It's still in your hands, and that's always a comforting thought!

The lovely Mets helped us out tonight by beating Philly, and we pulled off a great win against the Cards! That makes our magic number three! It's "Wild Card Week," and I'm praying!

It was reported that last night before the game Raffy "snuck" into the locker room, so to speak, to clean out his locker. He didn't speak to anyone, including teammates. I'm not sure if the locker room was vacant or not when he made his way in. Talk about a fall from grace.

Sicilian Babe, my daughter had a great time at the game last night. It was really a pitcher's dual last night. Of course, you know she was thrilled when Derek got the game winning RBI. She went with my brother in law, and I drive to work with my sister. She said my BIL said for all future games he's taking Nicole with him...hahaha. Her throat must be hoarse from all the screaming she did. My daughter and some other Yankee fans kept yelling "Go Yankees, go Yankees". My BIL just yelled back, "Yeah, go Yankees...the buses are waiting"..hahaha. My daughter text messaged a friend of hers to tell him she was at the game. Luck would have it he was at the game too...They're making plans to go to tonight's game too.

Oh, I'm sooooo jealous!! But glad to hear that she had a great time. It was an amazing game, wasn't it? And Boston lost!! Sorry, SC.

Gina, glad to see that your boys are keeping ahead in the Wild Card. This has got to be one of the most exciting last-week-of-the-season ever!!

Thanks, SB, but...

AGH! Sad loss tonight. You know, we scored our winning run last night against the Cards with Willy Taveras being sent home from first. The exact same set-up happened tonight, but with us behind 3-2, and our third base coach sent Gipson from first, but a perfect throw by Corey Patterson got the last out at home.

We've still got the magic number of two, and we're two ahead of Philly since they didn't play, but I hope we can buckle down and get it done. I'm sad that I'll miss the game tomorrow, because I have a football game for Band, but I'll have a radio, and I'll snatch anyone who has a cell phone for updates. We could clinch with a Philly loss and a win for us...I'd hate to miss it, but I'd be glad to have it! *praying*

Gina, I'll keep my fingers crossed for your boys, and I will give the mal'occhio to Philly, okay??

Tonight is the first of the Yankees Big Three against Boston. Wang v. Wells. I can't believe that the entire season is coming down to this weekend, and in Fenway no less. If they had only had their stuff together in June!!!

No love for The Orioles. My daugher goes to The Orioles/Yankess Game last night, all dressed in her Yankees attire. I guess The bird just realized this girl in her Derek Jeter jersey is from Baltimore.

Love that photo Beth!!!

As you know, I was quite pissed at the Yankee's loss last night, but have to keep the faith for today and tomorrow.

In honor of you I'll sing a song from my favorite band, Bon Jovi, "Keep the faith".

Great picture, Beth!

Congratulations to your boys, SB! A very hard-fought victory from throughout the season, wouldn't you say?

I think I completely understand all the playoff scenarios, now, thanks to this , and I believe it's the exact same set-up for us with the Phillies.

A special thanks to CS for being such a great sport.

Now, for the most important game of the season, on the very last day, because the Astros love to stress me out. I never wanted to assume they'd get it, and we've come close to completely blowing it, but I believe they can win it tomorrow. That's all we need. It's in our hands, and I have faith in my boys. But regardless, I'll be a nervous wreck tomorrow.

I still don't understand how they clinched the division. I had heard on the YES network that if they were tied with Boston, then there would a playoff game at Yankee Stadium on Monday. Then, all of a sudden, as long as they won yesterday, they won the division. Oh, well, as long as they won.

Thank you girls, for you kind thoughts. Btw, one of the best moments was when Joe Torre hugged Jeter after the game, and started to cry. He even said during his interview, "I can't even talk. I'm crying like a baby." That's one of the reasons I love Joe Torre.

Anyway, Gina, was I dreaming?? My husband had the news on last night, and I was half-asleep, but I thought I heard the announcer say that the Astros clinched the Wild Card.

SB, I thought I understood your Yankee situation until I tried to figure out how to explain it to you...then I realized I didn't know. I found this quote in another MLB article, and it seems to make sense:

Quote:
Yankees win the title
Saturday's win gave the Yankees a 10-8 edge in the head-to-head matchup, which is the first tiebreaker if the Red Sox were to win on Sunday. Since New York would finish with a 10-9 record against Boston in that scenario, both teams would have identical records with the Yankees winning on the first tiebreaker.

But more importantly, the Indians' loss prevented a potential three-way tie between New York, Boston and Cleveland, which would have set up a pair of one-game playoffs to decide the AL East and Wild Card winners.
So, from what I understand, even if Boston wins today and ties it up with NY, the Yanks are still awarded the division because of their season record against Boston. Boston then is fighting for their Wild Card spot against Cleveland.

As for us, you might've heard that we've clinched a Wild Card tie, because going into today, that's the worst we could do. It's the same situation as with Boston and Cleveland. If we lose, and Philly wins, we have a one-game playoff in Philly, but in any other situation, we'll clinch.

I'm praying...

Thank you, SB. Thanks, also, for all of the wonderful support this entire time here in the ladies' thread.

Well, we're even 1-1, as your boys were, going into tonight's game. I'm watching them, since mine don't play until tomorrow. It's still in reach for both of us, so let's keep the faith! I'll catch both Game 3 and 4 of the Astros, but if they have to play a Game 5, I'll either have to tape it or catch it on radio because of Band. I might go crazy.

Lost, lost, lost. Damn, was I mad!! They just mopped the floor with the Yankees last night. It was a horror. And they're rained out today. The only consolation is that Boston is out.

Sorry about the loss, SB. If anyone can come back, it's your boys, so keep the faith. I was looking forward to y'all's game today, too, but mine play at 7:00. I'm nervous but so excited!

DM, might you be talking about a certain woman named Trish? True, I invited you here, but it was only so you could talk about Willy and Jeter with me and SB. :p
