SB, I'm sorry. You know, I really wanted your boys to move on, because I hated to see good fans and people such as you and Geoff be disappointed, but they had a great season. They made quite a comeback, just like my Astros, so I definitely admire that. I'm sure they'll be back and ready next year. By the way, I've already started a countdown to Opening Day... To DM: Whoa, too many girly pictures! It's called the ladies' thread because it's for ladies, not of ladies. :p I thought you were just joining in for the chick chat.

What a tough loss. Poor Andy just couldn't hold off those Cardinal bats. We actually had the offense going the whole game, but we couldn't get on the board until the seventh (another homer by Burke!). I know that we could've won the games ourselves, and I hate to try to shift the blame, but the home plate umpire was terrible. I'd noticed him making some bad calls all throughout, giving Carpenter some calls that Andy definitely did not get - but, in the ninth, it was just disgusting. We actually got a rally going, on some hits and an error, scored another run, but both Jason Lane and Brad Ausmus were given at least two strike calls on obvious balls. There were several pitches that were low and outside/inside, just way outside the zone, and he called them strikes. As I said, we could've done something sooner, and it sounds dumb to try to blame it on a ump, but it's so frustrating to have a rally and possible comeback completely killed with such obvious bad calls by what should be a neutral person. Well, we'll come back fighting in Game 2, and I'll keep praying.

OK - no more jokes about Derek Jeter. Ladies' thread, ladies' rules... So before I get electroshocked for rule infringements, it is my understanding that I must post a male pic. So here is SB's Derek in one of the funnier skits in recent Saturday Night Live history. Enjoy! As described on CNNSI.com Date: Dec. 1, 2001 Site: NBC Studios, New York Setting: Saturday Night Live host The Play: As a ballplayer, Jeter is used to being on live television. But that's just it -- as a ballplayer. Jeter had to delve deep into his powers of clutchness to pull off a spotless appearance as host of Saturday Night Live, replete with opening monologue. The highlight was the skit "Baseball Wives," in which David Cone and David Wells (who played a pair of groupies) joined Jeter (as Candy Soriano) in full drag. Here's the best part, with Jeter making the punchline look as easy as a 6-3 putout: Candy Soriano: God, I know I shouldn't say this, but I think Tino Martinez is super-foxy, girl! Patrice Williams: I don't know ... his wife tells me there's not much to work with. Shanice Clemens: Y'all, Tino is teeny! Candy Soriano: I don't believe that, 'cause I've studied that bulge! Patrice Williams: You know, Jeter is the cute one, Jeter is where it's at! [ they all agree, except for Candy ] Candy Soriano: Mmm... no... Jeter does not do it for me. He looks like the Rock had sex with a muppet.

Gina - you doing anything strange to keep up the Lastros good luck through the playoffs? Yes. Sad, but true. Well, I've showered regularly, and I wear different clothes, but almost half of my wardrobe consists of Astros shirts! Okay, really, I've become very superstitious. I've come to realize that I laugh and joke about some of the stuff I "believe" in, but deep down, I really do let myself believe it works! - Whenever I can, I watch the games in my room, alone, and I especially don't allow my brother to watch with me. I believe he's a jinx when we're together, so we discuss the game during commercials. - I gave in to the Livestrong bracelet bandwagon, and I now have four Astros rubber bracelets. I loaned one to a friend for good luck, and I've worn the other three every playoff game day. One of them, I've worn since July 8th, and I've only taken it off for my Band performances because we're required to. (The Astros are 1-3, I think, on the days I've had to take it off - not a good sign!) My friend and I have decided that the Astros are more likely to win when she touches each bracelet that I have on, three times. And I have her do that...everyday. - During the games, I just have nervous rituals that I perform, believing it'll help them. I was such a wreck during the 18-inning clincher! I had to sit in the same position everytime the game was on, and I had to regain composure during commercials. I even created a prayer for when we were pitching - every pitch, I'd recite, "Just don't let them score a run," and then I'd give the current pitcher some words of encouragement. Another thing I do, when we're batting, is I "tell" each batter that we're playing "hot potato" with the outs, and he can't be the one to make an out. I think it's a nice way of keeping them on the ball but maintaining the fun, optimism of it. Okay, basically, I guess I just talk to the TV. I help manage and cheer the team from my house. What's killing me is that I'll miss tomorrow's game because we have a football game performance for Band. Luckily, there are plenty of Astros fans (and "fans") in the Band, including my director, so I'm sure I'll be getting score updates. I'll also have my radio with me, and I'm going to tape it in case I get to watch it later. Several times, I've taped a game and refused to find out the outcome until I could watch it, but I know someone will tell me ahead of time tomorrow, so I'm not going to try to avoid it. I'll just have to pray while I play (the clarinet).

Gina, Great stuff! It's worked for your boys, so keep it up!! And my brother is a METS fan , so I never, ever want to watch a game with him, although I have called him during several key games to gloat appropriately. And you're right. Jeter even looks hot as a woman. Check out those arms!! (swoon)
