Ooh, thanks for the recommendation, Zia!

And you're right...we better leave the real fantasy basketball talk to this thread. I know Plaw's prediction for me is probably right on target, but I want you to prove his chick theory wrong and create a "major upset" by making the top five!

I kept hearing that Fever Pitch wasn't very good, but I adore Jimmy Fallon, and I think that I'd enjoy any movie made about baseball, regardless of the reviews. Besides, I liked Major League, Rookie of the Year, etc...not sure if they got Oscars, but they're entertainment, right?

SB, I'm the same - I just can't get into football. Even basketball doesn't do it for me like baseball does, but I enjoy it more so than football. Baseball, though...baseball just has a certain magic to it.

Thanks for the "major upset" wishes, Gigi!! I'm hoping so too, but let's see what happens.

Before I saw it, I kept hearing that Fever Pitch was stupid too, and sure, it's not like on my top ten now or anything. But it was really cute, totally worth seeing, especially for any baseball fan! Let me know what you think if/when you see it.

And yeah guys, I can't get into football either, but... BUT!! David Carr is in this month's Esquire magazine, looking very hot indeed. I didn't know who he was, I didn't even know he was a football player until I read the caption... I thought he was a model! I recommend that you ladies flip through that magazine next time you're at the supermarket or bookstore or wherever they have it. Definitely worth a look. I can't find the pics online, or else I'd post them.

I'll definitely try to check out Fever Pitch.

Oh, Zia, David Carr is the reason to love football! Or at least the Texans... I never wanted to latch on to his bandwagon, but it's impossible not to. Remember that commercial I told you about? With him, Clemens, and Pettitte? Gorgeous! And Andy was so funny, because as he and Roger were plotting to tackle him, he says, "Look at him...Mr. Pretty Boy Quarterback."

And I just found the videos! Actually, they still don't have the one where they tackle him, but they do have the other one I love! Go here and click on "Over the Fence." "Sacks" is cute, too, and I hadn't even seen that one.

Those commercials are so fun!! David Carr looks even hotter when he's not completely still on a page.

Thanks for finding them, Gigi! Let me know if you ever find the tackle one too, that one sounds great.

Speaking of magazines, George Clooney is on the cover of Men's Vogue, which I didn't even know existed. Gosh, he looks great.

"Hey, Rog! Ah think ah lahst mah bahl.." He's such a Texan - and SO cute.

If you want to hear a big-time country accent, listen for a clip of Roy Oswalt sometime. He's from Mizz-iz-zippi, and it sure is obvious!

He sounds like his mouth is full or something. I love Texans, they're adorable.

So Gigi, you actually hear the accent and don't think it's just normal... so I'm assuming you don't have the same accent?

I always wonder why some people have an accent and others from the same place don't. I have cousins who were all born and raised in relatively the same area of New York, and some of them have major NY-sounding accents and some of them talk more like me. How does that work? SB, you're from there... do you know why some of you guys don't have the accent?

Wow, pretty off topic. But I'm curious. If anyone has any answers or similar observations, please confirm for me that I'm not crazy.

Ooh, good question.

I think I definitely have some kind of an accent, because I've had friends tell me that. If anything distinct, it'd definitely be Texan/country. I say "y'all" all the time, and I think nothing of it. I don't have a huge drawl like Oswalt does, but I probably have sounded like Andy at one point or another. I think it varies - like, sometimes it'll show up, then other times, it's just normal...if that makes sense. One of my good friends sounds more "country" than me, and all the time, so I'm always teasing her about it. And now that I've thought about this so much, I'm confused, because I can't really describe how I sound...and I'm not really sure I know.

It's a very curious subject, though. I love people who have accents. My other friend and I always tease this guy friend of ours about his accent. He's hispanic, and while he always has that sound to his voice, every so often, the accent will just be really obvious. For example, he's always talking about the Yankees, but sometimes it'll come out sounding like "Jan-kees." We always try to imitate it, then he gets embarassed, but he knows we only do it out of love. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, after all. And then the friend that imitates him with me, one of my best friends, has the most distinct voice ever. I've probably come to recognize it well, because I'm so close to her, but she couldn't pull a prank phone call if her life depended on it - everyone knows it's her.

Zia, it's actually pretty weird about accents. I am originally from the Bronx, although we moved to the suburbs when I was 13. Although I think I've lost that Bronx accent (we tend not to pronounce our r's at the end of certain words so that brother sounds like brothuh), I still hear it every now and then, especially if I'm excited about something. And Bronx is different than Brooklyn, without a doubt. And the suburbs are a completely different story!! NYers also speak very quickly, in a way that is considered quite rude in other parts of the country. But I think it's all because NY attracts so many different groups that we all start to blend. For the best NY accent, I have to give props to Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny.

Me and Becky just loved hearing the NY accents at the convention. I can sit and listen to you guys talk all day.

also I could sit and listen to a guy talk that has a country accent.

DMC, It's so nice to know that your obsession has limits.

Right now I'm so desperate for baseball, I'm watching the Game 7 of the 2003 ACLS championship, Boston v. Yankees, on the YES Network. God, it's nice to see Soriano in a Yankee uniform. I really miss him. And although I love me some ARod, I'm not so sure that was the best trade we ever made. I miss Fonzie!!

And at least Plaw maintains his dignity. *cough* I won't mention names, but you and DM know who you are.
