Cooties, cooties everywhere!! What are all these MEN (and I use the term loosely) doing in the Ladies Thread?? YUK!!

How can we share all those womanly things now, without worrying about you guys. We like to discuss laundry (did you see the fit of his uniform?), fashion (how great does his new 'do look?) and we post all those wholesome recipes (add one Derek Jeter to one ARod, throw in a dash of Vinnie and a smidgeon of Willie). Now, we'll have to think twice.

DS, After the lovely conversation we had last Sunday? No way!! It's those silly boys JG, Plaw and DMC that are ruining our pretty clubhouse!! :p

And JG, you're so right!! What was I thinking?? We'll have to amend that recipe to require a big old hunk of Willie. I'm sure that Gina won't mind.

Yeah, it was great speaking with you!

Glad to know I'm properly inoculated for cooties. I would never inundate threads with gratuitous pictures of half naked girls, say Jessica Alba, like DMC would.

I've got an assignment for my Spanish class to write a biographical-type article about the history of a person from a Spanish-speaking country.

My immediate thought: Willy. He's from the Dominican Republic, so he'd be a great pick, and I'd sure love doing research on him. It's not a very complex assignment, but my only thought was that I might not be able to get as much information on him as I could on someone else, what with him being in the spotlight for only a short time. I think it'll still work out, though. Considering this and the English paper I wrote a while back about baseball, I've really had a good time working baseball into my school projects this year!

CS, you might have seen this before - if not...uh, please forgive me.

Seriously, I am so sorry, but I thought of you immediately when I saw that.

I go to that site often, and they do those kind of jokes there a lot, so I knew what it was going to be like...forgive me?

Now I'll never be able to open a Willy picture posted by you, right?

You're so understanding. :p

Knowing DM, he'd probably post a picture of Trish and title it, "Willy" to trick me. Knowing Geoff, he'd probably post a picture of...well, you never really know with Geoff. (Just kidding, Geoff. )

Gina, what a great idea! I think it's terrific to work the things you care about into a project. This way, it can be fun and interesting to work on. I'm sure that you'll be able to find plenty of stuff, and, like you said, just think how much fun you'll have doing the research!

Gina - It might be pretty tough finding a good bio on Willy, if wikipedia only has this ... but good luck!

SB, absolutely! In the paper I mentioned, I wrote about the effect that baseball has had on my life. It all started as a joke - I didn't think I'd actually use that topic - but it worked out great! I worked a metaphor into it, comparing baseball to life (which then led into my universal truth essay that I'm now working on), and my teacher claimed it "wow'ed" him.

Gina, if you're looking for a good book to read that talks about baseball (although fictional), did you ever read Snow in August? It's about an Irish Catholic boy from Brooklyn. He ventures out into a blizzard to serve as altar boy at mass. He encounters an orthodox rabbi whose regular shabbes goy (I probably spelled that wrong) didn't show up. The shabbes goy is someone that an Orthodox Jew will hire at the Sabbath to turn on their heat, etc., as they are forbidden to do any work during the Sabbath. The rabbi teaches him about the jewish religion and he teaches the rabbi about baseball. It's a wonderful book, and you might really enjoy it. Snow in August on Amazon

No, I've never read that book, SB, but thanks for the recommendation! If I ever have the chance to get that, I'll certainly try to check it out. Gosh, I don't read near as much as I should, but when I do, I remember how much I love it. I'm just finishing up Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass for English, and I read a ton of it in my computer class yesterday, and it was so nice to get lost in a book. I think the main problem is that there's rarely enough time to really get "lost" in one. ), and just one book ("It" by Stephen King! I've seen the movie, and I figure the book will be even more entertaining.), but it got me in the reading mood just being there. I always think about how one could just live in a bookstore and never get bored.

"It" scared the bejesus out of me, especially since I have that clown phobia. If you've seen the movie, the ending is slightly different than the book. Tell me what you think when you get to it.

ARod has won the AL MVP award. I guess it's a good thing that the post-season didn't count. He had a great season, and then totally choked. However, he does fill out his uniform well, doesn't he??

Congrats to your man, A-Rod, on the MVP, SB!

Congrats to Pujols, as well! He's supposed to be my enemy, but the man is incredible, and I'd never deny that.

Well, I've read a bit in my It book, and I'm really enjoying it so far. If I had the same clown phobia, I'd probably never be able to read it... It's a huge book, and I don't think anyone at school believes I'll finish it, but I'm just going to work on it little by little and hopefully get through it. Check out the cover of the book - personally, I think the clown shown on the cover looks much more creepy/scary than the actual Pennywise in the movie...wouldn't you say?

Gina, I remember that when I was reading it, it scared me so badly at times, that I had to put it down and walk away. I was honestly too frightened to go further. I loved the friendship that developes between "the losers" and how they banded together to do what the adults were too frightened to do. Hang in there, we HAVE to discuss the ending. I remember accepting it as completely plausible while I was reading it; however, when my brother and I were discussing the movie (he hadn't read the book), he almost fell out of his chair when I told him how the book ended.

Speaking of endings, have any of you read The Natural (movie version had Robert Redford in it)? Talk about different endings...

Oh, you'll have to be patient with me, SB...I'm on page 57, I think, and there's a little over 1,000 pages.

I have a week off for Thanksgiving, next week, and three weeks later, I have my long Christmas break, so I do plan to get some good reading done on this book. Without all of the distractions of school, I should make progress.

I remember the movie ending (or I think I do...), and I seem to remember it being very odd. The book is just very different in comparison, or really strange in itself?

By the way, I just finished up the part about Stan, the Jewish one...so you'll know without my giving anything away to anyone else, I'll just say: Bath. That was so much more creepy to read than watch.

CS, I think I might've seen the movie version of The Natural, but I haven't read the book.

Oh! By the way, I thought of you and your "cesium" nickname during Chemistry today. I sit with three close friends in a group in that class, and we're always joking around...well, one guy loves talking about Pujols, and he's always teasing me and our two girl friends in the group about how we like him...which always annoys us, since we're Astros fans. He wrote "aluminum phosphate" on my friend's paper...Aluminum Phosphate for Albert Pujols... Then we decided that Pujols' middle name would be Simon, because it's aluminum, silicon, and phosphate in that order on the chart. We were using all these chemistry equations to make jokes with Pujols, the entire class time - we're such nerds.

(And I just looked up his middle name, out of sheer curiosity, and his full name is: Jose Alberto Pujols. That ruined it. :p )

Oh, I'm sorry, Mig! I meant to reply to that!

Pennywise is the actual name of the clown in the movie/book, It. In fact, I just looked up the exact quote from the book, and he (the clown) says to a boy, "I, Georgie, am Mr. Bob Gray, also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown." Not sure where Bob Gray comes from, but that's what he says.

Well, the book and the movie ended in a similar fashion, but one major difference was left out of the movie. And I can completely understand why.

Yes, that whole scene with Stan and his wife (Whoever heard of a Jewish mermaid?) was very good, and very sad, too. I love when King does that sort of background writing, although many could argue that we didn't need to know that much about Mrs. Uris, since we never see or hear from her again, but I love that kind of stuff.

BTW, Beth, what is this woman doing with your future son-in-law???
