Sorry about your boys, Zia. Weren't they playing the Rockets? I'd hate to wish a loss on my boys, but I've hardly followed them this year - you're much more dedicated to your basketball team, so I'd rather you get the win. Regardless, hope it's just a speed bump for them and that they can keep up the good work. I just can't get into basketball - I keep thinking abut baseball. Right, SB? I hear No-mah went to the Dodgers. How do you feel about that, Zia? I think there were a few trade rumors a while back about Houston getting him, but I think I would've gone crazy hearing my grandpa try to pronounce his name. Last I heard, he called him "Gasparo" instead of "Garciaparra." I swear, I'm going to have to re-learn nearly every player with all these trades going on. Just when I get one guy memorized with one team, he switches on me.

Well, I heard that Joe Torre went to Florence, Italy to carry the Olympic torch and before his flight, he made two recruiting calls: one to Garciaparra, and one to Johnny Damon. I was in Toronto when the Red Sox were playing, and they stayed in the same hotel. All the other players were very nice about signing autographs for kids in the lobby, except Nomar, who almost ran them over to hop in a taxi and make his get-away. I wouldn't want him to be a Yankee, so I'm glad he's going to L.A. Damon, on the other hand, wouldn't be a bad addition to the team. And if we get Rocket back.... (Gina, did I actually say that out loud??).

Yeah, I heard about us picking up Nomar. "Gasparo" That's funny. My grandpa butchers complicated or foreign names too, and they all sound Italian when he's through with them, too. It's hilarious. He was talking about someone named Kozumi once, very obviously Japanese, and the name ended up "Cossini" or something. Grandpa, what?? :p I think Nomar will be great for us. We'll see what happens, I don't want to jinx anything, since I'm on a roll with that lately. I read he was considering the Astros too... He's originally from L.A. though, so I think it took him long enough to come back and actually play for us!! So yeah, most everyone I know is excited about it so far. Makes next season that much more interesting! Oh and yes, the Lakers were playing Houston. But it was a terrible, low-scoring game. We lost 76-74, so it was pretty pathetic on both sides.

My grandpa ends up "de-foreignizing" every name he hears. He calls Roy Oswalt (the "Os" pronounced like "toes") Oswald (the "Os" pronounced like "Oz.") He used to call Beltran "Bertran." It's hilarious, but embarassing. I'm sure Nomar will be a nice addition for you. We sure haven't been trying very hard to acquire anyone. It worked out fine last season, though, so I'm going to trust them. Oh, and I guess it's better to end up at a party than stay for a Lakers loss, right? My father butchered names, too. He used to call Oprah Opie Wimpy, and, because my mom liked Jim Croce, he asked me to pick her up an album by "that nice Jimmy Crow". The best part was that he would get very angry if you didn't have a clue who he meant!! Yes, I heard that Nomar owns TWO homes in L.A., so everyone was pretty sure he would take the deal with the Dodgers. Gina, if you feel like Houston hasn't been pursuing anyone, my Yankees haven't gotten ANYONE!! It's been horrible!! With the exception of rumors about Damon and Clemens, there hasn't been any talk about them making any trades of substance. And it's not like their bullpen didn't need some shoring up!!

Okay, ladies...my new obsession.... Brian Setzer! *SWOON* As y'all may have seen, I started a thread about him in general - I just got his new Christmas Extravaganza DVD, and I've probably watched it all the way through about four times now, and many bits and pieces. I love the music, but I now realize that I love Brian, too. He used to perform with a band called Stray Cats when he was younger, and he looked very different but still so cute then . I'm more familiar with him being in his current band, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, however. My parents sort of introduced me to his music a while back, and I'm now reviving my interest. Anyway, he is an amazing guitarist, great singer, and his band is incredible. Watching the DVD, however, gives me a chance to enjoy the physical aspects of this band, as well. Brian puts on quite a show, making jokes between songs and strutting around the stage during the songs, and he is just such a cutie. Oh, and he looks so sexy when he smiles! He has a smile that just makes me melt! There are also a couple of cuties in his band...I wish I had pictures!

Gina, I loved the Stray Cats. They always played such fun and upbeat music. Why didn't I ever realize how cute he is before your post?? Thanks for the pics.

On the behind the scenes features, I found this entire clip of him working with another guy to write the song, "My Favorite Things," and it's just amazing the way they work together and create such a beautiful piece of music. He's really got talent and, what I love most, passion for his job. Mig, thanks so much for telling me he's in La Bamba! I've always heard of that movie, but I never saw it. It's supposed to be on TV on the 30th, so I'll have to tape it for sure. While looking for some of our other BSO CDs, I found this CD!

SB, apparently, Brian played Eddie Cochran in La Bamba - here\'s the IMDb page for the movie. Merry Christmas to my Ladies' Thread ladies (and men... )! May all of your holiday wishes come true - even if we can't have Derek, A-Rod, Manu, Willy, and Brian, we can still be happy, right? We'll just continue our fantasies about them. Truly, I hope you all have a blessed Christmas. Thank you for being such good friends. DM, if you're wondering why I didn't mention you and Trish up above, it's because we all know that you can have her, and will. Right? Well, I'm going to get Brian one of these days. I just have to make it to a concert, stalk (erm, meet) him backstage, and propose.
