Guess what I treated myself to today, SB? The first season of West Wing on dvd. Woo hoo!!! I have 2 catch two buses, and with it being 100 degrees today I stopped by the mall in between waiting for the second bus. Just for the heck of it I walked in the dvd store and it just called to me. You know that voice, like that puppy in the window at the pet store. You feel guilty if you go home without it. Now I'll never have another free moment again.

SB, thanks for the recommendation regarding my sleeping troubles - I'll definitely keep that in mind.

My mom emailed me an interesting article about what you mentioned - it seems that teens do have completely different sleeping patterns and habits. My family teases me about waking up and staying up late, and it makes me feel guilty, because I really do wish I could make myself get on a better schedule.

Well, once school starts, I won't have a choice as to how I sleep. I'll be up early and more than happy to go to bed early.

Oh, Beth, have fun!! I have Seasons One and Two on DVD. It's my routine to get up early on Saturday mornings to do my ironing, and I always watch WW when I do. I rewatched Celestial Navigation this past weekend and almost wet my pants laughing over CJ and her "woot canaw" and Josh and his secret plan to fight inflation. And almost cried watching In Exelcis Deo, when Mrs. Landingham was talking about her boys. Enjoy, enjoy!!

Gina, give the melatonin a try. It's completely natural and has no side effects. Glad you can get to sleep when you have to once school starts. Even though she gets up at 6:30 for school, my daughter STILL has trouble falling asleep at night. From her report card, I'm assuming that she caught up on her sleep in health class this year.

Oh, and the Yankees won AGAIN last night, on a homer by Melky Cabrera in the 11th inning!! Cheers all around, please.

So far I've just watched the commetaries by Aaron Sorkin and the director. It was cute when they mentioned how C.J. and Toby were in background scenes on their days off, so it was fun to notice them when I hadn't paid attention before. I'm going to gain so much weight cause instead of exercising my butt will be planted in front of the tv on weekends.

Vinny is gone from The Padres. Oh, what a sad day in my house. Quick, hide all the knives.

"Padres placed third baseman Vinny Castilla on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release."

Bethie, I'm so sorry!

After reading an article regarding it, I decided to make a tribute to Vinny, using several quotes from the story.

Quote:
He's an absolute class guy, the ultimate pro.

Those are the guys you don't like to lose -- substance guys. He's just a good dude.

He was pressing, wanting to do anything he could for the club. Whether he was in a pinch-hitting role, playing defense, whatever you needed, he kept a great attitude. He's a team player.

- closer Trevor Hoffman
Quote:
The strength he had for him ... he was like a grandfather figure for Adrian (Gonzalez - Padres 1B), a calming influence for him.

It's been a pleasure and an honor to manage him.

- manager Bruce Bochy
Quote:
Vinny's as good a figure on a club as you could ever want. He's so down to earth, for someone who's accomplished what he has. He's really close to Adrian, but he took an active interest in all of us.

Guys like that, you hate to lose. Vinny said his goodbyes this morning, and he seemed fine. He's really strong -- just a good dude, in every way. I hope something happens for him.

- outfielder Ben Johnson
Sounds like Bethie picked out a real winner - I wish him the best!

In tribute to Vinny I'll sing a little Phil Collins this morning.

When I'm feeling blue all I have to do is take a look at you. Then I'm not so blue.

When you're close to me I can feel your heartbeat. I can hear you breathing in my ear.

Wouldn't you agree, baby you and me, got a groovy kind of love.

Oh, dear. That is too bad, Beth. Wonder where he'll end up??

I watched a rerun of Oprah yesterday. Seems there was a young boy who lost both legs at 16 due to freakish complications from mono. Oprah, during her Wildest Dreams phase, read many letters written about this boy and how courageous he was, and decided to make his dream of meeting the NY Yankees come true. Donald Trump donated his helicopter to fly my Jeter to the boy's high school and surprised him at a pep rally. Then Jeter flew back to Yankee Stadium with the boy and his parents, had him come back to the locker room, meet all the players and coaches, and Jeter even cleared out his locker and let the boy use it. Then, they took him out to the field and Jeter even played catch with him. They also gave him box seats and he and a bunch of his friends attended the game. I was bawling my eyes out the entire time, even though I've seen this episode before. Even better, by the time the episode originally aired, the boy was using prosthetic legs, and walked onto the stage (albeit with great difficulty) and Oprah gave him $50G for medical bills, and sent him and his family on a cruise. It was too sweet. What an amazing kid he was!!

Yea I seen that yesterday and of course when I seen Jeter I thought of you SB. I was thinking to myself if you happened to be at that game when they taped it.

It's weird how in everyday life you can relate things to your BB buddies.

Well put, Mig. One day I was in a store and they were selling a hot cocoa set with Trish Stratus mugs. And I said to my daughter, DMC would LOVE that!! And she said, WHO?? It was very funny. You just never know where the BB will hit you.

I never get to go to Yankee games. They are sold out, sold out, sold out, or what's available are really bad seats that still cost a fortune. Sometimes Mr. Babe gets invited with a client, but I have to stay home.

Charlie and Mrs. Landerhan from West Wing are reunited...sort of. The acress who played the younger version of Mrs. Landerhan during the funeral show plays on Dule Hill's new show "Psyched."

Things haven't been so swell for my boys.

Berkman's been putting up a great fight for RBI leader in the NL, but we're still losing games. We're 3-6 in the second half.

I hope they can break out of this and go on a tear...

And no, even playing the Mets (with cuties like David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Carlos Beltran) isn't enough to make me happy. :p

YOUR boys aren't playing well??? Have you SEEN the Yankees lately. The last four games have been agonizing. They lost 13-5 today to the Blue Jays!! That really stinks. They are just not playing to their potential. Although, as Mr. Babe says, they can't be expected to win every game. They were just so close to catching the Red Sox that it's really a downer to see them lose 3 out of 4. Ah, well. What can you do??

Yesterday I finally got see baby Joshua for the first time since he was released from the hospital. Here's a pic of him and his big brother (my buddy) Christopher.

I am ashamed to say that there it was, bottom of the 8th, the Yankees were losing to Texas 6-7, Texas had the bases loaded and no outs, and I shut off the TV and went to bed. I just didn't want to see them lose. And then I woke up this morning, and find out that Jason Giambi hit a two run homer in the 9th and they won!! I feel like a very bad fan.

Nicole had one of her girlfriend's over for dinner tonight. Her friend work's in a furniture store and mentioned that she had a customer today, Miquel Tejada. Nicole's like, "Who's Miquel Tejada"? I think the last Oriole she knew by name was Cal Ripken Jr. I don't even think she could name 3 Yankees. She could, but they'd all 3 be named Derek Jeter.

Where are my ladies??? We haven't kept this thread going, and it's sinking further and further down....

Thought I'd post this photo:

Seems that Jeter is introducing a new male fragrance called "Driven". I thought this was a pretty cute picture of him. The oddest thing is, I actually went on avon.com and couldn't find it, though.

Here is another lady present and accounted for. I believe Gina may be on vacation, not sure. I haven't found much in the way of male conversation since I lost my Vinny. I hardly even watch baseball anymore, unless one of my fantasy teams or players is playing. Plaw would be so pleased..hahaha. All I've been doing is melting in this sweltering heat. The heat index was 105 today, it will be 110 tomorrow and on Thursday. It's supposed to cool down to 90 on Friday. Woo hoo!

Nicole is surprised to see I've slipped away from my Phantom obsession...but I've literally watched my West Wing DVD all weekend long. I think I'm up to 16 or something. The last one I watched was the one where Zoe had to tell Charlie they couldn't go to the club opening, and at the end Charlie brings movies and popcorn to her dorm room. Awww. Bartlett cracked me up with his talk down memory lane with Danny in hopes of getting him to reveal his source.

Bartlett: You're helping my bodyman woo my daughter?
Danny: Anything I can do to help.
Bartlett: YOu can leave now.

I'll clue Nicole in on Jeter's cologne. If it's out there, she'll find it.

So good to hear from you, Beth. My Yankees were doing so well, just a half game out of first. Then Boston won last night, and they're now losing 1-0 against the Blue Jays, although it is only the top of the 4th inning.

I love that episode with Zoey and Charlie! I was really hoping that there would be some resolution to their relationship at the end of the show, but Zoey was nowhere to be seen. That really sucked. I miss WW, since even Bravo hardly shows it. Tonight they showed the episode where Josh, Donna and Toby get left behind by the motorcade and it takes them forever to get back to DC. Josh makes Toby a bet and every time he introduces himself, My name is Toby Zeigler and I work at the White House. Toby could make me laugh every time.

On Saturday morning when I was doing my ironing, I watched Celestial Navigation again. That's the one where the president's nominee to the Supreme Court gets arrested for drunk driving and Toby and Sam have to drive to CT to get him out of jail. And CJ has "woot canaw" and Josh invents the secret plan to fight inflation. I almost wet my pants, I was laughing so hard!!

I watched that episode too. Love at it the when it pans in on a close up of them walking away and you see Josh's butt. Hahaha. You can tell what I watch for. Yeah, Celestial Navigation is one that I watched this weekend. I'm up to side one of the 3rd DVD..hahaha. My favorite of all time I think is the Christmas one..gosh, I can't remember the name. The one where Toby gives that homeless vet a funeral. That's very touching. When Mrs. Landingham asked to go, I almost wept.

Derek's cologne actually doesn't come out until November. So maybe they're only promoting it now, but you can't actually order it yet.

No vacation, gals - just taking a break from the BB...too hard to stay away, though.

I want to know where Zia is, though. I miss her!

Bethie, baby Joshua is an angel. Thanks for posting those pictures.

I had a revelation, by the way. I'm using some school tickets to go see my boys soon, and they're playing the Padres...

If only Vinny were still with them. I could've taken some photos, and I would've even been tempted to steal him for you.

SB, your boys have fought their way to the top! Can you get them to lower a rope for my boys to climb?

YES!! The Yankees are tied for first place!! Bernie hit a double that brought in 3 runs. It was fantastic. Gina, I will do my best to help your boys up.

Beth, the episode is In Exelcis Deo. I always cry when Mrs. Landingham tells Charlie about her sons dying. I still never understood why they killed her off.

SB, I caught some of the Yankee game today, and I saw something soooo cute...of course, it concerned Jeter.

He was standing on deck, waiting to bat, and he was positioned right near the fans. The cameras panned over to him right when this little boy in the crowd was offering him a spray from his water bottle fan. It showed him spraying Jeter, and it was just adorable. Of course, I immediately thought of you.

They'd just been discussing how hot it was - can you imagine playing baseball in that kind of weather?!

----

By the way...

I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to Roger Clemens!

Today, he turns 44, and he currently has a 2.09 ERA. Amazing. I only wish we could give him run support and a reliable bullpen as presents.

A tribute to his entire career - regardless of the team.

Well, the Rocket is the Rocket, is he not?? Still one of the greatest ever.

Awwwww, Gina, thanks for sharing that Jeter moment!! I missed that game. Figures. They won again tonight, and they needed it since Boston won as well. Still hanging onto first place by a game!

Congrats to your boys!

Oh, it's that stressful time of year, when the playoff race really heats up and "every game counts." (Not that they didn't before...we just finally realize they do! ) Watching the standings, those "magic" elimination numbers...lost are the calm days of spring.

My boys got a much-needed win against Arizona today, but we did it our way, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats until the very last out. Our bullpen is going to give me a heart attack one of these days.

In Ladies' Thread news, Willy had a great game with 3 hits, 2 RBI, a stolen base, an outfield assist, and his first homer of the season!

Gina, Nothing beats a good, solid performance by your Willy!! Now, did you think that fantasy sports was the only thread where you would read Willy jokes??? :p

The Yankees got their butts kicked 5-0 by the Orioles today!! Right now, the Red Sox are losing 5-4 in the 8th, but I get the feeling that they may not be losing for long.

Tough game for the boys today - they had plenty of opportunities but couldn't win it. Luckily, Cincinnati also lost, which helps in the WC race...would've helped more to gain a game on them, though.

Looks like your boys capitalized on Boston's loss!
