It could get ridiculous, though.
Because what happens if Texas thinks the same thing: Whoever has the ball last, given reasonable field position and enough time on the clock, will win.
So they go and let USC score on one play.
Now Texas gets the ball, and USC does the same thing......

Now Texas gets the ball, and USC does the same thing...... You know this is the first thing I was thinking of last night when watching a Superbowl edition from NFL films. It'd be '98, Denver against Green Bay, and in the program they revealed that Denver's last touchdown was scored so easily due to Holmgren wanting the ball back giving Favre time to score and take the game into OT. Obviously it never happened and Elway finally got his ring. The case is different but the principle is the same. The risk is high.
