I'm not concerned about the draft game, I was just answering his question of why Winn wasn't playing... BTW - Thanks for your congrats in the Horse Racing thread. :p

Hmmmm..... I have a feeling that except for CC, we all did our teams for Monday a little too early on Sunday. Every site has Carpenter pitching for St. Louis today. I don't remember who they had when I did my team - Suppan maybe? - but it wasn't Carpenter.

Damn... I already picked Glavine. Second choice was Zambrano. Ahh well, and just as well... since BOTH Zam and Carp are on my draft team, surely BOTH will fuck up tomorrow anyway -- let alone Glavine who'll do worst of all. 'night!

I was talking about "Homerism" in general, not this game specifically. I know you're not playing, but if you were you would probably be taking a team of all Blue Jays every day (Homer). :p MaryCas already tried that strategy one year with he Yankees. It didn't work out too well, though. So when can we expect the "Vernon Wells For MVP" and "Roy Halladay for Cy Young" threads to pop up? Any day now, I'd guess......

I'll say it now and get used to it my Baseball savvy friend. VERNON WELLS and TROY GLAUS for co A.L. M.V.P.s, ROY HALLADAY for CY YOUNG AWARD WINNER as the best pitcher in the A.L.! B.J. RYAN Closer of the century! All individual and team awards in The A.L. and M.L.B. will be taken by MY Blue Jays and after we sip sweet champagne in October or beer, whatevert.f., WE will conquer Canada, America, Mexico, The D.R., Puerto Rico, Panama, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Israel/Palestine, The Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America and the entire World. So be afraid be very afraid...muhuhahahahahahahah!lol! The scary thing is I'm only half kidding. I am a Homer though, right?! :p

To be serious for a moment.....
I don't know about Wells or Glaus for MVP - Toronto would have to win the division and one of them would need a career year, I think - but Halladay is a serious CY candidate and if the Jays have a good year and B.J. piles up the saves, he could be Fireman of the Year.

Yeah, I see.....I don't know what made me think it was CC with Carpenter. In any case, nice catch. Now you just gottta hope that it works out for you.

We're only three weeks into the season, but I'm pretty sure we've never had five people so tightly bunched in 1st thru 5th this late, with only 26 points separating them, and four people between 2nd and 5th only 6 points apart. (Once again, and for the future, the pitcher's W-L record in parentheses is his team's record in games he has started, not the pitcher's indivudual W-L mark) Monday's Scores & Tuesday's Probables & Standings PL 1042 Ari (29) 49 1091 Bos Schilling 4-0 1.61
TM 1030 ChC (28) 40 1070 SaD Peavy 1-3 4.32
GG^ 1013 StL (22) 54 1067 Bos
CC^ 1009 ChC (28) 56 1065 SaD
DB 1017 ChC (28) 47 1064 SaD
JG 973 NYM (00) 25 998 Bos
JL 930 Ari (29) 56 986 Fla Willis 1-3 2.92
DC 940 NYM (00) 24 964 Tor Chacin (?) 3-0 5.61
SC 795 Hou (05) 14 809 Bos
LZ 748 Hou (05) 23 771 Hou Nieve 0-1 4.91 (DNP) PL is plodding along as he tries to prove last year was a fluke.... TM still (suprisingly) hasn't missed any days.... GG's "steal" of Carpenter didn't work out, but she remains scorching hot.... CC climbed back to 4th with day's high score.... DB was only 9 points off day's high, yet he dropped two spots in this very tight race.... JG's "Curse of the Pork" strikes Tom Glavine.... JL tied for day's high, but still has a long way to go; Fortunately for him, there is.... DC's Chacin pick today is at least questionable.... SC is still fighting off his 3-day late start, but even if you give him an additional 120 points or so... .... and LZ just seems to not want to get into the game.

Well gee.... You didn't have to embarrass me by pointing out that out, did you? Hell, if I could pick a winning or losing pitching staff every day, I could make a fortune betting on baseball games. Chacin wasn't a bad pick, it was just -as I said - "questionable", given the pitchers who were going yesterday who are clearly much better than he is. And the fact is, it was a questionable pick, unless you knew something that probably 99% of the people playing this game didn't know. If you do have some special inside knowledge that will help your future questionable picks work out like this one did, I guess we can expect to start watching your inevitable rise in the standings, from 8th place in our league - ahead of only someone who isn't playing and someone else who started three days late - and from 4020th place in the standings against everyone in the world who is playing. Of course, there's always the possibility that your Chacin pick was the result of what in these games we call "going unpredicatable", a situation in which someone is so far behind that they feel the only way to make up ground is by making picks that they know no one else will be making (like Chacin), and hoping that they get lucky and have a good day (which Chacin did), while everyone else's "better" picks have a bad day (like Schilling, Peavy, and Willis did).

You didn't have to embarrass me by pointing out that out, did you? Wow! You like to dish it out huh, but don't like when you're wrong. Hell, if I could pick a winning or losing pitching staff every day, I could make a fortune betting on baseball games. Chacin wasn't a bad pick, it was just -as I said - "questionable", given the pitchers who were going yesterday who are clearly much better than he is. Your opinion, that's all. :p Of course, there's always the possibility that your Chacin pick was the result of what in these games we call "going unpredicatable", a situation in which someone is so far behind that they feel the only way to make up ground is by making picks that they know no one else will be making (like Chacin), and hoping that they get lucky and have a good day (which Chacin did), while everyone else's "better" picks have a bad day (like Schilling, Peavy, and Willis did). Possibly! But then again we still haven't even gotten out of April yet. And the fact is, it was a questionable pick, unless you knew something that probably 99% of the people playing this game didn't know. Could be! If you do have some special inside knowledge that will help your future questionable picks work out like this one did, Relax Plaw, you take these things waayyyy tooooo seriously! It's all in fun. As YOU told me, "Over in the sports threads we goof on each other all the time." So take a chill pill. :p Don Cardi

That was a lucky pick. :p And you'll be even luckier if Maroth (3-0, 0.49) keeps up his unbelievable current pace -- cuz he won't. There - I Anti-Jinxed™ you, so he should do well.

Sheesh....what did you do, buy a case of tissues? Anytime I say something, you interpret it as crying or whining. And as far as goofing or not goofing goes, I think you're the one that needs the chill pill. Let's see now, just FYI...... Originally posted by plawrence: Well gee....
You didn't have to embarrass me by pointing out that out, did you? Said in pure jest. Certainly not a "whine", so why the crying baby picture? Hell, if I could pick a winning or losing pitching staff every day, I could make a fortune betting on baseball games. Said by way of poining out that, in fact, I don't know everything, so in effect I'm really goofing on myself. I don't see where the box of tissues come in to play here. Chacin wasn't a bad pick, it was just -as I said - "questionable", given the pitchers who were going yesterday who are clearly much better than he is.
And the fact is, it was a questionable pick, unless you knew something that probably 99% of the people playing this game didn't know. Statement of fact in the spirit of seriously discussing the game. If you think that Chacin is a better pitcher than Schilling, Peavy, or Willis......
Strictly goofing on you, breaking your balls, or whatever you want to call it, based on your performance in the game so far. Lighten up and get a sense of humor. You take things waaaay too personal. We kid each other all the time in these game threads when someone is doing poorly, and the usual response is to kid the person back about how lousy he is doing. I think you're the one that needs the chill pill here. Honest analysis again. What I suggested above is a legitimate strategy move which we've talked about here many times. Oh.....and please, please, PLEASE don't fall back on "I take this too seriously" and you have better things to do with your time than worry about a fantasy game. That's starting to sound waaay too much like FS. :p Sure, I take it seriously, but no more so than JG or DB or JL does, or DM did when he played. We've discussed this before and we all spend roughly the same amount of time every day maybe, maybe 5-10 minutes or so, doing our "research" and picking our teams, and I think that among the five of us we all have the same desire to win.

There - I Anti-Jinxed™ you, so he should do well. Hey, you! You stay away from Maroth with your jinxes. I think he's a GREAT pick today. I think he's a contender for the AL Cy Young Award this year. I think there's an excellent chance that he will continue at his present pace. In fact, I fully expect him to. (Did I mention that I have him on my Yahoo team ) And he's the perfect pick for someone in last place looking to gain ground by picking a pitcher that has a reasonably good chance of doing well that no one else figures to have.
