You have a way with words, JG.

Sorry to say, I have to get to bed...3 AM unfortunately won't work every night.

Besides, I've got a wedding to plan. :p

-----

Sorry for veering off topic, Plaw...

I considered CWS, but (jinxes aside!) they've screwed me over far too many times. Okay, maybe this is my superstitious side talking, but I was afraid. Mets might not work out any better, but I guess we'll see soon enough.

Good night, guys!

Looks to me like.....

The battle is now for second place....

A 135 point lead seems fairly safe... for the moment at least....

I would have lost my shirt if I would have made a bet at the beginning of the season on how many days TM would've missed by now....

JL didn't play today, but has a full team out there...was it accidental or was he unavailable and planning ahead....?

Smoltz is exactly the kind of pitcher to use on a day when Santana is pitching and you want to go "unpredictable", not a guy like Chacin (just my .02 of course)....

Here's a thought which suggested itself to me because of JL's DNP today but his full team nonetheless:

I was thinking about the day I got zero points for being over the cap, and here's something that makes no sense:

If someone misses the day entirely, which among the people in our league who play this game competitively is a rare occurance, they still get whatever points they manage to get from whoever is still active on their roster from the day before.

Generally, in other words, at least they get something.

But if someone plays but simply accidentally goes over the cap, then they get nothing for the day.

What strikes me is that I regard missing a day (unless it's planned and you've picked the best "two day team" that you can) a much more serious "offense" - one that should have a greater impact on your chances of winning - than accidentally being over the cap, yet the penalty for being over the cap is much greater.

Just a thought......

As it should be. The rules state that you cannot go over the cap; however, the rules do not state that you have to change your lineup every day.

Yeah, I know what the rules say, and the fact that this is the wekend has nothing to do with my point except reinforce it somewhat, since not only do teams always play on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but virtually almost always on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, making five days out of seven that someone can commit the horrendous mistake of not changing their team ang getting away with it.

In fact, with a little bit of luck, they could theoretically do better than they would have had they changed their team.

My point is that the way we play, a style in which changing your team every day is almost imperative if you want to maximize your score, I find it to be somewhat of an anomaly that the penalty for not changing your team is less than the penalty for being over the cap.

I know what the rules say and I'm not suggesting that they be changed because obviously you could not have a rule which states that you must change your team every day - that's what makes it an anomaly to me.

Forget the rules for a moment (yeah, I know, you can't "forget" the rules.....)

If you were going to make one mistake during the course of the season, which mistake would you prefer to make?

Being over the cap, or forgetting to change your team?

I think that anyone in our league would prefer making the latter mistake to the former, which means that they consider the former mistake to be the worse mistake of the two, which to my way of thinking means that the penalty for that mistake should be greater.

Maybe this is more of a conundrum than an anomaly

Right. The penalty for being over the cap IS much greater. As it should be. Here's the solution: Don't go over the cap. :p

I thought your original point was that the greater mistake was missing a day, not going over the cap.

By saying the following...

... it appears you are saying that the greater mistake is going over the cap.

I may have misunderstood.

OK....I see what you guys are saying.

My mistake. I've got myself confused here.

Lemme try it from this angle:

Here's what I said in my first post about this:

What strikes me is that I regard missing a day (unless it's planned and you've picked the best "two day team" that you can) a much more serious "offense" - one that should have a greater impact on your chances of winning - than accidentally being over the cap, yet the penalty for being over the cap is much greater.

I guess what I mean is that IMO missing the day (unless it's intentional) should be the worse mistake from the POV of - this is where I run into trouble because I don't know exactly how to label it - let's call it "gamesmanship".

I dunno...maybe being over the cap is a "stupider" mistake to make or something.....

Changing your team every day is such an important part of the way we play that we've always regarded it as the most serious mistake you could make.....

As I say....I can't really explain why I think missing a day is the more serious mistake, I just think that it is, or should be.

But it isn't, because you define the seriousness of the mistake by its penalty, and the penalty for being over the cap is greater.

The one or two days that he posted the scores it was he who left you out, and when I, after patiently including you day after day, finally announced that I wasn't gonna post your scores any more, it was he who made that incredibly mean "It's about time" comment.

(Just so we're clear on all of this.)

So what happens now?

You changed your team and you're gonna forget it for another four weeks?
