oh, right.

From CBSsportline;

Mets RHP Pedro Martinez threw in the bullpen Monday and remains in line to start Wednesday against Arizona. Martinez complained of stiffness in his upper right hip after Friday's start. With a day off Thursday, it's possible the Mets could push him back to start Friday against San Francisco. If that happens, LHP Tom Glavine would also be moved back a day.

Interesting....

They give you the line on the home team, so in the Pittsburgh game for example, while it says that Pitts is +130, you don't know what the price is on the favorite.

So all of those times you've been posting the highest priced favorite, there might have been some that were an even higher price, but it wouldn't have shown because they were the visiting team.

Their adjusted line here is not worth much without knowing exactly how they compute it, but they do provide some useful information there which I look at already; mainly a teams's record against lefty or righty SPs, and their record on grass fields as opposed to artifical surfaces.

These are "splits" which I believe can establish identifiable and useful trends:

Teams which do better against righty SPs, for example, probably are stronger hitting teams from the left side, so that trend may continue.

Same goes for the characteristics which make some teams better in artificial turf:

An emphasis on speed over power, or a better defensive infield, for example.

On the other hand, a team's reord on Wednesday vs. the other days of the week is fairly useless, I think.

And fear not; Not really any help there for the fantasy player.

BTW, if you want to see the betting lines on both the favorite and the underdog, go

HERE

Then click on "betting Lines", the "Major League Baseball".

Also, keep in mind that the above is a real betting site, so the lines are real - you can actually bet money in them.

The Fox Sports lines, while they are probably from a real betting source, are not "real" themselves, since Fox is not running a sports book.

Yeah. I didn't notice that.

They do, course, give the lines for the underdog as well, which they would have to do since it is a betting site.

HERE they are; it's a different page..

I suppose "Run Line" (which is either +1.5 or -1.5) is who you think will score 2+ runs more than the other team?

In the other game, upon looking at these spreads, I was kinda torn btwn starting Francis and/or Hensley -- both whom I have -- hopefully Hensley was the right choice today... No, I probably wouldn't start either as my sole PS in this game

Edited

The "run line" is like a point spread.

Instead of laying, say 250 to win 100 on a big favorite, you can lay only, say 11-10, or 6-5, or 13-10, but they have to win by more than 2 runs.

If they win by exactly 2 runs, it's "no bet" (a "push"). If the win by less than 2 runs, or lose the game outright, you lose the bet.

If you want the underdog, instead of getting odds of, say, 2 to 1, you get 1 1/2 runs added to their score, so if they win the game outright or lose by only one run, you win your bet.

But remember...you're not getting the fat 2-1 odds anymore. You're now laying 11-10, or getting only even money or something.

Maybe we should combine both games into one thread?

There are 7 of us playing both games.

Since I'm so far down the totem pole in the Yahoo game, I have no idea who you guys have on your team.

Every one I rejected, I wrote an essay for you on why.

Especially that last one...I don't know why you even bothered making it.

There's been a disconnect for years between the Yahoo fantasy games and my email account. I never get these types of messages.

So if the answer to why I shouldn't have even bothered trying the last one is found in one of your essays, I never got it.

It was in that little box they give you for comments. You don't get those messages?

I remember the last one, though, where you offered me Howard I think.

I said I had Dunn for 1B and Hafner for Util, and if I put Dunn in LF, then I had no where to put Burrell, so Howard did me absolutely no good.

Actually, I think TM is responsible for this...definite anti-jinx material a page back.
