41 (hmm, in the draft game it's 50 - and I thought everything was equalized?) has to be some non-D/H record, right? :p

It's not equalized.... In the Yahoo game you get 1 point for the start, 3 each for the complete game and shutout, and 7 for the win instead of 5. I seem to think we've done better than 41 in the ESPN game....I remember at least one game the first year when I had Prior in a game that he pitched like a two or three-hit shutout with a ton of strikeouts, but Lackey's 50 is definitely the high for the Yahoo game. )Note to DC..... How does a big Mets fan like you miss a doubleheader with them? )

However, this big Mets fan has seen Willie Randolph's style of managing over the last two seasons and when I made my picks for today I figured that Randolph would sit big hitters like Delgado, Beltran, etc. and rest these guys before the break and give many of his 2nd tier bench guys some playing time instead. I actually made my picks for today, early yesterday morning, before last night's game. And what did Randolph do last night? Exactly what I figured he would do. And I'm betting that he is going to do the same thing today. So being that I felt that Randolph would rest many of his big guns and the fact that the Mets pitching hasn't really been that impressive over the last few weaks, and a non proven pitcher is going for them today, I decided that the DoubleHeader strategy is probably not worth it. Add that to the fact that there is only 3 games left and I am pretty far behind, I figured that most who are above me would be going the doubleheader route and that I should take a shot and hopefully gain some respectable ground by going against what I figured all those above me would probably do. Sound reasoniong for the most part, but you had to figure that there would be at least a few guys between the two teams that would play both games.
I agree with you about the Mets PS....that's why I took Florida.
And if your guess is correct about the regulars not playing both games for the Mets, that makes Florida's PS look even better.
That guaranteed +48 that you get to start with with the visiting team in a dhoubleheader is tough to beat, especially with two decent starters going like Florida has.

Can you do that for my Astros? Lidge blew the lead in the 9th, after we made a comeback... Tie ballgame now. We need runs! (And a new closer...I don't know what the deal is with him. )

At least I had most of the right guys on offense today  Things looked soooo promising after the first game was over and the starting lineups for the second game were in..... -43.....close to a record I'd guess. I mean, OK, gimme a bad second game...a -10 or a -15. But a freakin' -43? I coulda been right back in the middle of things. I coulda been a contenda.....

Originally posted by Tony Mosrite: I did feel a little worried when you so confidently called Nolasco a "decent starter". but I never, ever imagined it could be that bad. Hey, what can I tell 'ya? Look at Nolasco's game log - a whole bunch of decent starts recently, and a 3.97 E.R.A. coming into the game. Of course, I never expected 32 points in the first game - That was pure luck. I was looking for a split of the DH, and somewhere in the mid to high 30's for the day. But then.....Second game of a doubleheader, when guys are tired....Delgado out, Reyes out....32 points the first game..... You really couldn't ask for a better situation. I figured even if the Mets score 6-7 runs, how bad could it be for the day? We'd still wind up plus somewhere in the mid or high-twenties, and with any kind of luck at all we could be in the high 40's or low 50's. Don't second guess yourself. I still say it was the right move, and I'd do it the same way every time. Unfortunately, as we know, the "right move" doesn't always work out. (Edit: Here 'ya go.....Going into yesterday, Nolasco had made 9 starts. Florida was 4-5 in those 9 starts, with Nolasco pitching 53 innings, with 36 strikeouts and an E.R.A of 3.91 -- certainly respectable enough to expect that even if he loses you'd still get a few points out of the game.)
