I just had Sunny D! I gave up coke for Lent (soda, not drugs... :p ), so I've been desperate for any kind of drink replacement - water, koolaid, tea, gatorade...the list goes on. I always tell my mom that when I'm older, the only way I'm going to spend my free time is by drinking beer and watching baseball. Or at least that's what I'd like to do, and I might as well be honest. Zia, me and you were never good at staying on topic last year, and now that Bethie's back in the game, our meandering chick chat will be endless.

Great, Gina.
I just have to hide the cartoon from all members of my household, lest I allow myself in for a justifiable amount of ridicule.

Plaw, since you're a "fantasy parent," you'd never react that way, would you? :p And I already tried to get my mom and dad to join, so there's no hope in them joining the dark side. CS, now that I've made you feel comfortable, I think it's time to make my pitch. My offer is this: um, please join BBC? C'mon...if you'll put up with all of that draft nonsense over in Yahoo, you can surely deal with this another year. You know, a full year...in competition with Plaw. *wink, wink* I mean, don't feel that I'm forcing you into anything - *nudge* - but we'll just miss you so much here! Geoff, you...word-twister!

A "fantasy parent" Obviously schoolwork should come first, but you can always point out that playing these "silly" games have a value above and beyond that of being purely recreational. They foster a sense of responsbility and self-discipline (particularly those games in which daily attention and participation is a must); they require certain planning and research skills and the ability to plan ahead (for things like a draft or looking at pitcher-hitter-ballpark matchups to find those which are most advantageous); there are also mathematical aspects to just about all of them (in staying under a salary cap and deciding where the trade-offs come into play); and psychological aspects as well (like in making trades or trying to figure out which players your opponents might pick in a salary cap game in which you have the lead and are trying to "play defense". At least that's how I try and sell it to his mother :rolleyes: .

Great stuff, Plaw. I think I'll print this out and just keep it in a safe place - next time I let fantasy take priority over school, I'll test it out on my mom. And after being grounded from baseball for a week, I'll let you know how it went. :p You do make a good argument, though. She's already getting annoyed with my recruiting at school - I've got 26 other people in my group, now. I kept worrying that they wouldn't keep up with it - maybe they just joined to try it out and would end up forgetting about it - but now...there's incentive. Cash incentive.

Points? What are you talkin' about? That's what I said. (Gotcha, DC. ) Zia, if I were bribing all of them, I'd have to introduce my friend, George Washington, instead. A friend suggested the idea of us all putting money in, which the winner would get to keep, so I went with it. I've gotten "commitment" from most all of the players, but next week is "collection week" - if I end up having to muscle these characters, it ain't gonna be pretty. I tested out my "intimidation face" ( ) on some people today, while flashing my Godfather keychain at them - I think they know I mean business. I'm not going to be a part of the pool, because I've played the game longer than anyone else, but I'm hoping this idea will keep all of them interested.

Is it just me, or is the number of eligible players at each position much fewer ( :p ) this year? Or am I just used to the endless basketball lists? Also, is it too early to start bitching about the beginning salary cap? :p And, why am I predicting that Plaw isn't gonna last in this game, even tho it's tougher and more involving than his beloved Yahoo game? Where's his excitement here? :rolleyes:

I get to be SC! WHINE ALERT! :p (I'll always remember, SC was the first one here to tell me I needed a WA...which was the beginning of a long and prosperous career as a whiner. ) You don't sound much more excited than Plaw, though. Where's the enthusiasm, people? It's baseball season. Life begins again. The glory days. Entrance to heaven. The only sport that matters. So on and so forth.

Plaw's doing cartwheels in the other thread... :rolleyes: just wondered why he hated salary cap games now that he's not winning them any more {ouch! oh, snap, yes I did!}

What do you want if you win?
Altho I would prefer to play for money. And so confident am I that I will beat you, I will even offer you odds.
You name the stakes: How much per point, and I'll give you 2-1 odds on the money.
If you say, for example, 25 cents a point, then that's what I get if I win, but if you win I'll give you 50 cents a point.
A penny a point, ten cents a point, a dollar a point....I don't care.
Talk about making someone an offer they can't refuse.... :p

Completely random but you know what I just realized... During our first season of Baseball Challenge, I named my team "Douche Big alow" with an "a" instead of an "e"... Weird. Anyway, after much debating, shows of intestinal fortitude, and copious amounts of Gina's "coke"... I'm in. (Reading the old thread did the trick. )
