Hmm, maybe the " " and " " confused you... it's called a joke.

Yeah, it does.... I didn't think DJ taking Mirabelli yesterday was too funny. Maybe I'm losing my sense of humor in my old age, but I can tell you that aggravation is not good for me. As far as taking Rivera yesterday is concerned: Going into yesterday I was in second place (I led in BAvg, DM led in HRs and RBIs). Howard was the best of who was available tomorrow, especially since homers was the category I needed to make up ground in, but DM figured to take Howard and taking the same player as he did couldn't help me any. The "best of the rest" for me to pick from was Rivera, I thought, since he's been so hot lately.

See, JG....you got me so nuts that I forgot to change to Howard for today. I originally had Howard yesterday, but changed to Rivera when I saw that DM would probably use Howard yesterday, and I intended to use Howard today. Maybe I'll get lucky with Helton.....

I didn't notice your long post above 'til now. I agreed to use AVG as the tie-breaker (the idea that was planted in my head by you, twice, before I caved and agreed to :p ), and will use that this month if it's necessary.
However, going forward, I think the winner should be the person with the highest combined %ile scores for all three categories. That makes the most sense to me. With that criteria, going into tonight, DMC (293.4) would win, followed by PL (279.8) and DJ (264.4).

No, you were the one who suggested batting average as the tiebreaker because that was the category in which there was least likely to be a tie.
And if you look at the thread, you will see that I only suggested batting average as the tiebreaker in the context of
“If you wanna use batting average as the tiebreaker, fine. Or HRs, or RBIs, or whatever”
But most importantly, if you look at the dates of the posts, especially the one where you finally agreed to use average as the tiebreaker, I was not in the lead in batting average, so don’t say that I was suggesting average because I had a big lead in that category and was suggesting it out of self interest.
Don't give me this junk about how I planted the idea in your head and you "caved".
I was behind in batting average at the time - look at the scores you were posting.
Now....
As far as going forward is concerned, do it any way you want, as long as everyone knows that this is how we do it and it won't get changed in mid-month.
If you want my opinion, I don't like the idea that it treats each category equally and
I don't like the idea that it bases the winner of our league on how we do against the whole world instead of how we do against each other.
There can be a substantial difference. If you don't see how, I'll explain.
But, as I say, I don't really care how you do it.

What I said I don't like...that it decides our winner based on how we do against the rest of the world instead of each other.... Suppose that it's just you, me, and DM, and at the end of the month, thee are our totals: HR RBI AVG.
PL 13 39 .340
JG 12 55 .330
DM 11 40 .333 Based on some kind of method of "weighted" the scores in each category, I'd say that you should be the winner because your big lead in RBIs more than offsets the small amount that you trail by in homers and average. But if you throw us into aleague with 7 other people and go by percentile rankings, like so HR (pct) RBIs (pct) Avg. (pct) Total
Player 1 17 60 .400
Player 2 16 59 .375
Player 3 15 57 .360
Player 4 14 56 .334
PL 13 60% 39 30% .335 70% 160
DM 12 50% 42 50% .333 50% 150
JG 11 40% 55 60% .330 40% 140
Player 5 10 41 .300
Player 6 9 38 .290
Player 7 8 37 .280 Because of the large differnce between 5th and 6th place in RBIs, DM and I can be way behind you in raw totals, but not lose much on a perentile basis because no one had between 55 and 42 RBIs to fill in those "missing places" and drop us further in percentile. Obviously an extreme example, but you should get the idea. If there's a month when you have, say 50 RBIs and I have 48, but there are a zillion people with 49, I will lose a lot more "percentil points" than a difference of 2 RBIs is worth. And, as in the example above, vice-versa. If you have 50 RBIs for the month and I have only 42, but there are a disproportionatley low number of players in between, I will not lose as many "percentile points" as an 8 RBI difference should be worth.

So doing it the way you suggest places a differnt value on each individual stat (HRs, RBIs, and BA), which changes daily depending on the performance of people that we are not even competing against. It also forces you, to some extent, to strategize in the "blind" - not know what type of hitter to go for, power or average, on a given day - because of the "world" has a good day for homers and you went for homers, your home runs are worth less, and vice-versa. I'd rather we decide on one constant value for all of the different stats in relation to each other, and then just compete agianst each other, since in effect we are playing a different game. We are looking to establish one winner for all three categories cumulatively. ESPN is just trying to find a separate winner in each category, and possibly one winner for all three. But they don't care if someone wins two out of the three. If you want to stick with the "whoever wins 2 out of 3" method, that's OK with me, but the tiebreaker should not be RBIs, since that is the category most dependent on luck. If you want the most important category, I'd say homers, because each homer is guaranteed to produce at least one run for a team, while a guy can go 4-4 and not help his team at all. Homers also is probably the category which requires the most skill, since guys get robbed on great fielding plays and get cheap hits every day and no, it doesn't necessarily even out. Problem with homers is that of all the categories, homers has the best chance for a tie. I'd vote for the "weighted categories" method that I proposed earlier. Maybe I like it because it was my idea, but the values seemed about right to me, and the winner would usually seem to be the person who really excelled and had a big margin of victory in one of the 3 categories. Originally posted by plawrence: How about this:

I figured that based on about 100 ABs, 100 points in batting average was 10 more hits, so I figured 10 more RBIs should be worth about the same, so it's really sort of kind of maybe 1 point per hit when you get to the end of the month and 10 points per RBI.
I figured homers were the hardest to get, so they should be worth the most.
I'm not necessarily saying that this is what we should do, BTW -- just throwing some numbers out there. So based on the above, so far this month would be as follows: HR RBI AVG.
DM 15 46 .431 or 431 + 375 + 460 = 1266
PL 15 33 .455 or 455 + 375 + 330 = 1160
DJ 13 44 .362 or 362 + 325 + 440 = 1127
JG 12 29 .293 or 293 + 300 + 290 = 883 I don't know about other months - I suppose we could go back and have a look - but these numbers seem right to me. DM and I are tied in homers, but his lead of 13 RBIs is worth more than my lead of 24 points in BA - as it should be. DJ has considerably more RBIs than I do, but my 2 extra homers and 93 point lead in average seem to offset that and give me just enough of a lead over him. Plug in different numbers and differenent scenarios to my formula, and see what you think. It's funny..... If we were talking about an entire baseball season, I'd say that a guy who hit .350 with 100 RBIs was a ton more valuable than a guy who hit .250 with 110 RBIs, and they'd be tied with my formula. But for only one month, 1 RBI seems to be worth about 10 points of batting average.

Good evening fantasy sports fans. Here we are on the gangster BB at the start of a new month, still not knowing exactly what the scoring system is. Oh, and congrats DM. Whatta race! I don't think we ever had a game that came down to the last day like that.
