From Amazon The third, and final, installment in Mario Puzo's epic chronicle of the Corleone crime family-one of the most enduring lineages in American literature and cinema-achieves a stunning crescendo with a story that imagines the role of the Mafia in the assassination of a young, charismatic president. It's impossible to overstate the influence of Mario Puzo's The Godfather, which has become an essential part of our cultural lexicon. Puzo's novel about the secret world of organized crime became a megabestseller and an instant classic. The book inspired the Francis Ford Coppola films-unprecedented successes in their own right-and launched a national obsession with the Mafia that continues unabated today. In The Godfather's Revenge-again authorized by the Puzo Estate-Mark Winegardner moves the Corleone family onto the biggest stage of all: the intersection of organized crime and national politics. A subordinate to Michael Corleone, New Orleans underboss Carlo Tramonti is publicly humiliated when the U.S. Attorney General-President Danny Shea's brother-has him arrested and deported to Colombia. Tramonti eventually returns, hell-bent on settling scores, and triggers a series of events destined to change the course of American history. Corleone, though haunted by the death of his brother Fredo, knows that this is no time for weakness-and so, with fearless consigliere Tom Hagen leading the way, a new path for the future is forged. As the dramatic twists of The Godfather's Revenge take the reader from Las Vegas to Miami to New Orleans, from the power alleys of Washington, D.C., to the remote jungles of Colombia, the puppet master behind the curtain remains Michael Corleone, the tortured prodigal son who is determined to redefine his family's legacy and make his father-the original Godfather-proud.

Mr. Winegardner had absolutely no clue as to how to properly portray Puzo's characters and as far as I am concerned Mr. Winegardner's GF stories have absolutly no merit whatsoever and do an injustice to the story and the characters that Mario Puzo created. So many things could have been done with the direction of the GF Returns and the characters, but obviously Winegarner had a totally different idea and without doing his homework created personalities of the GF characters that were no where near what the original characters were like. The synopsis/excerp from this new GF book does not excite me one bit. There are several members on these boards who, without question, could have done 1000 times better in writing another GF book than this pezzanovante did with GF Returns. Winegardner's GF Returns should Don Cardi

Sicilian countryside. Young village girls pick flowers and sing. Unaware of
Michael, Fabrizzio and Calo watching them. One of the girls, Apollonia, is startled when she sees Michael. After an exchange of looks, Apollonia turns and walks away, saying something in Italian. -day

I've just finished the book, and I have mixed feelings
It held my attention and I thought some of the writing was excellent, Fredo's character was nailed down pat I thought. and I liked the new character of Geraci.
But everything to do with the Shea's made me z-z-z-z, the Francesca stuff could have been great if her father was talked off more often. Hopefully the new book will see Sonny's sons have a more hands on role. I was glad to see Kay disappear from the book fairly early though and also signs of Tony's estrangment
However, I thought Michael assasinating Tony Molinari was ridiculous, especially after he took Fredo in, Wiengardner backed up his reasons well, but it still didn't sit well.
Also having Geraci the mastermind behind Fredo's death was wrong, and ruins the illusion in GFII that its all Roth's idea.
Tessio's death was also wrong. That should have been left a mystery
No recollection of Al beating up Tommy in the first book
Gardner Shaw inexplicably being replaced by Billy Van Arsdale
Pentangeli getting the merest of vague references when his fued with the rosato's should have been highlighted.
Silly name additions - 'Chip' Corleone. 'Ozzie' Altobello.
Threatening the lineage of the screenplay in the movies by having Strachi and Cuneo live but referring to actual events in GFII after they've been theatrically killed.
Still, I've read a lot worse.
Sonny - Well then, business will have to suffer, all right? And listen, do me a favor, Tom. No more advice on how to patch things up, just help me win, please

Still, I've read a lot worse. Well in the orignal book Stracci(Is the correct spelling) and Cuneo did live so he stayed true to the orignal book with that except for the fact he included Marry who was not in the orignial book because Mike had two boys.

Hi
Yes,I know that, but then he refers to events in PtII that occurred in the world which Stracci and Cuneo were not alive in. Which is confusing. He is either sticking to the literary Puzo novel, or to the films, meshing the both together did not work for me.

rion, you're entitled to your opinion and if you didn't like Puzo's Godfather novel, then I don't think it's fitting for any of us to criticise you for it. One man's manna is another man's mud If you're a fan of the movies, then GF Returns is probably worth a read. However, you will probably feel the same about this particular adaptation as you did the original novel. I should imagine there would be a Balkan translation. Have you tried looking on the 'net or in your local bookstore?

Personally, I'm waiting for: Abbott and Costello Meet the GodfatherIt's only a matter of time. Actually, it might work if it were Frank Costello... Signor V.
"For me, there's only my wife..."
"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"
"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"
"It was a grass harp... And we listened."
"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"
"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

His name was Costello, not Castello. He was a famous Mob boss. Here are some articles: Crime Library - Frank Costello Signor V.

With all this talk about The Godfather Returns and The Godfather's Revenge, I hope they will follow up these sure to be smash hits with the following:
A New Godfather The Godfather Strikes Back Return of the Godfather A Phantom Godfather Attack of the Godfather Revenge of the Godfather
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
