Well it's almost Halloween and I thought I would ask everyone what the scariest movie is that they've ever seen. From my experience I've noticed that everyone has a different opinion about what is scary to them. One person might think Blair Witch Project was the scariest ever, but the next person will say "That wasn't scary at all!". So, let's try to keep this thread polite and respectful and tell me which movie scared YOU! List as many as you want, and feel free to explain why!

The movie that scared me the most was Event Horizon. I think the claustrophobic atmosphere mixed with the fact that there was no way to predict what was coming next really messed with my head while I was watching it!

I've been meaning to watch The Shining. It's one of those movies that is a classic that for some reason I haven't gotten around to watching.

In addition to The Shining with Jack Nicholson, I thought the Stephen King television series version was as good, if not better.

Scariest movie? Problem is that you see the movies a couple of times, they're nowhere near as scary, and it's hard to remember your initial reaction.

For me, I saw the Exorcist at a drive-in around 1980 when I was 16, and that chilled my blood. I still enjoy the movie.

Jason Miller, who played Father Karras, was from my hometown, was a friend of the family. That made it more interesting too.

My vote for the scariest movie ever goes to Murnau's original "Nosferatu" (1922). The oldest and still the pinnacle of eerie horror.

I have to agree about Event Horizon... That movie had some of the creepiest set designs I've ever seen in a Sci-Fi horror film. You couldn't predict anything about who was going to die or live!

I have to add The Thing as one of my favorite horror movies. That movie had some of the best morphing special effects I've ever seen.

I'd say Deep red (aka Profondo Rosso) by Dario Argento. Couldn't sleep for many nights after watching that movie.....The shining is a wonderful close second

The Exorcist (1973)
The Shining (1980)
Nosferatu (1922), this movie is just unbelievably scary for a 1922 movie
Psycho (1960)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) Anthony Hopkins, that cold eyes
Seven (1995)

Not classically "scary" but one that always chills me is "The Thing" (1951).

The fx (certainly by today's standards) are far from the best but its fast paced, well spoken dialogue is as good as any film out of Hollywood. Add to that the chilling score (by Dmitri Tiomkin) and the total feeling of isolation (near the North Pole) and you'll be glued to the screen watching this mirror of the Cold War theatrics.

IMO its an excellent Halloween event.

I would say "Halloween" from the horror flick genre and "The Exorcist" in general.

"The Exorcist" gets my vote too.

I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees!

For creepy-ness, I may need to go with Pet Semetary.

Friday the 13th still scares the bejeezus out of me...no matter how many times I watch it.

Some others:

The Exorcist
Halloween

The Thing (the original and the remake)
The Last House on the Left (quite possible the most horrifying film I've ever seen)

It's funny how I always forget about Seven when talking about scary movies, but you're right, that movie is definitely a good scary film!
