So white trash is a term used to describe 'Jerry Springer crossbreeding motherfuckers'? So anyone who's been on Jerry Springer and fucks someone in their family is white trash?

By that logic, Britney Spears can't be considered white trash.

What makes people call Britney white trash? Her southern accent?

Well, if you'd bothered to check the Urban Dictionary link, you'd see that she clearly falls under the appropriate guidelines.

Perhaps the better question, that I ask of you, is, what makes her exempt from her white trash definition?

Of course, but I won't judge someone having seen only minor fragments of their life. Through experience, I've come to learn that if you really get to know people, that most (if not all) are good at heart; we all want the same thing essentially. That's why I think hatred is such an underestimated emotion; very few of us truly "hate." We pretend to hate in order to feel normal, but those who have genuine feelings of hatred eventually act upon their emotions. Hitler, for instance.

It is society and social pressure that affects who we truly are. When the layers of obscurity are stripped away however, we are all the same.

Okay, after we get past all that philosophical crap ( ), let's get to the facts:

• First marriage was a speed-run Vegas style; divorced less than 24 hours later.
• Second marriage to a broken-down cracker with no money who thinks he's cool; pops out two kids, both of whom are now bastards and divorces hubby #2.
• Drinks and smokes while being pregnant with her children, as well as having numerous "Blanket" type moments like dropping her kid on the sidewalk or holding him on her lap while she's driving without a seatbelt, etc.
• Kissed Madonna. Gives me chills. Probably would give me a venereal disease.
• Wears t-shirts like "MILF-in-training".
• Pops her pregnant belly out 24-7 like she's the buddha.

What is WITH pregnant women and their need to show off that huge stomach?? I don't know how that became fashionable. I think I'm supposed to be ashamed of thinking that it's repulsive because this is natural and beautiful, blah, blah, blah... But puh-leeze!! Cover it up. I didn't want to look at my own when I was pregnant and I most assuredly do not want to see yours.

Outside of celebrities, I haven't actually seen this being done...is it popular in your neck of the woods, SB?

of course the woman is white trash -- if anybody else, for example some non-celebrity, acted in the same manner & fashion, they'd be labeled "white trash" right off the bat; but because britney is famous & loaded (in more ways than one), she deserves more leniency? please. if anything, the hammer should come down harder -- you're essentially paid to look good & give people something to talk about, the least you can do is adjust yourself to act properly in the public eye.

I was born and raised not too far from where Bratney Spears grew up.

Its questions like these whos awnsers will provide the gateway to a new enlightment in the 21st century. My doctor and I were discussing this just the other day after he called me white trash b/c I was wearing Levi's.

The same way it's anti-American (to some) to seak out against Bush.

I'm not sure if it is, though; my problem isn't with the connotations that come with it, but with the vague area such a term leads to.

That reminds me of the person who said that Martin Luther King was an intelligent black man, and the person couldn't see that this had prominent racist overtones. He wouldn't have said that Einstein was an intelligent white man. The obvious implication from the former statement is that black men are not usually intelligent.

Such is the presupposition of the term white trash. However, i believe the term white trash has been overused to dilute the racist implications. I believe its use is more classist and primarily used by the wealthier classes, old money in particular, to describe the poorer classes.

Anyway, on a humorous note, this reminds me when I first met my wife's Italian grandmother, who said I was a nice guy for an Irishman. We all had a laugh and my future father in law was trying to tell her in a pleasant,lighthearted way that it was kind of a backhanded compliment. She said, "Oh, I have nothing at all against the Irish. I always said Dr. O'Brien was one good Irishman." I told her that would make me the second.

Anyway, she died three months later and I was one of her pall bearers.

Reminds me of the classic line from 'Annie Hall' when Diane Keaton says outright yet quite innocently to Woody Allen:

"You're what Grammy Hall would call a real Jew."

As the story progressed, they fell in love, had a relationship, broke up, got back together and eventually broke up for good.

Calling them white doesn't work. Neither does trash since it's so generi. The function of the word white is to show the redneck quality. Black trash aren't rednecks.

If calling them white doesn't work, and calling them trash is generic, then why combine the two words? If you're going to use a word or phrase to generalize a specific group of people, couldn't you think of something a little less confusing?

"White trash" is clearly a derogatory term used against white people.

Saying "white trash" is discriminatory against non-white people is like punching someone in the face...then suing said person because you broke your hand.
