That was indeed a good one, DoN CoRLeOnE -- very well-worded. I cheated and looked at the GF1 script online. I knew a character said something to the effect of he couldn't afford to do something, but I had to jog my memory. wink

Here's mine:
When people interrupt his relaxation time, he sees red.

Was it Moe Greene? He was getting a back massage, and then he was shot in the eye.

No problem. Here's one to try:

His sudden and unexpected death contrasted with the stable life he had always led.

Thank you for the compliment, Mignon wink . The longer this game continues, the harder it's getting to be creative; but I think I still have a few good ones left in me cool . Try this one:

He wasn't a particularly sharp guy, and it left him with nothing.

I thought of Sollozo also, but her clue of not being very sharp threw me off. My thinking is that Sollozo WAS sharp with the knife.

Very good guesses from both of you, but neither is who I had in mind. I'll see how the next guesses go before I post a hint (but if you really need one, I'll oblige).

P.S. Thank you for the compliment, dontomasso wink . I'm just hoping I haven't left anyone banging his/her head in frustration trying to figure out one of my clues cool .

Fredo, despite his protestations to the contrary ("I'm smaht...") was called stupid early on by Michael, which, I guess, is the same as not being "sharp", and he was left with nothing ("Fredo, you're nothing to me now.....).

A very good guess, plawrence. In fact, I was surprised that the very first guess made wasn't Fredo. But, unfortunately, Fredo would be too obvious, so my clue applies to someone else wink .

Keep thinking ...

dontomasso, yes! It is Senator Geary. I was going to post a clue that said, "He declares out loud that he's not sharp (though not in those exact words); but despite this claim, he certainly gets his point across." But I see you didn't need the hint.

Geary tells Michael that he is "a blunt man" [blunt = not sharp]. After he bluntly insults Michael and issues his demands for the gaming license, Michael tells him, "Senator, my offer to you is this: nothing."

And, to add an additional meaning, it turns out that Geary wasn't so sharp (as in "smart") after all to have insulted Michael like that!

Now it's your turn dontomasso, if you're still online.

Thank You CW, and I only hope I can live up to your brilliant clues... here goes:

"While he is contemptuous of humanity, his metaphor might lead you to believe he is a creationist"

dontomasso, you flatter me blush . You also post pretty good clues yourself. I just hope plawrence, Don Cardi, Mignon, MM Tom Hagen, DoN CoRLeoNe (and many others, whose names escape me right now) post some more of their great clues to keep the creative juices of the game flowing.

Now, for my guess...

Don Lucchesi told Calo, "He who builds on the people builds on mud." (Sounds pretty misanthropic to me.) I don't know what his creationist metaphor is, though -- unless it's that same statement (since God created Adam out of the dust of the earth).

But anyway, my answer is Don Lucchesi.

Now here's a new one:

Wild Guess is Questadt because he made that chart of the Corleone family at which he required people to look.

Hyman Roth who diagnosed Moe Green as a "man of vision?"
